Avoid the thai tea at all costs. It's very watered down and I couldn't handle more than a few sips. The hibachi is good and the cook was friendly. The food overall was mediocre. We were looking for a decent Chinese restaurant and decided to give Wild Ginger a shot. It is an interesting mix of Japanese (hibachi and sushi), Chinese, and Thai. We went with mostly Chinese choices and found the quality of the food and the service very good. This is certainly 5 star quality for Cortland. read more

Wild ginger is absolutely disgusting. The service is slow. Me and my friends went in at a very quiet time and it took over an hour and a half to get our food. Our food then came out one by one, in 20 minute intervals. When we the last dish 2 hours later the steak was completely raw. It was basically bleeding, like I think I could feel it pulsating as if it were still alive. The staff was so rude about it. The woman was throwing our dishes at us. And when we told her our food was raw she started screaming at us. She then didn't say we will cook you a new one, or would you like something else but argued with us instead. Horrible place. I had sushi, which was well made, tasty, & fairly generous portions. The two kids with me had hibachi, which they said was delicious, but I was unimpressed with the service: they were unwilling to make any changes to the menu, and "I'd like to take the rest of this home" resulted in a styrofoam container being plunked in front of me unceremoniously. I went to WIld Ginger a few days after they opened for hibachi with a small group. The chef was very entertaining and the staff was efficient. Can anyone else find their menu online? I can't. They are very hard to understand over the phone. I ordered chicken teriyaki, a salmon avocado roll, and a spicy tuna roll. The sushi was delicious, as always. The chicken teriyaki sauce was thin and lacking flavor. It came with white rice but no vegetables. The chicken was on top of what looked like a whole sautéed onion. It was ridiculous how many onions there were, especially without the presence of other veggies. This was the worst sushi I've ever had. I ordered the spicy roll dinner, which purported spicy tuna, salmon, and crab rolls. I expected fresh sashimi in the rolls. Instead I received the classic hallmark of a struggling sushi restaurant. Leftover-who-knows-how-many-days-old-ground-unidentifiable-questionable-origins "sushi salad." The miso soup was bland and fishy with pea-sized elusive bits of tofu. my friend's teriyaki tofu came in large slabs with an indiscernible crust. The side of rice was sushi rice. The only redeeming factors were the broccoli that accompanied the tofu and the delightful ginger-laden dressing on the salad, which was nothing but iceberg lettuce with a singular cucumber. This place had amazing food! The atmosphere was really nice! We enjoyed watching the live hibachi. I ordered sushi and my love ordered the bento plate and we waited a very long time, but the manager came by with our server and gave us free ice cream for our wait! It was so considerate and we really appreciated the good service. The food was spectacular. The miso soup was a little salty for my personal taste. The service was really great about our drinks. I was really impressed with the menu! It was very extensive for every course, including drinks. The food was worth the wait, but only just barely! Outstanding sushimi. That's generally all I eat at such places. I dislike many of the other things they serve at such places, but I love good sushimi and theirs is excellent. My wife occasionally has sushi and more often has a mixed bag of modest-sized portions of a number of things to make up a meal and she pretty much always loves them. I've sampled a few on her recommendation and agree that they're quite good. Sometimes she'll find one she doesn't like but she always says it's just something that's not to her taste, not that it has poor ingredients or is poorly prepared. Service on the other hand, is pretty mixed. Occasionally quite reasonable but sometimes rather poor and once or twice has been really poor. We've been going there several times a year since they opened and keep going back because the food is so good. The decor is ok, prices are reasonable for what you get and the place is rarely crowded so no problem getting seats. I recommend against sitting near the front door in the winter. They have a double door system but it still lets in one heck of an arctic blast in really cold weather. We've never tried the hibachi grill so can't comment on that. read more

Wanted asian food for dinner so this is the spot. I did the hibachi. The chef had skills!! I got the 2 sauces first. The chef put on an insane show with his skills with hibachi. The space was spread out. Had a regular dining area, bar, sushi bar and 2 hibachi grills. The fried rice was a bit too salty because he put too much sauce. The show started with the chef cooking the fried rice. The fried rice from the hibachi grill tasted a 7.5 out of 10. Veggies tastes a score of a 7 out of 10. I even had the filet mignon. Best asian food in Cortland. Thai Basil and Thai Ginger are fabulous, as are the curries (I've tried green and panang). Pad Thai is good, not spectacular. Pad See Eew is sub-par. Pad See Eew is my favorite Thai dish and so far Taste of Thai does it best, but otherwise Wild Ginger scores pretty high, Thai Basil is much better here. We have started to try their Chinese dishes and so far I think their Gen Tso Tofu is best in town. Tremendous variety of sushi. I hear it's good but I'm not much for sushi so no opinion on that (other than it's great to have the option). read more

I had lunch here last week and while the hostess didn't seem to know what her job was (to be friendly and welcoming) the TNT roll I had was great. The atmosphere was nice and on the quiet side which was perfect. We are from Long Island and have had our share of really good hibachi places. We ate here in early September, 2016 after moving our son in to college. The chicken hibachi was "ok"... not great but not too bad...service was good. What turned me off though was that after eating and waiting for our check I saw a big black bug (looked like a roach) scampering down the aisle. A waitress saw it and stepped on it quickly and literally dragged it under her foot to an area out of view to the patrons. I literally felt sick to my stomach. I am a frequent visitor in Cortland and i do not miss going to this place ever since it opened. It has the perfect atmosphere, great great sushi, a full bar, hibachi and overall great environment. Its usually crowded in the evening so im assuming its one of the most popular new places out here. I definitely recommend it to everyone. Its a must go place. There really aren't a lot of decent food options here in Cortland, and Wild Ginger is one of the only places that my boyfriend and I keep coming back to. I've had good experiences dining in and picking up. They're always timely, friendly, and the food is decent. If you need a sushi fix, this will do the job. Second visit and will not return. Visited 3/11 and decorations and balloons were still up from Valentines day. Went on a Friday night- lights were full blast and music was so loud as if we were at a club. Our waitress was miserable. She made us feel like we were bothering her to even place an order. She never smiled (unlike another waitress at the other tables). Food was expensive and not as described. Poor experience for date night. read more
