Now that she is older, the staff here really helps me: If a wig is past its useful life, they let me know and sell me a new one. In the interim, they wash and maintain her wigs. I visited Wigs Today this morning, arriving at 10:01am on a Tuesday (they open at 10am). June arrived at 10:08am, which really didn't bother me. I even told her I'd give her a few minutes to get settled. I told June I went through chemo that ended last August (2024), and my hair has been trying to grow in ever since (I just passed the "Chia Pet" stage). A week ago, I was diagnosed with a different type of cancer, and this time I'm expected to lose much more hair. Last time it was "just thinning," this time it will be a lot more. Trying to stay the planner I always am, I went to Wigs Today because of their Yelp reviews and large wig selection. I explained my situation to June. She helped me try on two wigs and asked if I was going to buy today. I told her no, since I might have radiation first (why buy now--better to wait until chemo starts). As soon as I said that, I could feel the shift. She seemed to want to rush me and didn't really want to help me keep looking for the right wig(s). I also wasn't happy with some things. I've never owned a wig. She put three on me, and all of them slipped. I asked several times about glue, and she said no. Finally, she mentioned clips. Then we talked about cleaning, and she told me not to wash the wig--but I saw wig shampoo for sale right there. How does that make sense? She also told me not to brush, just to use my fingers. Maybe that's true, but I need more information. Is this really what people do? In California summer heat, I'm supposed to wear a wig and never wash it? I honestly don't get it. And running my fingers through a wig doesn't feel like brushing--maybe a soft brush is okay? It was just all so confusing. As a potential new wig owner, I left feeling like I got very little guidance. I'll probably need to go to a more reputable wig shop for real answers. I arrived at Wigs Today last week a little apprehensive as to what the process of selecting a wig would be like. I was feeling a bit self conscious about the whole thing. June greeted me and my daughter (moral support) and put us at ease immediately. June is very sweet and was very patient helping us to find something flattering and the right color for my skin tone. The employee at this store today was absolutely HORRIBLE! Not only did she follow my daughter and my mother around the store, hiding behind displays. She refused to assist my daughter in trying on a wig! She was rude and her tone was SO unprofessional that it made my poor mother feel so uncomfortable that they thanked her (for nothing) and decided to leave! Right on the corner on PCH and Pennsylvania. If you are heading North on PCH it's on the left side. I stopped here with my mom and this place had A LOT of choices. Ranging from sophisticated cuts both long/short, blond/brunette/strawberry red/black/highlighted to funky electric pink and blue wigs. The human hair needs to be ordered and a price we were quoted on...I can get a couple laptops from costco cheaper. The one wig that my mom got went for around $200+. Parking is a bit tricky (it's one of those houses with a store front attached). I suggest to park on the street because getting out from the tight spaces is tricky, thank goodness I had my small car and not the van!
