There's a section where rose bushes are donated by people and it makes for a colorful pop along the walking path. We came on a rainy day but this would be a lovely spot to sit and spend more time when the weather is better. Every winter, the plaza in front of…read morethe Rathaus turns into a giant ice skating track, complete with lockers, toilets, food stands and a warming house. Plywood is laid down over the whole area so skaters can come off the ice and grab a gluhwein or a snack. The atmosphere is festive - they've got music playing and people seemed to be having a great time. Skating is fairly reasonable at EUR $6.50, and they'll rent you skates if you need them. There are a few large "open" areas for skating as well as a long track that winds in and out of the grounds. Though I wasn't in the mood to skate, I absolutely enjoyed watching everyone from small children to seniors go 'round the track. Because it was a chilly day, I also really enjoyed their gluhwein - it was quite a generous mug of tasty hot wine for EUR $4. The Mister had a currywurst which he really liked too. Also available for non-skaters is a carnival ride that takes you up 100' or so to get a great view of the track or the city. If you're visiting during the winter months, the Eistraum is definitely worth a stop!

The first floor space is pretty enclosed and seems to amplify any noise. I visited with my mother who is in her late 70s. We didn't know it, but because she was in a motorized wheelchair, she got reduced admission, and I got in free as her caretaker, great bonus! But it was ROUGH on the first floor. So many kids and I don't know why, but it seemed like all of them were screaming at once. We decided to jump ship and go straight to the top floor and work our way down and that was a great idea. It was actually a calm enough environment that we could enjoy ourselves. Plus, the views from the top floors of the city of Vienna are incredible. The building itself is really interesting architecture with a very abstract shape. It's not just an aquarium, although there are several floors and exhibits dedicated to marine life. They had all kinds of animals! There was an area on the top floor that was like a giant wraparound birdcage that you could walk through and 100s of parakeets were flying all around us. We saw a giant turtles, lemurs, all types of lizards, sharks, eels etc. My favorite exhibit was definitely a three floor area that was like a walk-in monkey exhibit. There were several types of monkeys and they ran all around you! You've got to be aware, though, if you try to stand under a monkey and take a selfie, it might pee on you- I actually saw it happen! I get that this is a great place to bring kids but dang these people seem like they had no boundaries and they were just all going crazy. That being said, I think it's worth a visit but my recommendation would be to visit on one of the earlier weekdays, not towards the weekend. Hopefully it wouldn't be as crowded.
