The blank plastered walls and scatterings of furniture gave it a oddly morose look. No music was playing so the air was echoing with chatter and the whole thing was strangely depressing, like a party that's been going on far too long and everybody just wants to leave. Bear in mind this was its second day. There were some positives, mind. When they finally get round to ordering enough of everything on their menus, the selection here will be very impressive, with fine old ales from across the globe. I hope this place makes it eventually. They deserve to live up to their staff's eagerness and not my bristling cynicism.

As a Canadian, I was quite offended to once again find Moosehead as the only Canadian beer available. Seriously, haven't these guys ever heard of La Maudite, la Fin du Monde or Creemore springs. ( no, they haven't. ) The beer selection is also quite lager centric, and the only ales they carry are the pretty standard ones. At least they do have some Belgian Trappist beers, which does save the quality of their menu a little. But what they lack in their beer list, they more than make up for in their ambience and the general environment. Me and my girlfriend visited this place on a Sunday evening, and we were genuinely surprised to find a live singer ( who my girl quite fancied - insert angry emoticon here) and the atmosphere buzzing. I had a standard German Weiss and my lady consumed some Cusqueña. ( which I think I a great lager, and recommend it to lager lovers. ) Upstairs, they have rows of tables and benches, which I have been told is very German, but I really felt like I was home. The service was extremely friendly and even the bouncers ( I think they were bouncers) smiled. Whenever I'm in Liverpool, I shall be visiting this place, and if you are not an annoying beer snob like me, you will definitely enjoy the visit.

This bar and…read morerestaurant is the renovated and refurbished 350-year-old Plough Inn, which sat beside one of the main medieval routes of the north. Numerous historical figures have walked the halls of PLOU since then, and the building has been used for everything from a gin distillery to battle barracks. The new owners have carefully preserved the building and even showcase artefacts discovered in the cellar, where they also happened to excavate the old well which dives 43 feet deep. There are several levels to the building - each with a different function. The top floors house the restaurant, with wonderful dishes from all over the world (HUGE props to the chef). The bottom cellar is where the well is located (right next to a gorgeous bar). And then the floors in between are a cocktail bar and beer/bar stall area. You can rent out different locations of the restaurant for business meetings, workshops, celebrations and more. Okay now onto the restaurant. What a treat! PLAU offers brunch, lunch, and dinner. We went for a late dinner and were blown away. The beer bread butter, king prawns, and duck & squash were my personal favourites, but honestly every dish was lovely. So happy we chose to dine here and can't wait to return!

With a mighty thirst I ordered a vanilla shake and orange juice. Himself a flat white and cappuccino both expertly made. My shake was tasty enough. As for food I felt a good cleanse was in order so I opted for the smashed avocado on beetroot sour dough bread with poached eggs. Himself had hash browns with sausage and bacon. I exclaimed when mine hit the table ...the portion was huge! The eggs were perfect and grilled tomatoes...the bread was a little difficult to saw through and it just needed some cracked black pepper / seasoning. My partners was perfect with superb ingredients such as thick bacon and tasty sausage. Overall the service was pleasant and everything of good portion I personally would try a different dish next time.

Bringing nothing but more North Bar joy to the area, this is a great spot and I'm well chuffed they're a part of this area in town.
