This place is pretty big and occupies quite a bit of land as you drive on Main Ave in Norwalk, and can't be missed. In the internal decor is cool, mostly wooden with ample seating. I did not enjoy their Misu Soup for some reason, felt it was too bland. Sushi was ok, but have had better sushi. I remember the customer service being good, but overall an average place. He said they had a few servers that drove negative reviews, but they are all gone now. I promised I'd write him a good review. I used to really like this place until tonight.. Long Story short I'm starting a new job next week, also my boyfriend and I both happen to not have cash on us and we're tight on money this week but still tried to go out and have a decent night. It was just towards the end for billing my boyfriend paid for the meal but didn't have money to tip and I mentioned to him I could get money from and atm directly next door at stop&shop. He paid signed the receipt... or so you thought. The parking lot was really dark and had no lights on and when we both went into our separate cars I was in the middle of putting my seatbelt on when A man came up to the drivers side of my car and it turned out to be our Server. I opened the door and asked if we forgot something inside and instead he waved the bill infront of me and said it needed the sign "for total" When my bf had already signed it. I told the server my bf had paid and already signed it but the server kept insisting he did not and when I came to my bf's car it turned out the server just was pressuring us to leave a tip immediately even if we didn't have cash on us. (He could have said this instead of walking out to my car asking for a completely opposite question of signing total*) Also the server and other host tried telling me that just wanted to make sure we were having a good experience. I'd have an amazing experience if you didn't follow me to my car in a completely dark parking lot pressuring me for tip money. That's not the way to treat customers and not the way to expect them to come back.(Also made me wonder if they've done that to any other customers before) I was a hostess at one point and if I ever did something like that I would get fired immediately. I'm someone of my word and if I say I'm gonna go to the atm to take out cash I mean it. Don't ever do that again. read more

We also paid $1 extra per roll to have brown rice but I think they decided to just give us brown instead because there was no sushi. I actually ordered food for the first time on Thursday 7/29/2022 and I hoping this would be my new spot for Chinese food. I was so disappointed in the quality and taste. I ordered pork fried rice which had no flavor and looked like burnt white rice. The chicken with vegetables was bland and also lacked any flavor. This is my go to Chinese or sushi spot. The menu has a good selection of items and both the Chinese style food and the sushi is good. We typically get take out our delivery and they have only ever messed up the order once. The seafood soup, young chow friedrice, and chicken with black bean sauce are some of my favorites. The sushi is good as are the curries. I also like the lemongrass shrimp. If you eat in the place is fine and service is very prompt. It's nothing fancy, but it's a solid consistent place. Occasionally the Chinese dishes are oily so order with light oil if you are worried about that. The sushi at Wild Rice is really the best in Norwalk. Here's why you shouldn't go to any of those overpriced SoNo places: 1.) The sashimi at WR is much thicker and fresher. And contrary to other reviews, the rice on the sushi and in the rolls has always been just fine - or rather, is exactly like Jae's in Boston and several other very pricey places in NYC at which I've eaten. 2.) the presentation is incredible. Sushi should be art that you eat, and WR always delivers. 3.) the staff is friendly, and although the waitstaff service can be spotty, the sushi bar guys are fun and make you feel very welcome. 4.) WR special rolls are inventive and very tasty!! I recommend the fat boy or the tuna lover! Or the Caribbean roll... That said, the food at Wild Rice won't blow your mind but it is decent. The prices are also fairly reasonable, especially for sushi in Connecticut. They have a variety of lunch specials, such as a bento box for 12 dollars. The equivalent in NYC would cost upwards of $20. Decent food and service. The food is pretty standard Chinese/Japanese. I was not entirely impressed with the sushi in the bento box, too much rice in my opinion, but my coworkers looked much better. I asked to have fried rice instead of white rice in the bento box and was told that I couldn't do that... I'm still not sure why. The chicken teriyaki was grilled chicken with teriyaki sauce on top, good but nothing to write home about. Crab rangoons were good, but I wish they were less dough and more cream cheese! Al dente rice. On sushi. How is this acceptable again? While we should not serve fish on porrige, the rice should not have a core of uncooked starches. Add to the total lack of vinegar on it and use of wasabi too-coarsely ground, and we have one bad sushi. To be fair, the pieces were fresh enough. I know I'm spoiled -- I have eaten in restaurants in Tokyo on someone else's dime -- but I have found restaurants that have done far better than "merely acceptable" on this continent too. This establishment is considered "Pan Asian." I frequently dine-in and take-out here. Service is good. Sushi is fresh and sushi presentations are impressive (Pictures posted below). It's a casual-attire type place and convenient as in, it's right off the Merritt Parkway and pretty centralized in the city of Norwalk. I'm not a sushi connoisseur, but I've had consistent good quality getting the Sushi For Us platter from Wild Rice, so I think that speaks well of their food overall with the variety of sushi that you get with the platter. We also love the Mom Sandwich specialty roll; makes us want to try one of the other specialties next time but we keep forgetting! The sushi is good, but, service is awful. You do not feel welcomed when you walk in. We were not greeted by one of the waitresses who just walked right by us. When the manager finally came over to seat us... No "Hi" or any sort of welcoming pleasantries. All he said was "Follow me"... Same type of service from our waitress. Delivered in the snow and ice last night to my hotel! Not only was it delivered in less than adequate weather conditions, but under 20 minutes and the food was really good. This is just an update for dining experience. Food is still solid 5 star. We finally got to eat at the restaurant instead of ordering delivery. The decor is cool wooden everything. Sushi bar is decent. My only problem with this place is it is boring. Really boring. No fun and no one talks. I've been to cemeteries that offer more fun. I was conversing with, who I could only imagine was the manager, and was about to start with my "this place is Awes---" when he just walked away. And let me tell you there wasn't one person in the place. So don't tell me you were busy. It was just me, the wife and a mom and daughter. That's it. Who walks away from their guest when they're trying to pay them a compliment? Crazy. Will this stop me from going back. Maybe. Will this stop me from ordering delivery? Heck no. But man o man. Learn to socialize with your patrons. Especially those that are former successful restaurant personalities such as myself. :o) You have one of the best Asian restaurants around. Was in the area and this place came highly recommended. I really like the atmosphere. The presentation of the food is really artistic and fun. I saw several glowing dishes, but forgot to inquire about them. The waiter brought over a small dish of sauerkraut and the traditional crispy noodles.The sauerkraut was homemade, tasty and unexpectedly sweet. We started off with Beef Negamaki and Chicken Satay. Although the beef was tougher and sweeter than expected, it was good and very plentiful. Maybe about 12 pieces, more than any other restaurant I've been to. The Satay was also sweeter than usual and the sauce had a nice chunky texture with perfectly cooked chicken-4 large pieces. We shared Sesame Chicken, also plentiful and nicely cooked, a bit on the sweet side with no heat. Perfectly breaded and crispy. I do have to have say that I did not fully enjoy the meal due to all the sweetness. Just too much sugar for my liking. The wait staff are very pleasant and brought overt the manager so that he could give me their recipe for the homemade sauerkraut. :-) I would go again. read more
