While waiting for my meal I enjoyed two excellent local ales. When the food arrived to my table it was perfectly prepared. The chicken curry was well-worth the visit and my fiance enjoyed her scampi. I finished the meal off with some amazing sticky toffee pudding and a cup of espresso. I will be back, for the beer, food, service and atmosphere! This is a hidden gem.

It's a grand building just minutes away from Christ Church and I'm pleased to say it's a real pub. Wholesome food and real cask ales. Indeed, you'll find ample casked ales and all of them are good. Nice selection of other wines and spirits adds to its appeal. If you do want some nourishment the menu is impressive with roasts sitting along side more exotic penne infused with goat's cheese. The price is more than reasonable as well. On a Sunday you can get your full on roast and a starter for under nine pounds. Now that is good value for money for a tasty fill up and little room left for pudding. As for the puddings they do have an enticing naughty board. Maybe your eyes are bigger than your stomach though. The Empress did indeed impress.

I've not sampled the food but they seem to tick all of the boxes that you expect in an independent local pub. Not the biggest place in the world, it can sometimes be a bit tricky to get a seat, but it's worth waiting for. There are several beers and ciders on tap, but the best thing is the huge selection of bottled beer and cider that are situated in fridges with a help yourself service. You just pick the bottles you want out of the fridge, and take them to the bar to be opened, or alternatively you can take them home. Such a nice ambience, and with the motto of fiercely independent, it's a must visit for tourists and locals alike (and worth the 10 minute walk from the town centre).

It's an appealing looking building from outside to in and has the same people behind it as Arc in Headingley. It was also voted best bar in Harrogate in the Harrogate Confidential Awards and it's a boast that it may well deserve some claim to. For starters the food looks immense. One of their signature dishes is the Kobe burger, the worlds most expensive and decadent beef originating in the Kobe region of Japan. These cows are massaged for a stress free life style. Well as stress free as it can be before you become a burger I suppose. They also do buffet menus which offer a variety of wraps, nibbles and sandwiches. All for under a tenner. The wine list is to my liking. Try the Pinot Grigio blush, ideal drink when the sun comes out. As for the cocktails...This town really is no good for my liver. Inventive and tantalising combinations of juices and spirits. Excellent work. Great for socialising, eating and with a beautifully down interior. I just hope I don't get sat next to one of those massaged cows next time I go there.

I passed this place and noticed the long set of taps at the bar and had to stop to check it out first. Man I'm glad I popped in... Incredibly friendly staff, great open ambience, and even more fantastic beers. I had a cask stout, and two damned good british-made American style IPAs. Fantastic selection, and especially for yorkshire. I'll be back (insert Arnold voice)

They carry a large selection of great beers on tap and you must try the local ones from Theakstons Brewery... I loved their Best Bitter and their Old Peculier (yep - that's the right spelling). Decent pub food (sorry... "bar" food). Excellent fish and chips (tons of french fries)... super hot chili (on top of a mound of fries) and also had a decent chicken burger - with a huge side of fries... The place gets packed right at the end of the work day with locals and visitors... diverse mixed crowd (both suits and construction workers). Some nice tables to sit outside if the weather allows it...

Now this is grand to the extreme. This mother is one stylish player with decadent furnishings and a sophisticated feel. What's more you get tables that light up, built in ice buckets and a real baby grand piano. To make me even giddier, they do fizz by the glass. Is this place for real? You don't even have to move because a delightful hostess will see to your every need (within reason). The drinks list is awesome too. If money is no object then go for a deluxe Champagne. Or try one of the zillion or so cocktails that will blow you away. If you want aged rums, no problem. Plus, you'll find some of the finest cognacs. James Bond wouldn't look out of place here. The food isn't bad either but I'm singing this little babies praises for some serious drinking action. Make sure the credit card isn't maxed out though; you'll need every penny you can muster. Extreme to every level but marvellous if costly.
