The grilled platter (Kamayan) served on banana leaves was very eye-catching and made the whole meal feel extra special. There was a nice variety of seafood, meat, rice, and vegetables, so every bite felt a little different. I liked the grilled flavors the most. Everything felt hearty, savory, and perfect for sharing. I also enjoyed seeing the food display at the counter because it made the place feel lively and full of character. It gave me the feeling that this is the kind of restaurant where you come hungry and leave very satisfied. The atmosphere was casual and busy in a good way, with a very down-to-earth and welcoming vibe. It may not be fancy, but it felt warm, authentic, and full of energy, which honestly made the lunch even more memorable. I had a nice time here and would definitely come back when I'm craving a satisfying Filipino meal.

The flavor of everything was really good and everything was nicely grilled. We chose to get the milkfish which was a bit too salty for me. The garlic rice was nice and complements everything well. You can get unlimited refill for the rice. There was a lot of seating space but I can see this place getting packed. The halo halo was pretty good too though I didn't like the peanuts and beans in it.

It's literally the pre-cooked chicken I can get at the deli department at no frills! Super confused on why such a nice place can't get fresh chicken. Even my boyfriends pasta dish with chicken wasn't fresh The service was nice though, our waiter was very accommodating and kind. I don't know if we'd want to come back unless Red lobster brings back the AYCE shrimp again. Overall, super terrible.

4.5 rounding up to 5…read more My sister treated me to lunch on an early Sunday afternoon. We met in the ample parking lot although the entrance might be easy to miss coming south on Dufferin since it's a bit of a weird angle. I was glad when we left to see that you can come and go on a side street that has a traffic light intersection cuz Dufferin is busy and it's a pain to get out on a left turn. I waited about a minute for a host to come to the entrance and assist with seating. I was struck by the absolute lack of seafood smell coming in. The restaurant is very large and has many types of seating options from smaller tables to larger tables to booths and more than one room. Very clean and quiet. I paused to check out the live samples in their aquarium. The bathrooms have a gender neutral option in addition to the traditional ones. I was led to one of the tables not too far from the kitchen and asked if we could have one of the window booths. No problem. I did have to ask for water upon being seated and none was offered to my sister for most of the meal. We finally managed to get her a glass after waving down our server. Other than that no problems with our orders. I opted for the build your own combo with bay scallops, fettuccine Alfredo and green beans. I was so glad to see that the green beans were bright and crisp, not overcooked and soggy. The scallops arrived in a plentiful dish of garlic butter, and the pasta was a good sized portion. Also a nice surprise was the improved cheddar biscuits. They arrived hot, soft and full of savory flavour. My sister was equally happy with her entree of salmon and fries. It isn't cheap, but it's nice enough value. We also split a chocolate wave dessert which was lovely. It comes with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream, and the chocolate sauce was nice and warm. Yum! We had our coffee cups refilled to ensure full enjoyment with the dessert. The restaurant also has little tabletop computers which you can use to view the menu, play games, and perhaps best of all, pay your bill at your leisure without having to wait on your server coming back to bring the machine to you. All in all a great revisit to this chain. Traffic notwithstanding a great location. Large, clean and comfortable. Definitely would come back.

On a hot, sunny day, I visited The Captain's Boil with friends for some seafood, and I have to say,…read moreI had a great time. From the outside, the familiar black-and-white sign was clean but showed signs of age, with faint white streaks suggesting that the exterior could use a refresh. Inside, we were greeted by a wall of colourful sticky notes, adding a fun touch to the dark, brick-lined interior. I also appreciated the nearby sink, making it easy to wash our hands without heading to the bathroom. It was definitely convenient. After being seated, the menu left much to be desired. It showed its age, with white scratches that made it hard to read the items. The ordering system was not intuitive for a first-time visitor, so we had to rely on our server for guidance. Also, the drinks menu looked like a printout from Excel, which was small, hard to read and, unfortunately, overpriced. We ordered the Matey's Feast along with another order of seafood, which was a generous meal for three people. Matey's Feast is one of their set meals that allowed us to choose two types of seafood, along with a variety of sides. Each boil also came with two regular sides, which was a nice touch. We went with Captain's Boil seasoning at medium spice, which was just right for enjoying the seafood. The boils arrived in clear bags, and we had to take them out of the bag and eat by hand. Shrimp Basket: A hot and crispy appetizer served on a bed of Cajun fries, which really whetted my appetite. The tartar sauce and ketchup on the side complemented the crunch. Captain's Fried Rice with Seafood: A simple but tasty plate of rice with shrimp. We added some of the sauce from the seafood boils for extra flavour. It was filling. Seafood Boils: Each bag of seafood was packed with seasoning and came with disposable gloves so we could dig in with our hands. The clams were cooked perfectly, with just the right amount of spices. The shrimp required a bit more work, with the heads and shells needing to be removed, but they were large and fresh, making it worth the effort. The extra sauce in each bag was perfect for drenching our sides or adding more flavour to the fried rice. Sides: We chose corn for the regular sides and sausage for the premium side. Corns were quarter-length cobs of corn and the sausages were served sliced. We tossed both into the seafood boil bags to soak up the spicy sauce, making them even more enjoyable. The service was adequate, with staff checking in occasionally to ensure we had everything we needed. The washroom, located downstairs, was not spotless but still serviceable. In terms of value, I found the pricing to be on the higher side. The drinks, at $4 each, were refillable but expensive considering I only had two cups. Given that it's a seafood restaurant, higher prices were expected, but I appreciated that sides like fries and fried rice helped fill us up. Overall, I had a good time. My rating of 3 reflects the tricky ordering process and steep prices, but the food was definitely enjoyable, and I left feeling full. I'd return if I was in the mood for seafood boil and ready to splurge a little.

There was a table free, but it's like they didn't want to clear it, which is fine. We weren't upset when we were seated our server, didn't come back for a good next 20 minutes. Our server was straight to the point didn't care to introduce himself. Didn't really want to explain anything on the menu or offer us anything more when we were inquiring about different foods, which is fine our order was missing a side of calamari and literally every side with the seafood so the corn potatoes and etc., even extra sides that we ordered were missing. We thought they come separately so we were waiting, but we got so hungry. We just started eating the gloves they gave us. We didn't get a bucket, never inquired about anything. Our server didn't come back to ask us if we needed anymore assistance or anything we had to pull another server to the side and ask them if we still going to get our calamari in our sides and she implies that came in with the seafood bag. We just didn't know how it worked. We never been there and you would think someone that works. There would know what they're doing, but that's OK. Things happen so we asked for our sides but this is how I know our server which was a male was out to get us when my friend kindly asked for some water and our server proceeds to give her hot water on purpose when my friend turned around and shocked to look for the server he gave her a dead blank stare with a little grin. At that point we just wanted to go we asked the server that was supposed to give us our sides, which by the way didn't come another 10 minutes pass by we just asked for the check and told her we don't want the sides anymore. We just wanna go. Our server, which was the mail gives us our bill and I see that the sides are still on there. He proceeds to say it's a part of the package and then we said OK just give us the sides and then he proceeds with a lot of attitude to say well you are the one that sent the sides back, our food was already halfway done lol we just paid and ran out. I think the service in here is disgusting and the server that served us purposely had a problem with us. He was so kind of everybody else in the restaurant besides me and my friend all servers were amazing everybody else besides me and my friend and we didn't come in there. Complaining are making attitude are doing anything rude, we were kind and we still got treated like garbage. I think this change should be embarrassed of their selves. The manager should be embarrassed, and the guy serving us should be fired giving my friend hot water is evil and disgusting. He knew what he was doing and honestly, I don't even trust the food the way they were acting if you guys want sass and attitude with your food then yeah eat here.

The entire staff is pleasant and genial, and the food is consistently good. The shape of the restaurant can be a little bit awkward. The first time I was here, I sat toward the back of the restaurant, which felt a little bit narrow. The second time, I was near the front, which was much more typical. Both times I've been here, I've been completely full. This place stands out among Italian places in that it serves quality ingredients, but actually gives you enough to be satisfied. Looks like they've added some tasting menus... I'll have to be back to try them!

Parked the beast outside, and walked like one leg was shorter than the other into the restaurant. This was an ethnic restaurant, comprised of Jamaicans and Trinis. We met up with a higher ranking manager at our organisation, and sat together to exchanges company gossip over some beer. I never had ox tail before, and my friends highly recommended the dish to me here. Ox tail with rice it is! I felt no intimidation here, in fact, I think the locals felt more intimidated by me. I was afterall the biggest guy here, but the scare is just beginning. The place is super casual, not an ounce of needless..ness. The waitress/bartender was very friendly and always had a smile on her face. My food came. Oh my God, the food looked so simple, and it was damn good. This was ox tail? YUM! I cleaned the plate in less than five minutes, my friends were looking at me like they've just witnessed a human sacrifice. I ordered another meal of the curry chicken. The waitress couldn't contain her laughter, and padded me on the shoulder as if she was giving her baby boy the Huggie's "that's a big boy now" gesture. nom nom nom nom nom. The chicken was a bit dry, but the potatoes were pretty decent. Two plates down, and people in the restaurant thought they were looking at an exhibition at the Zoo. They've never seen a Chinese Maan devour so much food in such an barbaric manner. A gentleman actually approached me from his bar stool to congratulate me on my ferocious appetite, and high fived me. Hey! Didn't anyone ever tell you not to pet the exhibits?! lol... I was so full, I was barely able to climb back into the truck.
