The building is out of this world. It's a grand affair and dates back to the mid to late nineteenth century. You'll be impressed as soon as you see it from the outside. That's always a good start. Once you're in, it doesn't disappoint. I'm in love with the huge roaring real fire and could quite happily stay there for hours on end. The service is fantastic too and it's a great atmosphere in a beautiful building. As for the food, well it's good old decent stuff and the price is more than reasonable. I wouldn't say it's out of this world, unlike the location, but that's mainly because it belongs to a chain. You've got real ales to sink into as well and a fab wine list. You know I love my wine and this doesn't disappoint. All in all this is one pub that you really must get to. Is that clear enough for you. Brilliant.

It's your typical Yorkshire pub serving a lovely pint of Tetleys, one of my favourites (Leeds Pale) and a couple of guest beers. The landlord is a great bloke and will always try to answer any request - despite the sometimes bemused look on his face ("Hot water and lemon slices, erm, straight away sir") I haven't tried the food but the portions look generous. My favourite time in The Barge is late summers evening, out the back in the beer garden, watching the canal drift by. It's a great place, the locals are all friendly and despite the fact that they ALL seem to know each other the atmosphere is very welcoming.

The pub has a bar area and a restaurant area - we only ever went into the bar as you could eat int here and it was really cosy (dogs are also allowed!). The staff were incredibly friendly and chatty (lets face it, Yorkshire, particularly North Yorkshire folk are possibly the most friendly on the planet - i challenge you to disprove this!). The food was INCREDIBLE. Nothing fancy pants, just really good food, VERY big portions (trust me on this, you dont need three courses - choose your weapon of starter or dessert to go alongside your main - we made the mistake one night and 1) couldnt eat it all and 2)pretty much rolled home). We spent an evening in the pub, had a meal and then sat playing card games - we felt incredibly welcome. So welcome that we ended up visiting three times in a week long holiday. For a start it's a nice building and is done out well. The reason I like it though is because it's got quite a bit to offer. They are really doing their bit for the local and underground music scene and still have live gigs on most weekends. That has to be commended so I am. You'll get everything from blues to folk. Worth a punt even if the genre isn't essentially your thing. Next up the beer is good. Oh yes, we're talking good casks and local too. Fancy a sip from a Leeds, Skipton, Sheffield, York, Ossett or Saltaire brewer? Then no problemo, my amigo. You'll also find Tetley's and John Smiths too. Aint half bad lad. As for the grub, it's proper pub food here. We're talking roasts, burgers and lighter bites at lunch too. Never going to win prizes for originality but you've gotta love some pub food as it should be at times. Don't be fooled, this is a pub. It's not a bar but we like it for it.

The worst bar I have ever been in! The most unfriendly staff... mainly a blonde haired middle aged…read morewoman with a serious attitude problem! Me and my friend had an accident while we were in there and it wasn't our fault. She didn't even ask if we were ok, she didn't witness the accident and said that there was no cctv, yet she still wrote an accident report without even asking us what had happened! (probably because she was worried that we'd put a claim in) when we asked for her name she wouldn't give it. Apart from that, the floors were sticky and the benches were filthy.
