a plate of sushi and a plate of vegetables
    Rebecca H.

We are in this part of the world for the first time for work and just starting dipping our toe in the Cortland food scene pond. We sampled its Mexican offerings last night and GF chose this place to bring us up to speed on some of their Asian food offerings. When they say fusion, they aren't kidding. My decision was pretty much locked down after I saw "tofu hibachi" on the second page but with each new thing GF brought to my attention (teriyaki, sushi, sushi entrees, bento box, poke, the list goes on and on) I was like, "they have THAT?" It really is quite impressive but one does start to wonder how well you can do anything if you do everything. Our on-location work put us through probably the most intense pre-employment physical I have ever endured in my life which unfortunately included a step on the scale and there should be laws against that kind of shit after the holidays. Anyways, it is probably obvious why we avoided some of our typical orders like spring rolls or gyoza and I didn't even allow the thought to come close enough to my consciousness to clock whether or not they have vegetarian offerings. They DO offer a bunch of vegetarian sushi including a special roll which I don't know that I have ever seen before. I wanted to keep it on the lighter side so ordered an avocado cucumber roll as a side which was priced at the very reasonable $6. The rolls were very standard, nothing to write home about but nothing that skeeved me out like some other sushi I have be subjected to. You may remember that I had my mind set on the tofu hibachi which comes with a soup AND a salad. The soup was a mushroom/onion soup and two of the things I hate most in this world are onions and mushrooms so I swapped out with GF's miso soup. I believe the soup came with her sushi and sashimi combo entree. The salad I was served was about the size of a cracker but was fresh enough with a few shavings of carrot and included that wonderful ginger dressing you have probably come to expect from an Asian restaurant. The hibachi came out piping hot, I literally burned my mouth on the tofu due to lack of patience despite waiting a good minute or so. The flavor was pretty good and it wasn't overly fried. The vegetables also were decent but could have been more plentiful. They absolutely loaded the rice onto the plate and I would have been thrilled to see this Himalayan pile of rice if it wasn't so full of onions for reasons mentioned above. The service was good and everything came out very quickly. We were in and out in probably 40 minutes or less. This wasn't mind blowing but got the job done.

    Beautiful creation!

Great food and good service! Sushi is an art, and these guys nailed it. Perfect place for lunch! Fast, friendly and great lunch prices! My brother and I left with full stomachs and a great sushi experience, spending less than $50 for both! Do not drive by... put that thing in park and get inside!!!

Some of the best food that we've had since we moved into town & without a doubt the best fried rice in cortland/homer.

Not my favorite type of food but my family loves it so I willingly join them. Fun for kiddos and sometimes even a bit scary...good show.

I just finished my meal after ordering take-out. I had such a pleasant experience, from ordering…read moreover the phone (Matt P is a gem) to picking it up, just great. We ordered the karrage, crispy rice w/ spicy tuna, wagyu maki, yubi, HanHan, and the miso cod roll. Everything was fantastic. The karrage is a must get and we will order it again the next time we go. It's crispy and rather light for being fried. The same goes for the Crispy Rice w/ spicy tuna. These are two great appetizers. As for the rolls, everything was great. The fish tasted fresh and flavorful. I have nothing but good things to say about any of the rolls that we ordered. I can't wait to go back for their omekase experience. Overall, very happy with today's lunch. I would recommend it, especially if in Skan. It's away from the main road and has its own parking (big plus). The interior, while small, it's pretty nice. I would definitely want a seat at the sushi bar when I return. Again, great experience and I'd recommend visiting.

My husband got a Sapporo Black and I had the house iced tea.... beautifully flavored with mint and yuzu.We started with shrimp toast, not the traditional deep fried kind....but a lovely, lightly toasted piece of bread with chopped shrimp, whole grain Dijon mustard, sundried tomato and capers. It was a small but delicious bite. The next course we had Asian Caesar salad - grilled romaine with sesame dressing and toasted panko. It was crispy with a smokey flavor that was very good with the sesame dressing...the panko giving that extra little crunch. I especially loved the Fluke served in a fennel butter sauce with fried capers. I had three pieces of Nigiri as an add-on. Salmon, Striped Jack and Waygu. Incredible taste on all the pieces. The fluke was perfectly cooked, a little crispness, soft and flaky and the butter sauce and capers went so well with the fish. For dessert we had black sesame cheesecake with vanilla ice cream and sweet potato underneath. It sounds odd, but I really enjoyed it because of the subtle flavors that blended so well and it wasn't super sweet. The service from Navi was excellent from beginning to end. From taking our order to refilling water, checking if everything was good and answering my questions about different items. I'm looking forward to my next visit to try some items off the menu.

I had such a fun experience at Sakana-Ya!…read more A couple of things to know before you go: if you visit during business hours, you'll likely need to pay for parking. There is a parking lot nearby as well as some street parking, but it's something to keep in mind before your visit. I believe they offer an all-you-can-eat special for around $27.99 on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and on Tuesdays and Thursdays many menu items are half off. I visited on a Thursday and took full advantage of the half-off specials. I arrived about 40 minutes before closing, and as other guests left, I ended up being the only person in the restaurant. Honestly, it made for a great experience. The music was a fun mix of house music and R&B, and I found myself dancing in my seat while enjoying my meal. The staff was attentive without being overbearing. They checked on me when needed but also gave me space to relax and enjoy my food. The cook also came over and talked with me for a while and made some suggestions on what he thought I would like. Amazing ! Because everything was half off, my eyes were definitely bigger than my stomach! I ordered several different items and was completely full by my second plate. Most dishes come as small plates with two to four pieces, making it easy to try a variety of items. One of the coolest parts of the experience was the conveyor belt system. Once your food is prepared, it's sent down the conveyor belt to your seat. Since I was the only customer there, it was easy to know which dishes were mine. I'd be interested to see how it works during busier hours. I honestly can't remember everything I ordered, but I enjoyed almost all of it. My least favorite item was the sweet potato roll--it wasn't bad, just not my personal favorite. Everything else was fresh, flavorful, and worth trying. Overall, I had a really good time and will definitely be back, especially on a half-off day. Great food, great music, and a fun dining experience.
