As with all the taps, they have a fantastic mix of UK breweries and American craft, Belgian and European brews - plus a bottle menu with beers ranging from a few quid to some very special ones (hello Hopping Frog at £18 and unfortunately not in my price range!) I had an amazing Tiny Rebel/Dark Star collaboration with my wife enjoying a Belgian fruit beer - we were both very very happy with our choices! The actual venue is pretty cool and just the sort of place you want to hangout in, with a clientele of all ages into good quality hoppy stuff! Special mention has to go to the amazing pork pies on sale - £2.50 a pop and from the excellent Elite meats. Mine was amazing and made even better by having 'Sierra Nevada Mustard' served with it - mega yum! Basically Harrogate Tap is a great excuse to miss the train - make sure you check it out if you're into beer, you won't regret it!

I also thoroughly enjoyed the ice cool Cider it was made by the people of Cornwall who 'Aaaargh' renowned for making it. but I believe they've stopped selling Cornish pasties due to massive cost increases.....apparently the Cornish 'Pie-Rates' have gone through roof. PS - A special thank you to Alan for all his help in making our visit such a pleasure. John Taggart

While waiting for my meal I enjoyed two excellent local ales. When the food arrived to my table it was perfectly prepared. The chicken curry was well-worth the visit and my fiance enjoyed her scampi. This is steeped in history. In fact the premises were rebuilt in 1827 so you know we're talking real age here. You'll find interesting features and fittings from the Victorian era, including traditional gas lighting and cigar lighters. This is Jack the Ripper stuff only without the brutal murders. It's housed in a beautiful looking building and doesn't belie what features inside. The food doesn't disappoint either and a lot of people plump for the pie. It's how pies should be. You can grab a snack or a sandwich though without a problem. The beer is also up to scratch and they are regularly featured in the good beer guide. Enough said. It's like stepping back into time this gem and a great place to share a Sunday lunch with the family, especially the dad.

I found the beer about 10p per pint more than some other bars in town (mentioning no names) However, if I were to drink 10 pints (and I can't) that would be an extra £1.00. Money well spent I think. Just to be in a nice place with nice people drinking quality beer and fantastic entertainment thrown in too! Give it a go! You won't be dissapointed.

Sounds like a plan Stan but one more quick tipple and whet the old whistle so I pop into Banyan Bar. It's an appealing looking building from outside to in and has the same people behind it as Arc in Headingley. It was also voted best bar in Harrogate in the Harrogate Confidential Awards and it's a boast that it may well deserve some claim to. For starters the food looks immense. One of their signature dishes is the Kobe burger, the worlds most expensive and decadent beef originating in the Kobe region of Japan. These cows are massaged for a stress free life style. Well as stress free as it can be before you become a burger I suppose. They also do buffet menus which offer a variety of wraps, nibbles and sandwiches. All for under a tenner. The wine list is to my liking. Try the Pinot Grigio blush, ideal drink when the sun comes out. As for the cocktails...This town really is no good for my liver. Inventive and tantalising combinations of juices and spirits. Excellent work. Great for socialising, eating and with a beautifully down interior. I just hope I don't get sat next to one of those massaged cows next time I go there.
