Standing on the corner of Shadduck and Channing, such a fine sight to see. It's a one $ swhirl, with a flat walk curl, showing up to serve lunch to me. (Apologies to Jackson Browne). I came because of the price, and it's not gourmet, but I'll fill up today and come back for other things on their menu. Hawaiian BBQ has reasonable menu choices and the most expensive item (Kalua Pork and Pork Lau Lau) is $13.15. More than a dozen choices under $10. Eat and run. Take it easy; the Wikiwiki way. Try the chicken katsu. The food is relatively inexpensive for the massive portion sizes you get. It's no wonder that obesity is a big problem in Hawaii. I've had the bbq meat combo which was all right. They have a cheap burger and fries deal. I'd stick with the chicken katsu. Meals come with a scoop of rice and macaroni salad. Great spot. Like all Hawaiian spots they give you tons of food here that you probably won't be able to finish. Which is great because they have a small portion as well. I don't know if its because I can't find any other casual place that does them in Berkeley, or because they themselves are actually good, but Either way for like $8/9 you get way more food than you can handle, a bunch of really good ribs, two full scoops of rice, and the salad. Lots of friends are regulars here too, always rave about their Chicken Katsu. While its not a fancy meal out, its definitely a good place to go if you're really hungry (and you'll probably still have leftovers!) read more

I've been looking for something like L&L in San Jose/Campbell, so I was super excited when I found this place. It's cheap and they give you a good amount (the not-so-mini mini size is enough to fill you up if you eat the rice and macaroni, which is complimentary). First time here. Had the Kalua pork and pork lau lau combo and BBQ short ribs. The Kalua pork was nice. It had a nice smoky flavor. The meat was tender and shredded. It had a nice salt flavor and was paired with cabbage. The cabbage soaked up the juices very well and had a nice crunch. The lau lau was the definite highlight of my dinner. Pork belly and butterfish wrapped with a creamy taro leaves wrapped in ti leaves. I loved the flavor of the taro leaves. It was very creamy and soft and warm. The leaves neutralized the saltiness of the pork belly and butterfish. The fat of the pork added tremendous flavor to the dish. Two scoops of steamed white rice was also served along with one scoop of chicken macaroni salad. The macaroni salad had a nice flavor of zest and creaminess. The short ribs were okay. They were tender with a sweet marinade. I think it could have been cooked a little more to make it easier to cut. read more

It was bland and gravy made it a tad better, the meat was deprived of marinade and the eggs tasted like eggs, meal over priced. Now the seating & cashier area needs a touch up because menu looks disarray, the not -so cleanliness; snacks and condiments in various areas and dirty tables; Maybe a small mom and pop shop will do them justice because its a 2 person operation but the space is so large it highlights are their problem areas. I love this place. I preferred it to Dot Island actually, but Dot Island was much closer to UCB campus. Now that Dot Island has been closed for awhile, this is the only place I go to for my Hawaiian fix. I really like their burger and fries combo. Great value and lots of fries! I recommend the chicken Katsu burger and the teriyaki beef burger, For their rice places, I enjoy the chicken Katsu, the garlic shrimp, and the fried fish. Their portions are huge and a mini is more than enough for me. I always have leftovers! Great food, great prices. Just a bit far. read more

Bought the shrimp burger from here. It's literally one smashed coconut shrimp with some wilted lettuce a tomato and mayo. What the heck, why even sell this? It's absurd. Moreover it took a long time for my shrimp burger with a single crustacean to be ready. Not worth the time or money, literally anywhere else would be a better use of your money. read more

Came here with my bestie because we had been craving Hawaiian bbq and were long deprived of it. We looked for the closest location and this came up. We came in for lunch, parking wasn't too bad and it wasn't crazy busy at all. We ordered short ribs, chicken katsu, spam musubi and kimchi. I will say their kimchi was really good and well flavored. Everything else was good but not super amazing. I really liked the musubi because it didn't have as much rice as some of the other places I had been to in the past. Prices are standard. Make sure to ask for it well-done - I've had it undercooked a couple of times, and the rare texture coupled with the sweetness of the marinade is a bit off-putting. The Grilled Mahi Mahi is fantastic - salty garlic bits top a firm fillet of fish in a marriage of the mild and robust. The rice is sticky, never hard, and balances the sweetness of the flavorful meats effectively. The Musubi is fat with a sizeable slice of extra-sweetened Spam on top of a soapbed of rice wrapped in nori. Addendum: The Macaroni Salad is deservedly buttery and mayonnaise-y enough while boasting al dente elbow pasta. I will admit four stars is pretty generous for a standard Hawaiian fast food joint, but considering how often I get take-out here, it seems unfair to rate them any lower. Wiki Wiki is a two minute walk from my apartment, and it's my guilty pleasure to get it whenever I'm too lazy to cook/do dishes/buy groceries/all of the above. The regular sized meals are *almost* big enough for two meals, so it works out to be a pretty good deal! I love their BBQ short ribs, and while I found the macaroni salad weird at first, I actually really like that it's not as mayonaise-y as macaroni salad can be at other places. The people who work here are also really polite. Keep your expectations reasonable - the meals are only around $7, so you're not looking for gourmet fare :) read more

Really, really well priced food if you're trying to eat out on a budget in Berkeley area. It's also like, reasonably yummy as well. The cleanliness at this place is not great though, and I felt like frozen food tasted better so I stopped going there. I give Wikiwiki more like 1.5 stars. I think I'm on the verge of being sick, not to mention my hair and clothes smell like grease from just eating here. Maybe it's the residual grease smell that's nauseating. I ordered the bento plate, which had "mahi mahi" (or rather some other type of mystery fish), teriyaki steak, BBQ chicken, and ham for $6.50. It also had two scoops of rice and macaroni salad. Honestly, the rice was the best part of the meal. It cleansed the grease from my palate. The steak and chicken tasted the same. It probably had the same teriyaki sauce, and the ham was just a piece of cold cut ham from a package. It was really salty. The macaroni salad had tons of mayo, which I'm not a big fan of. I really wanted to try their kalua pork and pork lau lau, but I wasn't really in the mood for that liquid smoke flavor, and I've never had pork lau lau before and wasn't sure how it would be. Overall, Wikiwiki is disappointing. I think Alohana Hawaiian Grill a few blocks away is a notch better. read more

I'm not really sure what everyone's raving about... I decided to try this place out because I remember everyone craving about the meat and the loco moco plate. So, I thought I should give it a chance. I ordered the loco moco to the cashier. When I first arrived, the staff gave me complete blank stares and no smiles. They prepared the food quickly enough, but something about the atmosphere in the restaurant kind of seemed shabby. The loco moco is almost like cafeteria food. The meat tastes like what you would have gotten from public middle schools. Egg is way too overcooked and the edges are slightly burned. The macaroni is cold - straight out of the fridge from a container I'm guessing. It's pretty greasy as well. The taste is average, but nothing to go obsessed about. I have found an L&L substitute near UC Berkeley! Huzzah! So, feeling lazy and gluttonous today, I decided to order in some dinner. To my office. At the UC. I settled on Wiki Wiki and spent the (short) wait for my delivery slightly worried it wasn't going to live up to my San Diego L&L expectations, but I was so wrong. I got my standard, a BBQ chicken plate. Now, it's not better than L&L, I'll say that. I would have loved more cabbage, and the teriyaki sauce was a thick sauce that kind of hurt my tongue (L&L's is very thin and just soaks right into the rice whereas this coats the ball of rice) but it was good. The chicken was just like L&L's - the portion was mayyyyyybe a bit smaller, but still too much for me to finish. And maybe my L&L down in SD was super generous. The rice was so densely packed, it was a little struggle to get the ball apart. I don't have strong feelings either way about that :P Now, for the macaroni salad. I am not normally a fan of mac salad. L&L's is the only one I've ever liked so I was worried I was gonna be just eating rice and chicken today. But this, this mac salad is super similar to L&L's and I LOVED IT. I ate all of it, and I asked for 2 mac scoops and one rice instead of the standard 2 rice/1 mac. Overall, the food was your standard Hawaiian fast food grill food, which is exactly what I wanted today. My other big props to Wiki Wiki was that I requested the 2 scoops of mac on my online order, noting that substitutions incur a $.50 charge. I said I would be all right with them not being able to do it because of that, but they did anyway and gave me the extra teriyaki sauce I also asked for. I really appreciated that! This place isn't the best, fanciest, classiest meal you're gonna find, but damn it's delicious and filling and the right mix of sweet, savory, warm, and creamy. I'm very happy to have tried Wiki Wiki today and I'll definitely be eating it again soon. read more

Wiki Wiki (which loosely translates to "fast" in Hawaiian) is a bit of a misnomer because this might be the slowest plate lunch restaurant I've ever been to. I'll let it slide because the food here is actually pretty good. My BBQ Mix plate was fresh...the BBQ chicken tasted like it was just cooked as opposed to being par cooked and thrown on the grill to heat up. Short ribs were good and not tough at all like at some places. My wife had the curry mix plate which is hamburger steak and teriyaki beef smothered in curry sauce. The curry was sweet, which my wife liked, and it also had chunks of beef in it, so it was more like a curry stew on top of the hamburger steak and teriyaki. The little beef chunks were great. I'm a big fan of Waikiki Hawaiian BBQ in Concord and Livermore, so if this place is related as others have mentioned, then it's no wonder that I liked the food. read more

On my first visit, I ordered the pork lau lau, my girlfriend ordered the wiki wiki combo, and we were soon up to our ears in meaty, tasty, barbecued, goodness. We noticed that the grill didn't start sizzling until after we had placed our order--everything tasted freshly-cooked and not merely reheated. But as has been said elsewhere, it took a bit longer than you'd expect from the look of the place. Loco Moco in Spanish means 'crazy booger', I have no idea what it means in Hawaiian. Either way I cannot say no to meat, eggs, rice and ESPECIALLY gravy!! The gravy was good the rice was rice and nothing special and the meat was pretty good. Not super not bad but decent. I can't be 100% sure but I am pretty convinced that no actual boogers were harmed in the making of the dish. Surprised they're not busier than ever since the closure of Dot Island in Sather Lane, but doesn't stop hungry college students during deadweek! Right on Channing x Shattuck this spacious place had GREAT food at pretty good prices. They even have a couple Pick-2 deals for cheaper options. The Chicken Katsu was fresher and better tasting than I've ever had at Dot Island, and the portion sizes were incredible (3 stacks of katsu gmfu). Don't come to this restaurant when they are about to close. We were in a very big hungry after a walk around downtown. As my girlfriend's recommendation, we walked in this restaurant to satisfy our hunger. The smell of the food was great but what I really dislike about this business is the Asian girl who works as a cashier. We came at 9:40pm and while we were waiting, instead of recommend us what to order (since its our first time), that girl warned ua that they gonna close at 10pm. We felt so uncomfortable hearing that from the girl because we were so hungry and it just gonna take us around 15 mins to finish. That's why after getting our food for to go, we intended to stay there to eat a little bit since we were so in a big hunger. However, that girl just came out trying to open the front door wide and clean the outside tables with the phone on her neck. After seeing that, we just left and fely really disappointed about the service. read more

Food: The food here is, well, its average. And not in a bad way. I live really close to this place and its a great place for food when I really just don't know what else to eat and they never fail to fill me up for a cheap price. I don't think I would ever choose to come here for any other reason than to just get a quick meal though. My favorites would be the teriyaki chicken and the grilled short ribs. The meals come with macaroni salad (which is my favorite here) and rice--both in differing amounts depending on what size you order. Service: This is really just an order and pick up your food kinda place so no real service. They prefer cash over credit card though, and have heard from friends that they can get visibly irritated when you can only pay card. Environment: No real decorations but they do have a wide array of Hawaiian Sun drinks on display which is kinda cool as you don't really see many places selling these drinks! Apparently they are pretty popular on the islands as cheap fruit drinks so that's a nice touch. read more

I am so glad I tried another Hawaiian place before this one. Otherwise, I'd have nothing to compare this to. 1. Environmentally friendly post-consumer-waste container. NOT plastic. 2. Chicken Katsu had thick meaty chicken. But not slimy scary chicken. Obviously they use different chicken on their chicken katsu burgers. This was perfectly fried, the oil did not have an offensive aroma, the panko crumbs stuck to the chicken patty but was oh-so-light and crisp. The mini portion I got cost $5.38 including tax as of today and the cashier girl was so patient with me as I numbly counted out my change but then forgot to give her the $5 bill. It's been a hard day. 3. Rice was nice and sticky. I'm Chinese. I like sticky rice. When I was staying with the BF, he likes it "firm" which translates in to "raw." I only eat that when I'm lacking in fiber or I'm on the laxatives diet. Just kidding kids, laxatives should only be used as a last resort. 4. Macaroni salad. My macaroni has a first name, it's d-e-l-i-c-i, my macaroni has a last name, it's M-A-Y-O. Don't judge. Sometimes, even the healthy vegan needs a mayo-injection. I don't eat this very often. This is the first Chicken Katsu plate I've ever order but I've sampled it from other's dinners. This is the BEST. It's so filling. I have such a love hate relationship with Wiki Wiki. You know that feeling when you shouldn't do something but you do it anyways because it feels good while you're at it? Well that's how I feel about this place. Every single time I think its a great idea to eat here until I realize I should have stopped halfway through my plate and saved it for seconds for another meal. Why is that? The addicting macaroni salad! Actually all their food is pretty good, not just their macaroni salad. I usually get their grilled chicken (teriyaki?). I used to also get the katsu chicken, not anymore. I have plenty of calories without breaded, deep fried chicken strips, tasty? yes, healthy? NO. The plate comes with some white steamed rice, mac salad and an entree. Their plates are actually quite big so maybe sharing with a friend is a good idea or even taking some to go. read more

Their Cashier is very mean and ruled, she is about in her later 40's, she served me the food with no forks or chopsticks and when I went to her to ask about the fork, she was too busy to talk to me, so I just sand there to wait for her. about 2 mins later she suddenly turned around and yell at me says,"What you want ? "with her angry face. I told her I have no fork to eat my food, then she realized her bad attitude so she just give me the fork and left.
