I called initially and was unable to get anyone on the phone so the company that referred us contacted Alan to contact me then things got moving. Alan came out to measure the area and give us a quote. We were able to pick the color that we wanted. They were booked out for about a month but we decided to go with them as they were the best quote we had received. Once we got started it took about 2 days to complete. The guys doing the work were really good and thorough. The only drawback is that communication really suffered when it came to trying to get things done in a timely manner with Alan but all in all we are happy with our patio cover. read more

I recently hired Bruce Wickens Construction to tear off my mobile home's old front porch and sunroom and completely rebuild them from the ground up. They estimated the job to take 10 working days, and finished in 9 and a half. They washed every window, used a special cleaner that left the new Trex decking immaculate, and vacuumed up every bit of metal shaving and other debris, even offering to cart away some old metal fence posts that the fence company left behind. Steve and his crew were professional, courteous, and left the job site spotless at the end of every work day. The quality of the workmanship is impeccable, and I am ecstatic with the finished product. Sales manager Bruce Palestini checked in several times throughout the project, to make sure things were on track and that I was satisfied with both the progress and the workmanship. Alan came by to give me a quote for an insulated patio cover. 20ft x 13ft., 4 LED lights, an outdoor ceiling fan, with a corbel cut on the rafter tails. I decided to go with Wickens Construction because they put up a non-insulated patio cover for my neighbor's house 5 years ago and the finished product came out great. Hector and his coworker started on a Thursday and completed the patio by Friday. I must say, Hector does good work. I hired Wickens Construction in July 2018 to remodel the bathroom in my small mobile home. This involved removing the old bathtub, toilet, and vinyl flooring, and replacing with upgraded bath tub, bath surround and handicapped toilet. Wickens had done previous remodel work for me in 2011, and I felt that I could trust them with this job. My mistake! I am a senior citizen, on a limited budget, and am most unhappy with the subsequent result, which was that the toilet leaked, and the underfloor and vinyl were damaged due to their negligence in not installing a proper seal between the toilet and floor. It was a slow leak, and took a few years to manifest the damage, which was discovered on an inspection of my home prior to its sale. In July 2021 contacted Wickens estimator Bruce Palestini to give me a bid of what it would take to repair the damage, at the time not realizing it was their error that caused it. He quoted me $4100 for the job. My realtor suggested I use her handyman, George, for the job. He took out the toilet on October 27, 2021, and found that that the seal described above was missing, and the subfloor had also been damaged by dry rot. In addition, two pieces of bracing underneath had been tied together with a flimsy metal plate, allowing the floor to subside underneath. I reported this to Bruce Wickens, who became very defensive and swore that his people would not have messed up, and I realized he was not going to discuss this with me with any respect. My late husband and I were in the building trade for 10 years, so I know what I am talking about. So George documented everything, as seen in the photos below. It took 3 him three days, as we had to allow the floor to dry, and the reconstruction of the framing under the toilet and bracing to be done, as well as new vinyl flooring installed by a flooring contractor. His fee for the total job was only $1800! On November 2, 2021 I requested that Bruce Wickens pay me this amount, plus a prorated refund of $1500 from the previous job, for a total of $3300. I gave him a full week, until November 9, to do so. As of today, November 12, I have not had a reply or seen a check. I am also reporting him to the Contractor's Licensing Board, and letting my friends and neighbors know not to use the services of Wickens Construction. I feel that his lack of response is clearly Elder Abuse is NOT acceptable! read more

Also after final install and walk thru of finished job the top of roof had multiple dents in it. Now while obviously no one can see from below, we can see out our master window and loft windows. I own a mobile home on a large corner lot. Bruce Palestini came to my home for 2 things. I wanted Wicken's to level my house & put a new awning above my front porch. He passed on the leveling job right away and referred me to Fred Blum of Pacific Bracing. Fred came out amazing guy, explains everything in detail. I not only had my house leveled I also had them put earthquake bracing after the leveling job. They had to custom make a few brackets which only took them a few days. The two brothers that did the job were polite, accommodating and very hard workers. Great team working for Pacific Bracing for 25 years. I can't say enough good words for Pacific Bracing. On that note something good did happen by meeting with Bruce Palestini who covers the Northbay area. I want to add Bruce Palestini was always nice never rude. But I can not say the same for the owner Bruce Wicken's. Wicken's passed on the leveling but committed to the awning job. I signed a contract on April 12 ,2021 the total was $8,245.00, I gave him a $820.00 deposit which they charged right away after Bruce P stopped by a second time. It was an insulated awning over hang, no sides this was not a screened in porch. Got a date for them to do a 2 day job starting July 19, 2021. I was asked to clear out the driveway prior.. no problem. Ask us to do something and we are on it we are responsible people. We have 4 cars, I was able to borrow 3 neighbors driveways for a few days got that squared away. I was also asked to remove everything off the front porch. My porch is long, we have countless ceramic pots with plants some very heavy some are not. We have furniture, other decorative pieces, all metal deco attached to the walls of the front porch were removed, matts and a lot of misc. We moved many even heavier ceramic pots with plants that were not on the porch that could be where ladders may need to be. I removed anything that could get dusty or get debris on it from the tear down. It was a big job on our behalf but more than happy to help. July 19 comes the job was stopped before it started. Bruce Wicken's owner told crew to go home because they noticed the eaves were more like a decorative piece, they were on hinges and nailed. Either way he said it was not stable or strong enough to hold the awning. My first thought why didn't they know this before? Did anyone even get on a ladder to check the awning ? We just went through hours of moving things out from their way, my front and side yards didn't even look the same but I knew it was all going to be worth it in the long run. Bruce Palestini told my bf they had to wait to hear back from the inspector since the new discovery. Today Bruce Wicken's the owner called me about 10:30 a.m. and told me the inspector called him and said it is doable and Bruce the owner told me what they needed to do to make that area strong enough. He said he was doing me a favor there would be an extra charge of $600 (a deal for me he said) even though we had a contract. And the other Bruce never mentioned an additional charge if they had to build that area up as though it was part of the job and what I signed in the contract. But hey I was more than willing because at this point my cars are in others driveways the entire front and sides of my house has been rearranged to accommodate them while they work. My next and very important question was: "when can we start" Immediately the owner Bruce Wicken's demeanor changed. I can hear in his voice he was getting anxious like it was an inconvenience for him to give me a date. I called him on it and I told him his mood shifted and I could hear it in his voice he no longer sounded nice. He proceeded to tell me " I don't really want to to your JOB ANYWAY". I bit my tongue I really wanted to make this happen, but how rude he was. Anyone in my shoes who signed a contract mid April and the job was starting mid July would want to know when they can begin. He told me it would only take 4 hours to do what they needed to do to make it strong enough to hold the awning. I was on board totally excited the inspector gave a go ahead. I asked Bruce if he could explain what he told me to my bf. My bf is a marina technician he was at work he called Bruce less than 2 hours after I talked to him. In that short amount of time Bruce the owner came up with a million other things why they can't do it, they would have to remove the roof, this that. He said none of that to me just a bit ago. He told me the size of wood how long it would take he had it all figured out. He backed out, he said HE DIDN"T WANT TO DO THE JOB ANYWAY. I haven't yet had any work done BUT I'm giving them 5 stars for having a fabulous woman in the office and for calling me back! I've learned the hard way that this is huge! I had another company come out, give me a quote in which I signed and hired him on the spot and can't get him to return my calls to schedule a date to do the work. Three words: WTF? The work was superb. Scott came out to give me my estimate and went over every detail of the project with me. When the work begun he was here everyday to check on the progress. Roland and his crew did the remodeling of the kitchen and bathrooms. He was on top of everything and went above and beyond my expectations. I am so disappointed in Wickens Construction. This was the second time using them. The first time they were wonderful. This time they blew me off. I have called and emailed numerous times and got no response. I asked for an estimate on painting the exterior of our house. It took a week to get a response to all my calls.
