The first time I went to Sky Lounge was a completely spontaneous evening where a good friend of mine joked about taking me to a 'hotel room party'. Upon entering Mint Hotel I was anticipating the joke to end that we would double back on our selves and hit the center for some more drinks. We endeavored into the lift and to my awe, the lift doors grew apart revealing a 'Hotel Babylon'-esque atmosphere with a hint of 'vip'.
It was a Thursday and it wasn't busy, around 15 people and 3 or 4 staff. But this was perfect, its not a very big place so it still had its buzz of conversation in the background, when harmonized with the warm chillout music, Martini Rosso in-hand, and a fantastic sky-rise view of the city, I can happily say 'I had a moment'.
The night was a fantastic success, I couldn't wait to show it off to other friends. The following weekend I arranged a surprise double date, where I planned to take them there for pre-drinks before going to Wasabi Teppan-Yaki which is conveniently situated just over the street from the hotel. When we arrived at the hotel, they all had the same excitement and nervousness that I anticipated, accompanied by the same shock-awe upon entry. It was a Saturday evening, and on this night so most of the tables and seating had been reserved - which never entered my mind to do. So we found ourselves perched on the bar for about 20 minutes before we moved onto a vacant table, and again, the night was a worry-free & memorable event.
To summarize, Sky Lounge is a fantastic choice for setting and scene. If you want cheap drinks, go to spoons. If you want to have a really good night, with a partner, or a small group of friends, this place has all the ingredients needed, the rest is down to your approach - conversationally & mentally. read more
