As for the music you'll find house and r n b on a Saturday. All mixed together by the in house DJs. Just a tip here to one said DJ, maybe DJ Lawrence James isn't the most catchy signature tag. Just a thought. If you want to come throughout the week though, they have ample nights of bedlam and musical highs. Tuesdays are Geek Chic night with the aptly named DJ Trev at the helm for some Indie themed inspiration. There's no defined indie/electro/dubstep or any niche nights of note on a weekend. Harrogate isn't specialist. Moko Lounge, mind, is open till six in the morning on a weekend. And that, for those of us who have the stamina to dance, literally, all night long; it truly is a very special place. It's strange walking out of a club and seeing people go to work though, really strange. Drinks aren't cheap but the barmen are all skilful, flaring left, right and centre and concocting thirst-quenching mouth-wateringly good cocktails. At a price. In the girls toilets, there's straighteners which made the night of the girls I was on the town with. Give me a toilet attendant who's got Chupa-Chups over straighteners any day, though.

It was whilst on one of these walks I discovered Reflexion Shisha Lounge. The lounge is extremely well run and the interior is immaculate. A posher version of Rusholme's Shisha cafe offerings is how I'd probably describe it. The Scene Indian kitchen shisha terrace probably gives it a run for its money but I think Reflexion wins out, just! The quality of the shisha is very good and despite it being a tad more expensive, given the waterside views is worthwhile. As well as Shisha they also have an extensive F&B menu although it's diffficult to see anyone venturing here for that alone if you're not into shisha. This place has definately given me more of a reason to explore what this locale has to offer.

At this point you'd be forgiven for thinking that I hate The Sky Lounge. The truth is that if it wasn't for the drinks I honestly would, but the cocktails here are amazing - with the Mojito and French Martini's being amongst the best I've had in Leeds... and probably much further afield than that too. Arrive early, avoid any staff that you don't absolutely have to talk to in order to be served, and be prepared to wait for your drinks to be made... then sit back, relax and enjoy!

So, when at the conclusion of a late dinner (catching up with an old school friend) a few weeks ago the subject of Shisha came up, I didn't need too much convincing, After an unsuccessful venture into Buddha bar around 12:30am when they'd run out of Shishas (odd?) we decided to head to Manchester's Shisha capital (Rusholme) The quality of the various Shisha bars along the Curry Mile has gone up exponentially since the seedy looking haunts that started popping up over a decade ago. It's difficult to miss 360 Lounge as you walk along Wilmslow road past Beirut, the bright green lights along the side wall are impossible to miss. A shisha and coffee came to a reasonable £15 between the three of us and there was plenty to go around. The atmosphere was relaxed and the crowd was pleasent. If Zouk is closed, don't be shy venturing to these parts for Shisha.

For those like me I'd recommend the cherry bourbon with coke.. or there's a really good cocktail which I think is called Jumping Jack Flash (or something similar!). It's one of those places that is bound to become really popular, so take advantage of the quieter times here before everyone finds out how good it is!

This is another place that is somewhat hidden away and I am really glad we came here. The cocktails were amazing. I really wish I had written them down or attached the names to the pictures when I took them. But being in a boozy haze has made me forget them. This is not a bad thing as it gives me the perfect excuse to go back!! The only downside that could see was that the bar man was, for whatever reason, not in a good mood. I never saw him smile once. I am sure that he even shook his head when I placed my last drink order. He was on his own and was having to work very fast in order to keep the drinks flowing. That is the reason I haven't given it 5 stars, but anyone can have an off night.

Dance off saw a battle between three major DJs, strangerways, good vibrations and juicy DJs playing a mix of Joy Division, The Temptations and Dr Dre. Amazing combination. Ruby Lounge is renown for it's quality club nights and live music. The venue is perfect, with an adequate dance floor, a stage to match and plenty of seating on a slightly raised level for a chill out. Another great Northern Quarter location that needs to become a regular thing for me.

The gig was billed as The Cribs Aftershow but it was basically just a gig- most of the spectators were either in one of the four bands, looked like they should be or were girl groupies who were way too impressed with themselves that they were getting backstage. The sofas and high backed armchairs in the main bar area were nice touches, there were a few mirror balls around too. Plus velvet curtains - hello, strip club? Then you turn to the grimy stage area with the big grill up between the bands and the crowd. That said, no one went past the pillar anyway. Too cool to stand right at the front. Alright drinks prices - get some of their cheap vodka mixers or flavoured sambucas otherwise you'll run out of money quickly. After the bands they had Gareth Brooks from Xfm DJIng but we didn't end up staying.
