If you'd gone in a couple of years ago on a Friday night, you would have found a bustling lively lounge full of young professionals and people who prefer to stay in Horsforth rather than venture to the town centre enjoying themselves in the company of a wide selection of booze and some nice music. Go in tonight, however, and it's likely to be a rather empty place with a flat atmosphere and some grumpy bar staff. This is partly due to the adjacent Kobe's popularity, but more to do with the fact that this dog has, unfortunately, had its day.

Well as a name goes I'm not too keen on anywhere that has to call themselves a style bar. However, I will make an exception in this case. Now let's get down to business. Booze! This is after all why I frequent the majority of places in my life. Maybe not the doctors or gym though! Well no grumbles on this front. If you want cocktails, go forth and feel the love. There are quite simply loads of them for you to work your way through. Classics such as a Bloody Mary and Daiquiris right along to the baby cocktails and creamy concoctions. Plus the price isn't going to scare you off too. Very reasonable they are but I guess that's what you get for daring to explore outside the heart of the city. Finally, the bistro serves up some good grub too so you have something to line that stomach before a night of over indulgence.

Ok so I think may need to remortgage the house if I was to hangout here every day but as a special treat (or weekly indulgence to enjoy life ;-)) it's worth it. We went for the oak and rare flights with 3 glasses each for less than £20 each - perfect for an aperitif before dinner next door at Norse. The staff were super friendly, professional and knowledgable. At first I did think this is the worst name I'd ever heard for a place since Ned Flanders 'Leftorium' - but it really grew on me the more I've thought about it. Maybe because the experience was so nice and chilled out - it could be called anything!

Everyone also knows that I'm a cheapskate but I thought the tasting flights were super reasonable and very generous at £12 for 3. I was also really impressed at the shop bottle prices which for 'exclusive grower champagne' were much less than I thought for such a unique product...I will be heading back to sample some more next time I'm up north although I think there is an online shop now too...hmmm options!

It's a classic real ale pub with a firm live music policy, and although the seating is extremely modest, that doesn't stop folk from packing in here on a Wednesday or Friday night to sink a few pints and soak in the sounds. The staff have always been fantastic and the drinks were alway reasonably cheap. They've a small array of outside seating and being located so close to the train station it's an ideal spot for those hoping to indulge in a few before catching the last train back to Leeds, as I always was, or those looking for a decent pint after stepping off the train. Although the pub isn't managed by the same folk as when I used to frequent here, it seems like it's still a prime spot for those after a more low-key and friendly atmosphere. There's not much else to it, except great pints and fabulous music. I'm surely biased as I've always had such a great time here, but I doubt it can have changed that much over the years. Watch out for Peculiar Blue, Dr Blue and The Welsh T Band amongst other solid local favourites!

They have a good selection of ales on, I had the strongest one they had on tap the other week and if I recall it was only about £3, the rest were cheaper than that so pretty decent prices. They only have room for around 7 tables inside and they have a few benches outside for when the weather's nice.

Oh salut! First time…read moreI walked past this a few weeks ago and saw the enomatic through the window I let out a an actual GASP of excitement. Was pretty excited on the night too, so excited I left my card in the wine machine which made me look like a total amateur. It's much more spacious inside than I had realised, and there are also seats and heaters outside with a great view of the nearby row of traditional pubs with the town hall in the background. I enjoyed trying the various wines (the smallest amount is often £2-3 so you can try a good four wines on a £10 card pre-payment) and could even tell that some of them tasted different, so am basically going to be earning my MW in no time. They also do a few little snacks - my fave baba ghanoush and some rather tasty crisps, although the brown olives tasted too sour for me. Tap water came chilled in a delightful glass bottle. Btw I am not sure there are actually other drinks options here, maybe check that before you go. The staff were efficient and welcoming and I am sure I will be back here. A great companion to hanging ditch and Bakerie in terms of our city's wine bar scene.

Although I now work for an independent wine merchant in Didsbury and am considered a bit of a fussy geek by my friends, I have longed for a good wine bar in Manchester pretty much since I arrived in town over 6 years ago, well before wine was a big thing for me. A few places have attempted it, half-heartedly for some, but none had so far succeeded. Then came Salut wines, first baby business of a lovely couple who like me love good wine and thought it deserved proper representation in the City Centre. An ambitious project that was, not without hurdles. But tenacity paid off and behold, a superb, clean, warm and welcoming wine bar where odd ins once was. Enomatic machines a-go-go, 32 wines are available by the glass at any point in (opening) time. That's 16 whites and rosés and 16 reds. Thanks to these machines you can enjoy a vast variety of wines, all of which are way above your house plonk from most pubs/bars/restaurant. And that's not all. 3 measures are available: 50ml, 125ml and 175 ml. The first one is my favourite. I can play to my heart's content and try a lot of wine before it's time to call it a day. Most wines are between £1.20 and £5 for a glass but you can also try some of the fancier stuff that would NEVER be available by the glass otherwise. Risk-free. Whilst they do not cater, a range of nibbles and tapas plates are available and it's perfectly suitable for a light lunch or diner. Cheese, cured meats and Mediterranean veggie plates, all made with very good ingredients. Music is top notch, not your average lounge "elevator" type nor your bass-boosted frenzy. Blues, jazz, pop, electro... To sum-up, great atmosphere, best wine selection in town, excellent service. The bottle prices to take away are on the steep side of I'm honest but I'll put that down as the location.

A nice rustic decor provides a setting for a chilled out jazz bar that serves food and drink in a way that seperates it from the rest of the places in Otley. Having not eaten here, I can't comment on how the food tastes but I did look at the menu and see some being brought out, and started to see why it had won a restaurant award. It looked fab. The drinking experience was quality, however - I'm not a wine man but I did share a bottle from the extensive menu on the advice of the knowledgable staff, and enjoyed it, before getting back on the beer. The tunes were good - not the usual music, which made a welcome change - while the atmosphere was simple electric. Kork's doesn't excite me in a wibbly nipples kind of way but it is a worthy enterprise and perfectly suited for the target clientele. Classy but friendly, not pushing the boat out too far and a very decent bit of nosh for a fairly reasonable price. Just one word of advice, if like me you like straight lines then keep your eyes to the floor. Not a single painting on the wall is straight. Not one. I'm still twitching.
