FANTASTIC hidden gem find: beautiful crystal punch set, for $30! Washed the grime off, the set is in impeccable condition, ready to party.
    Anna S.

We have never been to the Peppermint Pig even though I have passed it a hundred times or more. However, I read an article about them on my local news app and was surprised to hear that they are a non-profit thrift shop, 100%-ran by volunteers, TO BENEFIT ANIMALS! WHAT! So at the very least I wanted to drop off some items and a check donation. Donations are tax-deductible, as PP is a 501(c)(3) organization. We came by just planning to drop off our items - but then my kiddo and I wanted to look around and thrift, especially because the store actually has free-range foster cats! Seriously, just adoptable, foster-resident kitties roaming around. I am a crazy cat lady, so I am IN LOVE with this concept. I kept chasing the cats around trying to pet them (cats are such snotty little poop-heads though, they come and go and do as they please). My daughter found some jewelry and tops that she wanted (they were dirt cheap). But I feel like I seriously hit the lottery with my thrifting finds: a complete crystal punch bowl set with 12 matching cups and a ladle, for $30! Also, I am slowly but surely trying to build up a complete collection of vintage Pfaltzgraff dishware with blue flowers, in the oatmeal color. I want this exact kind of dishware because it is what my late grandmother had. However, I found 12 coffee cups with saucers, a butter dish, creamer, tea pot and sugar bowl FOR $15! I was so excited by this, especially when I painfully remembered that I had bought the one butter dish a year ago off of Etsy - for $40 :( Is the store beautiful and shiny and spotless and smelling like money and dreams? Uh, no, it's a thrift shop. Are there cats residing in the shop and cats/dogs are welcome in the store? YES, it's a non-profit org to benefit animals! Also, of course you will need to thoroughly wash anything that you buy from here, the items are all donated. So seriously, ignore the negative reviews of PP, this place is a little gem (and trust me, I'm a germaphobe. Just go home and wash any 'ish you buy). And I really liked the volunteer staff, they were so friendly and nice. We will DEFINITELY be back to donate and thrift (and to pet the kitties!).

I ran into a situation where I needed some work done at my home, and I could not continue to foster the FOURTEEN foster pets that I had through them at the time. Rather than work with me, help me, and have empathy for my situation, I experienced a lot of pushback, and negative reactions to needing a break from fostering. My phone calls and texts were not being returned. When they were returned, I was met with attitude and a complete lack of understanding or compassion. After much resistance, they finally took the fosters back. They don't supply their fosters with food or supplies as they claim. Not once was I given any supplies for the dozens of animals that I fostered through them, even when I expressed that the puppies I was fostering were going through more food than I could manage. They also don't spay and neuter most of their animals before adoption. Now that I am back in my home, neither Regan, nor Jaime, (the founders of PORT), will return my messages asking about the well-being of my former fosters. If you bend over and break your back for them, you'll be great. But God forbid life happens and you find yourself unable to help, because you then mean NOTHING to them. Proceed with caution should you decide to do any sort of business with PORT. Don't expect a lot of help. Definitely don't expect compassion and empathy when life happens. Edit in response to PORT's reply: Port requires a minimum of 5 days notice for return, except in cases of emergency. I had an emergency. I explained this to you guys over and over and over again and your response was, "that must be tough." I had a dog through you that was being aggressive with a child. But you guys didn't consider a threat to someone's safety an emergency and were of no help. In some cases, I waited more than 5 days for you to help; I waited literally weeks! Not to mention that that dog was pregnant, and when I took her, you never advised me that that was a possibility. So I ended up with eight puppies, when I agreed to one. It was never "clear to you" that our foster relationship had come to its conclusion and that I wished to step away. I quite literally told you that once I was back in my home, I would take the animals back if they still needed placement. I notified you on July 10th that I could not handle all of the puppies. You did not take them until July 18th, and that was only after I showed up to get their shots and microchips, and had to PLEAD with you to help me. I notified both of you that Rusty was a safety risk, and you literally did not care. Even after notifying you of the unsafe circumstances, it took you two days to take her, and that was only after I refused to give you any more leeway. That was also after I had notified you on July 10th that I could not handle all of the animals that I had. You did not take Rusty back until July 31st. I let you know on July 28th that I was having trouble getting the kittens adopted. I notified you on August 4th that we needed to move the kittens. You did not take them until August 15th. As for the spay/neuter, it's irresponsible for a rescue not to spay and neuter before adoption, regardless of any contract. I also asked, several times, about getting my fosters fixed, and you never followed through. Don't gaslight me. You did enough of that when I was actually fostering with you.

When I insisted that they take responsibility and that they did owe my dog medication for Giardia because nobody disclosed this to me when adopting this puppy they told me that that's my opinion and that I can take him to my own vet or pay at their vet for the treatment even though they kept admitting that this puppy did have Giardia and they were belittling and gaslighting and disrespectful at a time in my life where I am going through a lot, and I have had the patience of a saint, with this puppy, cleaning up his pee every five minutes and taking him outside every five minutes through the night without sleep and trying to train him and now my own dog that I've had for 13 years since the beginning of his life who only weighs 8 pounds is pooping himself to death right now and I have to take him to a vet and pay for treatment for a sickness that I didn't know the dog I was adopting from the league had. They will be rude and they will take zero responsibility. I will 100% admit any time that it's my own fault that I did not sit and look in detail at the paperwork before taking this dog home and the chaos of the adoption. But I will say that the shelter did also admit that they only disclose information on current illness not previous illness if it's been treated. Well, also admitting yes, even if it is contagious after treatment because I asked and the answer I got was yes they will not disclose that if it's already been treated. Be very careful about the details on the pets you adopt because every animal deserves love and every animal deserves a home and and I'm heartbroken to the point of sobbing right now while I'm writing this from sadness and frustration for this poor puppy and my own dog and because my mental health cannot take this right now, and I do not have the financial means to take care of this kind of problem, hardly for my own dog and I'm upset at the fact that at this point for my own health and my child's health and my dog's health that I already had. I have to take this puppy back because of Giardia being contagious for weeks even after being cured and now I have to do even more deep cleaning at home after all of the hard work I've already done cleaning up after him trying to help him get settled in, and my son already fell in love with him, but my son gets sick really easily and my dog gets sick really easily and more I do too so for the sake of my own family's health, I'm taking him back to the shelter and I should've looked into things more and asked about any previous illnesses, but I just thought that the leak for animal welfare was better than that. I'm not giving up on my own dog who could potentially die from this because he's so sensitive to everything and has almost died from previous illnesses. They seemed like really cool people and a really awesome place and it turned out to be very opposite of that. I'm not saying they don't care about animals, but they definitely don't care enough about people. I also wanna make it really clear that I did not yell at them on the phone and all I did was express my feelings and express the fact that they would be upset if they were in my position and someone did this to a dog that they had for 13 years since they were a puppy and wouldn't take responsibility, anyone would be upset in this position. It's wrong and unethical and to hang up on somebody who's legitimately upset, and just begging to be acknowledged as a human and for their own pet that they already had to be cared for instead of being belittled and gaslit, it's all just really devastating

COUNTLESS people have come forward proving, with vet records, that ARF sold them a sick animal, refused to help with the bills, and denied any wrongdoing. ARF does not vaccinate their animals properly, or regularly. The animals do NOT see a vet upon their arrival. Sick animals are NOT quarantined. Cats are put in wire bottom cages that are incredibly dangerous and uncomfortable for the cats. Puppies are put in filthy plexiglass boxes, even when they are too tall. On many occasions I have seen the dogs head scraping the top of the plexiglass container. The adult dogs are in indoor/outdoor kennels (in a shed) 24/7 without temperature control. In the winter, they freeze, and in the summer, it is so hot and humid that they are not allowed to go on walks (the owners believe the dogs will faint.) They feed the animals table syrup to mask the symptoms of kennel cough. Many animals have been at the shelter for more than 4 years. The adult dogs at the shelter are part of their puppy-selling-business, they are simply the "last puppy that never got adopted." After being at the shelter for so long, many dogs now have aggression, anxiety, and are unsocialized. These animals are being neglected, ANYONE can see that. The funds from both adoptions AND their bingo operation are not properly filtered back into their rescue.
