We have eaten here before for light lunches, sandwiches in the summer. Had our 2 dogs with us so sat outside on the picnic benches. Heard the kitchen had been extended and they were doing more regular meals & we kept meaning to go & sample. We had a rare midweek day off together & decided to telephone & see if they were doing lunch. They said they were, so we asked if we could bring our 2 well behaved dogs in the bar area as it was raining. We were initially advised that yes they accepted dogs in the bar area but then we heard who we presume was the landlord in the back ground asking what type of dogs they were. My partner said they are boxers, well behaved & we have been before with them but sat outside. The landlord came back that they have had issues with that breed before & don't really want them in the pub. Now I'm sorry, but firstly you either accept dogs in your pub or you don't, you can't discriminate between breeds or different sizes of dog. Secondly, if an owner says their dog is well behaved, then you really should take their word for it & if the dog isn't well behaved then ask the owner to take it outside. Needless to say, I won't be visiting this pub again, either with or without my dogs, very rude reception & let's hope this landlord isn't as picky about what customers he lets in his pub, on what I would imagine would have been a very quite tues lunch time anyway. Instead, we went to the gold cup at low catton, who aren't fussy what size & breed your dog is as long as its well behaved, and well behaved they were as they always are. There was about 20 other patrons in the pub & my 2 boxers sat quietly next to our table while we enjoyed a lovely meal. Take a leaf goodmanham arms. read more
