Love this place ! Went for the first time Friday night while waiting to be seated at billy yanks. Heard great things from friends who have dogs that require special diets and they get their food from here. The staff is very pleasant ,professional and knowledgeable. I admit, I was skeptical about this place. I even told my boyfriend so. We were doing a small tour of new stores in Hamilton and of course the pet store was on our list. I thought it was homemade dog food. Like, someone laboring in the kitchen on location, behind the scenes. But, I was a little wrong. There were balms and oils for my dog (or cat). But I immediately thought of myself, trying to decide if it was weird for me my dog to smell the same. But when I looked around, I learned a lot. It's a boutique for cats and dogs. But it's much more. First of all, there is Rachel. She and her business partner (who I have not had the pleasure to meet) opened the store with this great respect for Hamilton and Hamilton's history. Much of the store is reclaimed from other buildings in Hamilton and our surrounding states. And Rachel herself is just this fantastic, delight of a woman. If she doesn't charm the pants off you, I don't know who will. She's enthusiastic about telling you about pet food, the store and sharing a nice conversation which can feel rare sometimes. She's excited about being part of Hamilton. The store sells products that support different causes. So, while you're treating your pet, which you would have done anyway, you make a small donation. Then there's the actual food. It's made fresh weekly. There are four kinds in the store. Two dog, two cat. I was given a sample for my dog. My dog has gotten older. She's always been a painfully picky eater, to the point of starving herself. They say if a person or animal gets hungry enough it will eat. She is proof that is not true. Her teeth have also loosened due to age. So, when Rachel gave me the sample and told me to soak it in warm water I thought, yeah, we'll see about this... I don't think my dog likes her treats as much as she likes this food. She is back to what is known as fighting weight. (She's a lover, not a fighter.) It's expensive. I won't say it isn't. People take better care of their pets than themselves. I'm included in that. But Pet Wants wants to help take care of you, too. They have free delivery and do a lot of local fesitvals and stuff. If I could give Pet Wants more than five stars, I would, because they deserve all of accolades they can receive. I came here with my husband for the first time during the Comic Book Day on Main Street event that was being held a couple of months ago, which they were participating in. We decided to stop in because we have cats, and I instantly noticed that the shop wasn't cluttered or overwhelming. This put me off a little at first, but that quickly changed when I realized that they carry great quality products, and are really able to hone their craft and focus on the best natural pet products they can possibly provide. So, upon walking deeper into the shop, we received a warm greeting from a kind and friendly woman, the owner of Pet Wants. She was very genuine and attentive and proceeded to show us around. When we told her we had cats, she was extremely helpful and was able to point out all of their cat products and even recommended a few different foods, explaining how they worked. What's neat though is that they actually make their own natural pet food kibble here in a variety of types for different nutritional needs. They keep it in big silos right behind the counter. The owner recommended the lean kibble for my cat with kidney issues, and the regular adult kibble for my other senior cat. What is amazing is that she will give you a free sample of their food to take home for your pet to try! And it honestly is a very generous size! I was very impressed with that. Long story short, our cats love their kibble and we had to come back for more! We were instantly won over that day, and we continue to be regulars. And now, this is our new go-to pet food store! To this very day, the owner is such a kind and glowing person. She remembers who we are and what we come to pick up, and always asks how our pets are. It is beyond a pleasure to be able to support this wonderful local business. Please stop in yourself and experience genuinely amazing customer service and pick up something great for your pet.
