Takes well over 48 hours to get a return phone call or email. Nobody answers the phone at the kennels which is concerning if you have a pet staying with them. We had a reservation in October of '23 that I opted to cancel as my dog had a suspected case of bordatella and I wanted to be responsible and not get other dogs sick. At that point I was offered a refund for my deposit and I opted to keep it as a credit as I assumed we would use them again in the future. However, booking is a challenge as the lag time for response is far longer than the 'one business day' promised on their voice mail. Twice I have reached out and both times didn't receive a timely enough response (48+ hours). I needed boarding confirmation in order to book travel, so I went with a different facility. This week I asked for the deposit to be refunded as I don't foresee myself using this facility again and was told that since it was paid last year it would have to be kept on file as a credit. Nowhere in the contract does it state anything to that effect, nor was I made aware of that term in October. I've given 3 stars out of fairness as I think the concept is good and the facilities are nice. Lots of playtime and exercise. It's a shame about the lack of communication and shady financial dealings. read more

Our usual pet sitter couldn't take our Golden Retriever over the Memorial Day weekend, so he suggested that we take our dog to Wickersham's K-9 Ranch. The rates were reasonable and the website looked great, so we called to make an appointment for her drop off. My husband reported that they were very friendly when he called, and that we were welcome to drop her off and tour the facilities so we could get a sense of where she'd be spending the next week or so. We were excited to visit the ranch when we dropped off Ella. It was a good 70 minute drive out there, and when we arrived around 9:30, we received a very cool, aloof greeting from the fellow behind the desk. In fact, he didn't even speak to us or acknowledge us - another woman came out and helped us after a few minutes. She seemed surprised that we wanted to look around the facility, but obliged with a quick 2 minute tour. I wasn't terribly certain about the artificially dyed blue water in the lake, but the facilities are definitely clean, each dog gets a spacious space to sleep with an elevated bed and the dogs seemed very, very happy. Any misgivings I might have had when we visited were abated, however, when they dropped Ella off at our house after her stay. We decided to pay extra for drop-off (to save the 70 minute drive after our long trip) and we paid extra to have her bathed prior to drop-off, which isn't an option with some other places where we've boarded Ella. Ella showed up happy and exhausted, and smelling fantastic. In fact, a WEEK LATER she still smells good. I don't know what magic they worked in that bath, but it was a good one! And best of all, they dropped off some pictures of Ella's stay at what we are calling "camp". She loved swimming (usually an extra charge, but she got it for free as a trial since it was our first visit). Yesterday we received a fourth photo in the mail that they hadn't been able to include with the others, of Ella and a bunch of other dogs running. It was great to see photos of her having so much fun while we were away. I definitely recommend Wickersham's K-9 Ranch as a place to board your pet while out of town. It can be costly if you add in pickup/drop off charges and a bath, but your dog will have fun. It was a splurge for us, but one we'll likely indulge Ella in again on our next long trip! read more

I have been working to catch up on reviews that I have intended to write and realized that I never wrote a review for one of my favorite gems. If you in South Charlotte and are looking for a place to send your large, non-aggressive, and playful dogs (a.k.a Labs, Settlers, Goldens among others), this is dog heaven. My wife and I have been sending our dogs to the ranch for most of our fifteen years in Charlotte (we currently have two golden retrievers... three counting our son's). In the beginning we would drive the 70 miles round trip to have comfort in that our dogs were well taken care of. Now we consistently pay the equivalent of another day for the pick up and drop off services (or use the occasional coupons that we find for free pickup and delivery)! Now the good stuff... Every dog needs to be viewed and approved by the owners in the ranch setting before being boarded. The bottom line is that you know that your pets are not going to be chewed on or harassed by an aggressive animal. In our time sending our dogs to the ranch, there have been zero incidents. Look at the movies on the web site and you really do see an accurate view of the atmosphere at the ranch. The kennels are the cleanest and nicest that we have seen in our continued search for a backup place to board our dogs. Any time that we have had to go elsewhere because of last minute availability or we were feeling financially pinched and wanted to save on the pickup and drop off costs, we have ended up returning to the ranch. I agree with the other reviewer that at first glance the blue water was concerning. The way that it was explained to me was that they were chemicals designed for the purpose that were added to the water to keep the dogs safe much like chlorine in a pool. I can say that in all of the years of our dogs enjoying an occasional swim that they have never had infection or illness from going in the water. All in all the measure is in how your pets are returned to your home. If they are healthy, calm, and tired then your choice for where to board your dogs is a good one. Our dogs have come to recognize the ranch staff and bus, appear to be "excited" to go to the ranch, and clearly come back tired. We don't expect to change our choice anytime soon. read more

Was appalled to get a notification today (6/29/2021) that there was a new comment from the owner on my review posted 7 years ago. I posted that my dog came back from a stay with raw paws that caused limping and a red itchy belly that was not acknowledged nor seemed concerning to anyone working there. He refutes saying some callous comments which is technically true-HE WROTE THEM IN AN EMAIL. His response to the review today started with "LOL" and stated that we need help (you know, for being upset at our dog's poor condition). So glad to know that the owner is still the exact same person we thought he was SEVEN years ago. Please take this in consideration when giving this man your business. Good morning! I have been taking my dog since 4 months old to Wickersham's K-9 Ranch for boarding. The staff is incredible. Now my pup (Dogue de Bordeaux) is 11 months old and had become a little tough to handle around strangers. We live on a large property and don't see strangers much. We have 2 kids under 8 and he is a dream around them but around others he goes crazy. I opted for the 10 day board and Train Basic Obedience program with Greg. What a change! Marked difference and great experience. They spent 1 hour with me after for a comprehensive handover and I am continuing at home. Really pleased with the methodology and is repeatable on my own. I will be signing him up for the Citizenship program next! read more

We have trusted our 4 golden doodles for over 10 years and Keith and team do an outstanding job of caring for them. When the van pulls up to our house the dogs are so excited to go straight into the van, tails wagging. Recently had our Britney Spaniel picked-up at our home for 5 day stay. We have used many dog boarding places and this was first time our dog came back sad--sad because it wanted to stay!!! The place is a doggie wonderland. They do a great job of keeping dogs active and happy. Staff was very communicative and flexible. Would highly recommend! Our dog, Oliver, simply loves staying at the K-9 Ranch. From the moment our car hits the gravel, he is at the window, tail wagging and tongue out. And, the feeling is mutual. The team at K-9 dole out the love on Oliver, too -- from endless rounds of ball to swimming, running and more. We call the K-9 Ranch doggy camp because he has just as much fun there as the kids do at their summer camps. (He comes back tired and happy, just like the kids, too!) Met the owner and he automatically made a concerned face at my dog which was acting completely normal. Then proceeded to insist just because of the breed of dog I had that he was an aggressive animal and didn't trust him. I could understand that if my dog was being aggressive or barking or lunging at others. But my dog was just sitting there being pet my kids, wagging his tail and licking them. There are not bad breeds of dogs, just bad people that raise them. You shouldn't judge an animal before know it. read more

The drivers of their vehicles are always on their phones while driving and go 10-15 mph under the speed limit. I've happened to get stuck behind them multiple times. They are putting people and the dogs in danger by not paying attention to the road. GET OFF OF YOUR PHONES! read more

This facility lost a 120lb Mastiff in July and it has not yet been recovered. Someone left the door open and the dog wandered out into the woods. I would not use this facility. read more

We have been bringing our dog here since 2008. It is such a wonderful place for dogs to be when you need to be away. Our dog Rosie is excited when we drive in on the gravel driveway! She knows she will have fun being just a dog with other dogs for a few days. We love this great hidden gem of a place for dogs. I almost hate letting anyone know about it but I hope other dogs will have the great experience ours has had here. read more

This place is absolutely heaven! The staff is professional and the facilities are immaculate. We have boarded both our Golden Retrievers here. Our first was not much of a "social" dog and Keith and the staff at Wickershams always took extra special care of our "old man" and were very accommodating to his special personality. Our latest "pup" is more gregarious and absolutely LOVES "going to camp". I recommend the pick-up and delivery service and I can't find the words to express our praise and admiration for all of Wickersham's staff. They are top notch! read more

Club Med for dogs! Our dog spent 2 weeks at Wickershams last summer and we could not have been more happy. We brought her with us for a visit first and they let her try out all the various play yards including the swim area. The play yards are huge, grassy and shaded. There are toys, and baby pools to cool off. Our dog doesn't like swimming but if you have a water obsessed retriever they would be in heaven. They have a enclosed small lake (swimming is an extra charge I believe). We watched a group of dogs dive in to chase a ball and they looked like they were having the time of their life. When we dropped her off they didn't blink an eye at her bag of toys and blanket. Giving her medicine was also no problem and no extra charge. We used the drop off service to get her home and she was dropped off with all her goodies. There were even two cute digital pictures of her "vacation" tucked in the bag. I thought Wickershams was worth every penny to have such a happy, healthy dog when I returned from vacation. read more

I'm not real sure what to say about this place. I researched all the kennels around the area and Charlotte to find what I thought would be the best fit for my dog. This is one my vet recommended and after calling and asking questions I settled on placing my pet here. We have a 14 year old collie that has arthritis in her back paws. I explained all this to the owner and her feeding schdule as well. All seemed well as I left her in their care. I had also explained we would be on a cruise so would be out of touch most of the time. 3 days later they called us about 10 minutes after we stepped into our stateroom and the people were pulling up the gangplanks. Keith went on to explain to us that our dog was at deaths door and we needed to have someone come pick her up as he felt she would do better in a home environment. Ummm, there was no way we were going to be allowed off the boat at this point and during the next 30 minutes, in the middle of doing the lifeboat run through no less, we were left scrambling trying to find someone to pick her up and what to do care wise for her. We were new to the area and did not really know anyone. We called our parents, one of whom was just out of surgery and left it that they would pick her up the next day. 5 days at sea with no way to really call and get word on our dog. We got to dock and immediately called up the ranch only to find out she was still there and still in very and condition so we decided to drive straight home all the way from Flordia and cut the rest of the vacation short (and lose a deposit for a nights stay). After 10 long hours of driving we arrived at the ranch. I was steered directly to the payment office before I was allowed to see my dog. Once I paid I was taken over to another area that they had moved her too. I had made a point of asking for a run with no window since she is severly afraid of lighting but there she was in a kennel with a window. She was just a heap of fur on the floor, her paws were splayed out in all directions and she did not seem to know us. She could not stand or walk and we had to carry her out to the car. We were told this was the condition she was in the entire time and she wouldn't eat except for the salmon they gave her (a pound and a half he told me over the course of a week, that's it! She eats that in a day). He had put down carpet for her to get her footing when they took her out but when we got to her she was unable to even get up. To me she appeared drugged. They had given her some pill the vet had given them for their Golden's arthritis (a Golden is much larger then my 39 pound collie). We drove the hour back to the house all in tears (what a great end to a vacation). Once home I opened her bag to discover they had only used one days worth of food I had sent. Wouldn't you at least try more then one day to get her to eat? I'll give them 2 stars, only because I'm not sure what communication went on between my in laws and Keith. They said he told them she was doing better but each time I talked to him she was in dire straights. I wouldn't bother even reviewing this place but it upset me so much that someone would leave an animal in this condition that I couldn't leave it be. The last thing he said to me was that he didn't see any need to call the vet. My poor dog was starving and ate an entire bowl of chicken when she got home. By the next day she was up and walking around, wobbly but up and about. It did seem to cause some permanant damage to her muscle strength and she still stumbles a bit but she was getting a little weak before we left but not like she is now or we would not have left her. I expected her to be out all day in the grass where she could walk around not left all day inside on the cement floor where she could not take it. The other main point is I left her in there care so we could enjoy vacation and the entire trip was ruined as were had no idea if our dog was alive or dead. If you have a young, active dog this may be the place to go but if your dog if over the age of 5 I'd beware read more
