With a mighty thirst I ordered a vanilla shake and orange juice. Himself a flat white and cappuccino both expertly made. My shake was tasty enough. As for food I felt a good cleanse was in order so I opted for the smashed avocado on beetroot sour dough bread with poached eggs. Himself had hash browns with sausage and bacon. I exclaimed when mine hit the table ...the portion was huge! The eggs were perfect and grilled tomatoes...the bread was a little difficult to saw through and it just needed some cracked black pepper / seasoning. My partners was perfect with superb ingredients such as thick bacon and tasty sausage. Overall the service was pleasant and everything of good portion I personally would try a different dish next time.

Whilst the likes of Brooklyn lager will cost you practically a fiver, which is a little more than I like to pay, they still offer a fantastic selection of drinks and the space itself is both large and inviting. The art on the walls is regularly renewed, offering the best in local artistry, and the staff are always full of cheer and chat. I can only hope that the newly opened Meanwood sister bar offers such delights as these! Want to escape the noise of the city? Check in for a coffee. You'll be warmly welcomed. I'm the first!! *waves arms around in a Kermit-style YAAAAAY!*…read more The Victorian Fair is always a great day out in Otley and we took this as an opportunity (because we literally need no excuses) to go and check out this latest incarnation of North Bar right in the centre of the town. Having during the course of the afternoon made friends with a German, a Mexican and a French lady at Whitacker's (there's a joke in there somewhere) we decided North Bar Social would be a great place to show our new compadres some of the best drinking Yorkshire can offer. We were a highly enthusiastic, multi-lingual and already rather toasted crew of newly found drinking buddies and the homely atmosphere in North Bar Social suited us to a tee. Our Bavarian even managed to find a beer from his home town and enthusiastically made us drink it...it tasted of smoked ham. Like drinking smoked ham. It was awful. But at least it made him laugh to watch us. I suspect he had planned this all along. The lighting upstairs was a little bright and the wooden seats could have done with some cushions but these are mere environmental trifles that any new bar can sort out as feedback pours in. North Bar Social was a great way to while away a Saturday night with their vast and dazzling array of drinks, absolutely superb bar man whose service and smile were impeccable and perfect ambience entirely suited to making new friends. As Rockies is on the…read morefirst floor, Bar 50 Fifty is located on the floor below, and market's itself as a different entity to Rockies upstairs, although I'm not sure if they're individual businesses. They're open at different times, so I'll write about them differently. Bar 50 Fifty is the grown up version, that's already established, but it's the layout that amuses me. It's set out like an actual ski lodge. The mock lodge comes complete with stone fireplaces and moose antlers and lots of wood panelling. There's a choice of seating, wooden tables and chairs, bar stools, or big comfy leather seats. Depending on what night you go, you can catch the footy match on the big screen, or enjoy local live music. Hit the bar up on a weekend and there's a house DJ playing popular music for you to bop along to. All in all a good place to end your ski day, or a place to just drive out to and enjoy the experience.
