They are both so sweet and smart, & the cockatiel is my soulmate. He's also a talker, and prolific musical composer. He's a GENIUS. Our conure is also a cool chap; he's my son's bird. The reason these birds are so great? The wonderful ladies and gentlemen of The Bird Shoppe A lot of places will tell you "Of course we hand-feed our birds!" and "Of course you can come in and see them whenever you want!" and "Of course we don't overbreed to the point where you'll be receiving an unhealthy Hapsburg parrot!"--but they're not being truthful with you. But here, it is true. All the ladies of T.B.S. are saints, Anne, Beth, Paula, absolutely everyone. They are so full of knowledge & suggestions. I spent a summer pestering them with questions, & they always helped. And Joe and his birds are legendary. Try to meet Elvis or Hannibal--absolutely hilarious. They have a ton of food in stock, and toys, perches, and sometimes cages for sale as well. Even if you've no plans to adopt a bird from them, but have a bird of your own, you should definitely visit. They have a broader variety of a smaller ranger of items than you'll find at Jungle Jim's. So it depends on what you're looking for, I guess. The service is pretty good. You can tell, even if they aren't crazy about Customer Service, that the people working there love the animals. They're a little pricier than other places. Overall, it's a good option if you're in the area and are in a pinch. But I'll probably look elsewhere next time.

Milford's Wild About Birds, the "largest independent wild bird shop in the Cincinnati area," is my frame of reference with regards to wild bird shops, and while I liked the Milford store, I thought Wild Birds Unlimited was even better. Wild About Birds in Milford is a much larger store, but I think Montgomery's Wild Birds Unlimited has a nice shop in a great, convenient location, and they are actually doubling in size when they remodel and expand into the space next door (formally occupied by Turnstyles). Like any store dedicated to feeding and welcoming wild birds into your yard, Wilds Birds Unlimited has a variety of birdfeeders and birdhouses designed for different types and species of birds, while they also have many birdbaths as well. Like their counterparts in Milford, they too have squirrel-proof bird feeders, and also the actual squirrel feeders. Although the sign in the window reads, "Your Backyard Feeding Specialist," one of things I really liked about Wild Birds Unlimited is that they have a lot for your front yard too. Even though they specialize in bird feeders and other bird feeding products like suet and seeds, they have plenty of high quality products for a beautiful front yard too. They offer mailboxes in small, medium, and large sizes ($79.95-$119.95) and address plaques too, I saw many owl and frog-shaped rocks, they sell Tilley-brand hats, and there are UC and Ohio State-themed lawn gnomes, as well as an array of large house flags and small yard flags. They have a large focus on bird feeding, all the while having its unique approach to the bird business. While Wild Birds Unlimited has two other Cincinnati locations and many others across the country (mostly east of the Mississippi), the owners of the Montgomery location give their store local flair, especially online. Brett Gilmore shares his passion by posting photos and stories to the website about what he sees in his backyard at home. On July 1st alone, Brett saw 26 different types of birds. Overall, this Montgomery business is nice and has a lot of high quality, good looking products.

They have fish for all levels of fishkeepers, but we're beginners, so we stick with the smaller community fish for now. We purchased a lot of beautiful rainbows, swords, hatchets, corys, and tetras here and months later, they're all doing great in our tank. A&E seems to get new shipments every Thursday/Friday. If you're looking for a particular fish, call them on Wednesday to see if they have it in stock or will be getting it in that week's shipment. The interior of the shop is not pretty. A&E is definitely focused on caring for their fish and their customers, not keeping the front of the shop aesthetically pleasing. So don't walk through the front door and leave without checking the tanks. The beautiful fish keep us coming back. FYI: On my last trip here I learned that A&E will draw a big X across the front of tanks that have a sick fish inside. Fish in tanks with the X are not for sale. I was glad to know they care so much about caring for the fish as well as not selling sick fish to customers and spreading illness to other tanks. There's a shark tank in the back with 3 sharks and a huge grouper. My 18 month old isn't very interested in the sharks but she loves watching that grouper. There is parking behind the shop.

The receipt does NOT state this, the items we brought back in were unopened, we had our receipt and it was the same day.. Did a 2 hours and 20 min round trip twice for.. nothing. Given how far this place is, we did not plan to go back really.. so a credit is absolutely useless to us. PLEASE tell people your policy BEFORE they leave, or put it on the receipt. Especially if they spend a huge amount ($300 from us that day...) and are unsure if they need the item(s) youre suggesting them to get.. Otherwise, your shop is wonderful as is your staff.
