If you're looking for local/organic/speciality diet food options this is your place. The menu is unique & ever changing. It has a very Asheville/San Francisco/greenwich Village type feel... employees seem very earthy/open minded type. The menu features a lot of unique dishes that you wouldn't find anywhere else. Strangely it's super adorable ($5-$7 wine options, entrees around $11-$13) and very decent considering all the local organic options. That said, it's not all the way there, sometimes they run out of options, or options are really close to amazing but just miss the mark, but are still very tasty. All said, it's worth checking out, it has a very cool local feel, and I would highly recommend eating outside- it has a nice view. read more

We don't make it to Boone very often, but whenever we do we try to find new restaurants of note. I had noticed Hob Nob a few times and had always seen a line on busy days, a packed patio/deck, and tons of folks looking like they were having a good time. It goes to show. Hob Nob is definitely awesome and we had a wonderful meal. Drove through Boone on a Sunday and showed up a bit early. These guys are open for breakfast, but we wanted to wait until lunch. Parking is a little bit of an issue, but you can usually find some street-side parking on the weekends. NOTE: It really is CASH ONLY. There's an ATM at the entrance that only has a $.50 transaction fee. Highly recommend having cash on hand before you go. There is plenty of seating inside and out on the deck. We decided to sit outside. Our server was a bright, shining young lady who was full of humor. We enjoyed chatting with her very much. We started with the chipotle queso dip. It was bangin'. Smoky and a little runny. I hate queso that has the characteristics of glue. This was far from that. We devoured it all. These guys do some pretty awesome things with tempeh. Reminded us both of a few places we ate at in Asheville. I ordered the Tempeh Gouda Tacos. Two tacos, packed with gouda, avocado, other veg, and plenty of crispy tempeh. Loved the balance of flavors. My wife ordered the Divinewich -- portabellos, tofu, a slammin' aioli, and homemade bread. We split each entree and were total happy campers. For a veggie-friendly meal, we were both overtly pleased. My family found this gem by happy accident and we couldn't be happier we did! My mother is a vegetarian and they had an abundance of options for her to choose from, as well as amazing choices for the rest of the group. Had a good breakfast here when it was called Tupelo's World Cafe. Came back through when traveling and they changed the name to Hob Nob. I had the Huevos Rancheros and my gf had the egg sandwich. First of all the Huevos were just beans and scrambled eggs over deep friend tortillas with about a lb. of cheese. No cilantro, no lime, no salsa...nothing mexicano about it... total gringo piss. Absolute garbage. Think it was 10 bucks too. For ten bucks I want habaneros, cumin, cilantro, pepper jack...shit I want a Margarita with that. She had the egg sandwich. This thing has about a 1/4 cup of mayo based red pepper aioli mixed in it. She was so depressed that someone put mayo on scrambled eggs that she didn't talk for 2 hrs after we ate. Enter dark period. This place ruined my day. We'd been Hob Nobbed. Mayonaise on eggs??? That is F*'n gross. Not sure how the rest of the menu is but seriously, get the egg sandwich if you want to puke. read more

Had a ton of suggestions via FB, but our ATT phones couldn't pick it up - total signal fail. I supposed if you are a vegetarian, this place is ok, but we are not. We should have left before ordering. Instead, we opted for the 'carolina yardbird'. Described this way: Mashed potatoes topped w/ sautéed chicken breast & rosemary mushroom gravy w/ steamed broccoli, yellow corn & carrots. Served with cheese biscuits So, being from Atlanta, this is what I was expecting. A lovely chicken breast with a fragrant gravy and these 'farm' fresh veggies. What we received was diced chicken breast in a grey gravy with canned corn, old carrots that were barely warm and frozen biscuits cut in half with some shredded cheese on top. I don't eat broccoli, but the hubs does and he said it wasn't good. This place has fantastic reviews everywhere. So if you are so inclined to not want meat and potatoes, maybe you'll love it. I almost came to App State for grad school. I purposely stopped here on a fall foliage drive to see what I missed. After walking around downtown Boone on game day, landing at the Hob Nob Farm for lunch, and commingling with the conglomerate of Southerners and transplant hippies, I am convinced I made the wrong choice in not coming here. Okay, enough about life choices. The food was awesome. I had the Tamales de Bayamo, a house made tamale filled with spinach, squash, yams, garlic, corn and peppers. It's served with tamale sauce, black beans, plantains, chipotle Queso, green olives, and romas. And they have this coffee molasses slow roasted pork that is amazing. Not good. Went here a couple months ago and was disappointed. Wanted to try something new but never again. Ordered a venison burger with lentils and it was upsetting. Hob Nob is absolutely one of my favorite restaurants in Boone. I have to admit the first time I ate here I felt that the menu was a little scattered with dishes inspired from several cuisines and countries, but once I considered what they are trying to do, it makes more sense. They try to grow as much of their food as they can on a farm just outside of town toward TN, so the dishes are often built around what can be offered locally. I love that, it's absolutely awesome to try to eat sustainably. I agree with some other reviews that if you do not like to eat a little adventurously, this may not be for you, but as for me, Hob Nob always offers me something I've never tried before. I always get something new when I go in, and being a local, this is often. I have yet to be disappointed by a dish. I feel like eating here is more than a delicious treat, it's a bit of a social statement too. By choosing this place, I know I'm also supporting the idea that individual food choices can change global food issues. That's good for my belly and my conscience. Note: Parking at the restaurant itself is incredibly limited, but if you are parked downtown Boone, it is easy to get to. read more

It is now the Hob Nob Farm Cafe. All the food is locally and regionally grown and is as fresh as food can get. If you're in to plain foods, then this may not be the right place. Their foods are full of flavor and nothing is bad. Hob Nob has a small kitchen, so plan to wait for a bit to be seated and for your food. Just be patient because it's worth it in the end. **If you have small children, there are toys in the back to keep them occupied. They have more vegetarian and vegan options than most restaurants, and the quality of the food never disappoints! Our dog loves hanging out on their outdoor patio and so do we! The wait staff is awesome! It's always a huge pleasure to be seated in Allen's section. He remembers our culinary tastes and is quick to make recommendations. And he's just a fun guy to chat with! I hate to give a bad review because as a vegetarian, I want to support any establishment that serves mostly vegetarian and fresh food. I really want to like this place. First and foremost, the food tasted delicious. This is why I added a star. I did like the Bloody Mary I ordered and the tempeh Gouda tacos. Portion sizes were small for the prices though. The server was nice and the problems were not all his fault. But that's where all the positivity ended. We came in to get a quick bite to eat before camping. The "quick bite" turned into a 45 minute wait for food that was not prepared properly. Waiter spilled water on the table and didn't clean it up. Not a huge deal but it did leave our napkins and the bottom of the to-go boxes soggy. My friend ordered a sweet tea. It never came. When the bill came out, he was still charged for it. They took that off the bill after we told them. As I started to delve into my tacos I found a BIG hair underneath one of them. Now I get it if a small hair falls in but this was inexcusable as it was UNDER the food. I don't see how anyone could have missed it. My appetite was ruined after that but since this was the only meal I had all day I asked them to send out the tacos again. Because of this the waiter stated that he would not offer a discount. I have worked in food service before and I understand that not every complaint merits a discount but really...,after finding a hair?! And then waiting again for it to be remade?! Fresh Food -- Local Ingredients -- Fantastic Staff My girlfriend and I were in search of a place for brunch/lunch on our last day while visiting in Boone and we were over the typical sandwich shops that you find everywhere. We wanted a fresh meal and we had just finished a run around campus so getting a good authentic meal with fantastic veggies was right up our alley. After a quick search on Yelp, we came across Hob Nob Farm Cafe. The thing that stood out the most upon reading other reviews was: 1. They only take cash or check (weird right? but wait...) 2. Everything on their menu is catered towards vegan, vegetarians, or gluten free! The staff was amazing. They were very conscience of the possible food allergies (I am gluten free) and were very sensitive yet serious about ensuring that what we were getting was of quality. We sat out on the covered porch and the first thing you'll notice on the menu is a disclaimer how they are cash/check only but it's a small "price" to pay to ensure that local vendors and farms get the most bang for their buck! It might feel dated and an inconvenience for patrons to only use cash or a check since in this day of technology, practically everywhere takes plastic -- it was a good reminder as to why they are doing it. Don't worry about running to an ATM before you go or surcharges -- they have an ATM right as you walk into the restaurant and the surcharge is .50 cents! My girlfriend and I knew they were only cash and ran to a random ATM and paid $3.00 and wanted to punch ourselves in the face when we realized that it was only .50 cents there at the restaurant! For food - I ordered the Garam Masala Yellow Curry as a recommendation from our waitress and it was full of the most wonderful fresh vegetables. I don't necessarily make my food incredibly spicy and the waitress warned me that the curry is a bit spicy and grows on you but it was nothing I couldn't handle. It was perfect in fact! My girlfriend ordered the Topsail Tofu and I had a bite of hers and it was incredible! Everything was so vibrant and colorful and the freshness most definitely was apparent! I had biscuits and gravy with scrambled eggs & sausage which was fresh and just a little bit spicy, simply perfect. The waitress was very friendly and helpful. When the bill came, I was shocked to see how cheap everything was. This is a spectacular restaurant; we will be back. One weird thing: they have some sort of moral stance against credit cards, so bring cash. read more

I wish this was closer to where I live. I tend to like menus that are simpler because I have such difficulty deciding, but here it doesn't even matter what you order because it will be fantastic. I like that the menu itself is set up by region so that you can know what type of food you're looking for and go there first, but I ended up jumping around so many times that I lost count. Let's start by saying that the tamales are to die for. If there's one on special, it's probably worth it. Another Hispanic dish featured the tempeh, which is the best protein I have ever eaten in my life. Get some form of it for sure. The grilled cheese was kind of outrageous in its richness, but who cares when it's that good? The Asian noodle bowl was quite good as well, but compared with everything else, it was less satisfying, especially since it was much too dense to enjoy thoroughly. The curry bowl was very flavorful, but you really should save your curry hankerings for an Indian restaurant and branch out here to something unknown, a 'health' food you've never tried (such as tempeh...is there a theme here?), perhaps.] Definitely no room for dessert. Fantastic food! My husband and I spent our honeymoon in the area and found this local restaurant and decided to try it. We were both very impressed with all of the dishes and healthy, delicious selections. I had the PB&J shake to start which was tasty, fresh and satisfied my sweet tooth without having a sugar overkill. The only thing better than the food is the attitude of the staff. Funny, charming, and personable people take care of you round the clock in an amiable, unhurried atmosphere at a relaxed pace that leaves plenty of time to socialize with your companions. That being said, the food is absolutely divine. The noise that came out of my mouth when I took my first bite of the Habana plate was obscene. The flourless chocolate torte was the perfect portion and made the perfect finish to dinner. The Bee Sneeze cocktail became my favorite cocktail with the first sip. We were told 15 to 20 minutes and were then shocked to see the party of six seated before us at a table clearly designed for four people. Regardless, they have something for everyone.. - They have something for everyone, whether you eat meat, no meat, vegan, pescatarian... etc - Service wasn't perfect, but isn't worth complaining about at all. Regardless, whatever they missed on timeliness they more than made up for with friendliness. The place was HOPPING when we got there, busy busy. Still they found a table for us in no time. Responsive. - The food was delicious (obviously), and accurately marked. For those of you who have read the great Taco Mac review of 2011, you know that when a restaurant advertises a dish as spicy, and it isn't remotely spicy, little blood-vessels in my eyes burst one by one.. This place indicated the Kaeng Daeng with tofu would spicy (categorized under "Thai") and guess what, it actually had a bit of heat to it, and good heat, not gratuitous throw capsaicin at 'em and run away heat. - The decor, both in and out, was fitting.. - Good, nay, GREAT music playing, if you like a steady mixture of my favorite genres blues/jazz/funk/jam/bluegrass/scat/chamber music -Location, easy to find, right on King, it's the place that looks like a barn with a big deck. Things that weren't perfect.. -It was hot, and either there is no AC or it wasn't working.. spicy food to the rescue -They were busy, so service was a bit slow at times, but still friendly and accommodating.. -Wine was well above proper serving temperature, also probably due to the ambient temp of the restaurant, but I would solve this issue I recommend it, literally everything was delicious, bring cash. read more

We were in the area visiting our LutherRock camp counselor son and he brought us here. As soon as we saw 'No Credit Cards' and the reason why, we knew we would like this place...expectations were already set. The menu is very strange, with food combinations all over the map. But it works! We all started with the Tomato Gouda soup and right then we all knew why this place was packed. We ordered a couple of the Cuban meals (Habana, Varadero) and the curry. Flavors are unbelievable, the combinations of veggies and everything just works. We're working on our diet choices and right now minimizing white rice. They happily substituted quinoa which was a first for my wife. Beer selection was ok, I did expect a few more 'local' brews, but sometimes choice can be too much anyway. Note: If you eat outside the tables don't have solid surfaces. So if you're wearing white shorts and drip yellow curry on them...oops. And if you add water to get rid of the curry...it turns RED! hahaha Hopefully Spray-n-wash will do it's wonders. read more

What a delectable food establishment!! Unfamiliar with Boone, we browsed the down town area on a Sunday morning until be came across this lovely place. We initially were going to try Melanie's (just down the street) but it was PACKED and a long wait. So we kept walking and found Hob Nob. We were seated instantly, and were immediately served by an incredibly friendly and cheerful waitress. I ordered Granny's Breakfast Sandwich, and it was SO GOOD. It tasted very fresh, and was served on think, doughy, homemade wheat bread. This was a truly great restaurant in a quaint, stunningly beautiful part of North Carolina. p.s. Also, they are very inaccurate with orders - ordered Kale Salad with peanuts on a side, peanuts were right on the salad. Shepard's pie with no gravy - dish was soaked in gravy.
