I will recommend this forever. They are fully nonprofit. All donations go to animals- when I was there 2 were adopted in an hour. They have Nic nacks, clothes like any thrift store but, go further back and there is so much for your pet collars, harness.. TONS of clothes to keep them warm, so much more.. I filled out an application for an 8wk old puppy, I was vetted and approved, they gave me a pick up date and time, and then 24hrs before pick-up they sent me an email saying the foster family had decided to keep him and I would no longer be picking him up. Their website clearly states that they have no adoption foster program, none, but they still let the fosters swoop in and keep your babies after they've offered them to you and you've fallen in love. I just recently lost my senior doggo, and not this feels like a whole new loss. I'm devastated, and now they're back peddling and saying that we aren't a good fit even though the email I received clearly says that they just didn't want to give him up which is totally against policy. Price gouging on donated items! Beware. I have been a huge fan of this store and their mission until today. They had a donated metal bird cage in the front of the store. We have this identical cage at home and I needed a second one so I could watch both of my daughter's birds. I bought the cage new for $99 on Amazon only it was of better quality. It came with a top gym, stainless steel bowls and seed guard. The one at the store had not been cleaned, had no seed guard or gym, and a broken lock on the front, the wheels were also not in great shape. I was thinking, $40-60. She said to me she wanted $125 for it and then proceeded to write $140 on it. I was shocked! I said did you price this? She said "I have been doing this for 29 years and I know what it is worth, someone will buy it for $140!" She then rudely stormed off and told me I was wasting her time! OMG! Terrible terrible attitude to a customer who has been such an advocate and donated to them. Remember, your store is there to help animals, price gouging your customers is despicable. If you are going to resell donated items for outrageous prices, at least clean and display the items to deceive people into thinking it is worth it. On the other hand they have two brand new Guinea pig cages from pet smart in the boxes (worth $90) for $25 each so... tell me how your 29 years of experience came up with that logic? read more

Wonderful business with kind, helpful and passionate staff. None of those people get paid to volunteer... they all do it because they care. Selection is huge and constantly changing. Cashiers even offer bundles for items sometimes and wonderful deals on all holidays. read more

I love Peppermint Pig. There are some really cool things in here. The coolest are the puppies and kitties! As well as a thrift store this is a pet rescue. The staff is so nice. You can help them save animals by linking your kroger rewards card to their store. When you do this. Kroger gives you your points and matches your points in money to the charity. We have never been to the Peppermint Pig even though I have passed it a hundred times or more. However, I read an article about them on my local news app and was surprised to hear that they are a non-profit thrift shop, 100%-ran by volunteers, TO BENEFIT ANIMALS! WHAT! So at the very least I wanted to drop off some items and a check donation. Donations are tax-deductible, as PP is a 501(c)(3) organization. We came by just planning to drop off our items - but then my kiddo and I wanted to look around and thrift, especially because the store actually has free-range foster cats! Seriously, just adoptable, foster-resident kitties roaming around. I am a crazy cat lady, so I am IN LOVE with this concept. I kept chasing the cats around trying to pet them (cats are such snotty little poop-heads though, they come and go and do as they please). My daughter found some jewelry and tops that she wanted (they were dirt cheap). But I feel like I seriously hit the lottery with my thrifting finds: a complete crystal punch bowl set with 12 matching cups and a ladle, for $30! Also, I am slowly but surely trying to build up a complete collection of vintage Pfaltzgraff dishware with blue flowers, in the oatmeal color. I want this exact kind of dishware because it is what my late grandmother had. However, I found 12 coffee cups with saucers, a butter dish, creamer, tea pot and sugar bowl FOR $15! I was so excited by this, especially when I painfully remembered that I had bought the one butter dish a year ago off of Etsy - for $40 :( Is the store beautiful and shiny and spotless and smelling like money and dreams? Uh, no, it's a thrift shop. Are there cats residing in the shop and cats/dogs are welcome in the store? YES, it's a non-profit org to benefit animals! Also, of course you will need to thoroughly wash anything that you buy from here, the items are all donated. So seriously, ignore the negative reviews of PP, this place is a little gem (and trust me, I'm a germaphobe. Just go home and wash any 'ish you buy). And I really liked the volunteer staff, they were so friendly and nice. We will DEFINITELY be back to donate and thrift (and to pet the kitties!). read more

Dreadful communication, professionalism, & customer service. For the adoption side- never received an email confirmation that my application went through- so tried to email. Got a quick response that they are going through them. Checked in again a few days later- no response. Cool- drove up there today during "meet & greet" & was told the pet had already got a home. Cool- very happy for that family. No problem. Wrote them again (while in the parking lot trying to console my crying children), asking if they could consider revising their policy of zero correspondence for non-selected applicants- received a lengthy email with a plethora of screenshots of how, basically, I should have read better. So interesting they took the time to "show me the errors of my ways" in a pretty intense email, but couldn't just send out an email blast to all applicants that dog was no longer available. On top of that, she wrote a pretty passive aggressive: " We'll be sure to let our friends at other rescues and the local shelters know that you're still searching for a new furry friend." at the end... am I being rescue dog "black-balled?!?" I know people who have a dog from there - no fence. They pick and choose based on their preference, not based on good people. read more

I have been a fan of Peppermint Pig's rescue work for quite some time. They truly go above and beyond and put dogs through any necessary medical or behavioral training, which takes a lot of time and money! A few weeks ago, I went to the new store for the first time and was so impressed. I left with great deals for the fur kids and myself! They have clothing, art, home goods, pet supplies, you name it! The shop is great and the volunteers are all so genuine and kind, and all proceeds go to their amazing cause! It's a win all the way around. read more

To anyone complaining about the animals in the store, there are clear signs on the front door that say animals are welcome. I can't imagine disliking the fact that there are animals in a store that all legitimately need homes. Yesterday I adopted a wonderful little kitten from Peppermint Pig. All of their animals come neutered/spayed and vetted. If the animal you adopt is young, you bring the animal back free of charge to get its next shots. After having such a wonderful experience with Peppermint Pig I returned today to actually do a little shopping. I found a lot of kickknacks that were priced fairly and I also found a Dachshund that needed a home. I ended up adopting him and he is a great little dog. The people here do the best that they possibly can and they really love their animals. Their adoption fees are very reasonable and they are completely honest with you about the animals. Overall, I would suggest this store/shelter to anyone who is looking for a new companion or maybe some little treasures. I will definitely be back there. read more

It's called Peppermint Pig Thrift & Gift, but I can only see the thrift in this Anderson Township store. I can't imagine anyone buying gifts from here, unless you like giving out $3 pairs of shoes, $3 purses, CDs for two or three bucks, or eight inch televisions for $10. Hey, the prices are good, but the place is more of a garage sale than a gift shop. Other than that, however, the store is kind of neat, and here's why: the store is run strictly by volunteers and all proceeds from sales at the Peppermint Pig go "towards animal care and the purchase of a brick and mortar facility for the Safe Haven Animal Sanctuary." There are a ton of great deals although most of the items are really cheap and nothing special. There is a lot of clothing that sells for no more than $6.99, there is some jewelry, old baseball hats, 50-cent greeting cards (not the rapper), candles, lots of random animal items and other knick knacks, a small collection of old baseball hats, some lamp shades, really cheap books, audio tapes, and videos (mostly VHS), and just lots of junk. I even saw a George Foreman Grill selling for $4 and my favorite item was a $75 green refrigerator that looks like it was taken from the set of That 70s Show. On the whole Peppermint Pig Thrift & Gift is a nice store because of its vision/mission, although most of the items in the store are junk. Surely there a few things in there that are good, but at the very least you can take advantage of the "one free mug or toy" offer. Don't forget Adoption Saturdays from 1-4 on (long pause for dramatic effect)...Saturdays. read more

My wife made me go here. Normally, I like thrift stores. I did not like this one. It's a thrift store that apparently also sells pets.... Thrift stores already have a funny smell. This one was intensified ten fold...it smelled awful. I couldn't actually tell you how the store really was. I made one quick lap and ran back out the door...because the place reeked. I wouldn't recommend going here. It's crowded...everything felt gross and dirty (even for a thrift store) and it smelled bad. read more

I wanted to like Peppermint Pig Thrift & Gift. I really did. I have friends that have gone and found great deals on unique items. During my visit, I had no such luck. I'm sure that just like any other thrift shop, it's hit or miss. I won't say I would never go back because I probably would. But next time, I'll come prepared in knowing that there are real live animals in the store. There are signs that indicate that animals are indeed welcome in their store but for some reason, in my mind, that didn't compute. So people with pet allergies, beware! I was a bit stuffed up for the next few hours and the whole experience weirded me out a bit. BUT, the supercool thing about this place is that their proceeds help animals. So, while I think it's strange that animals are just hanging out in the thrift shop, at least I know that some of them are ultimately receiving help from a generous business ran by volunteers. read more

I sent a facebook messenger message to the business prior to stopping in, and they responded quickly. I found out that they accept dog food, blankets, toys, etc... for dogs, so I wanted to drop some of those items off. The store is definitely jam packed, and I got to see some ridiculously cute cats and dogs while I was in there. read more

Wanted to give some honest information about this business. I volunteer, shop, donate, and foster at The Peppermint Pig that is a nonprofit whose proceeds go to pay for the rescue, care, and spay/neutering of animals in your Cincinnati community. No paid employees. All volunteers with different skills, backgrounds, interests but who have a great love of animals. Some people work mainly in the store and some on adoptions and vaccinations. This is not a normal retail store. The store takes donations of money and household goods. My favourite things to sort and price are things that were obviously lovingly cared for but no longer needed or wanted. Sometimes people even tell me the history behind their donation. A collection of German ornaments from a grandmother, a cranberry cut glass pitcher bought by a father for his wife, a set of china bought in Japan. The store inventory changes daily. We have people who shop and donate weekly. They feel like they can clean out clutter or change decor while donating to a good cause. Inventory includes electronics, tools, furniture, jewelry, pet supplies, glass, books, seasonal, pottery, garden, linens, art supplies, clothes. If you have that one thing you know is worth something and you haven't taken the time to Ebay it or Craigslist it, but you don't need, like, or have room for it, donate it to a good cause. That's the Pig's store inventory. The animals and their smells. The store is not a shelter. A cat or dog is caged because it hasn't been vetted or has been brought to the store for potential adopters to see. The organization uses foster families to rehabilitate and care for rescued animals. The store is used for adoptions and so animals are brought in and out. Accidents happen when you have been living outside under an old car, in a kill shelter crate, or are a 8 wk old puppy. If you are a cat, you poop in a box. Volunteers get to clean it all up. Shoppers might get to smell it, but we do actively clean. The clothes DO NOT SMELL! I have bought many things for my husband and boys- Aeropostale, Ralph Lauren, Josabank, American Eagle, dress shirts donated with dry cleaning tags on them. It would be wonderful to have separate areas for the store and animal adoptions but that would require a different facility. Fostering: the Pig needs more foster families. Patient people who can behavior and potty train animals. For dogs, you need a fence. I foster cats/ herds of kittens. Great experience for families with children. read more

I have a blast every time I stop in. The store is run by all volunteers and proceeds go to help Safe Haven Animal Sanctuary. It is crowded with lots of "Stuff" but that makes it even more fun to hunt for hidden treasure.I have gotten clothes, animal items, and even GIFTS. Just to set the record straight, they do not SELL pets. They have pets up for adoption. All of which live with foster parents until they can find their forever home. Having read previous reviews on here, I suppose the name of the store is not as accurate as they need. This store works like Goodwill, but their proceeds go to the Safe Haven Animal Sanctuary. These are all donated good, and that's why they may not always been in the best repair. I do feel that the volunteers do the best they can in the space they have, as well as pricing fairly to the condition of the items they receive, but I've never paid attention to their title of "Thrift and Gift" because, I'll agree, they aren't exactly gift idea kind of items all the time. There are still definitely unique items and plenty of household things at a great price For the person discussing the smell of the place, I've been shopping at the store for about two years (stopping in at least once every two weeks) and these people are very quick to clean up pet messes as they happen (but they will still happen!). They do have pets in the store pretty much at all times because Safe Haven does not currently have its own kennel to do its adoptions from. If you experienced a bad smell, it is likely that one of the pets had an accident and the workers were still cleaning it up in the few minutes you were present. read more

This fantiastic exciting store not only has great bargains, all volunteer and supports abused and abandoned Cincinnati animals but can indeed offer new "gifts" in spite of what previous reviewer said. The constantly changing offerings mean that you need to check the inventory often to find what you want. You might not find the new items because I just bought a lot of them! and animal lovers, please remember to donate your new and gently used items to this store. A tax receipt may give you move money than selling them and vet bills and spay/neuter bills need to be paid. read more

This store could be someone's nightmare. It is a thrift store that also has animals inside the store who are available for adoption. Yes, that means there's a crate of kittens in the middle of the store. You can see this isn't my nightmare but a dream come true! Peppermint Pig combines two of my loves in life, thrifting and kittens. My mother had told me the store had kitties, but I thought she meant weird cat statues or cats on potholders or something. When I rounded the corner and the tiny kittens saw me, they went crazy. They wanted me to take them home, but I already have a kitty that's a handful. So, I had to leave without them. But, I did find really cool plates and goblets, all for a much lower price than nearby thrift stores. Why not five stars? I will probably never want to buy any clothing there. I might like kittens, but I really don't want to smell like one. The volunteers who run the place get 5 stars. read more
