I brought my vehicle in to Whitt's Auto Service Center for an A/C issue and was quoted $1,300 for a compressor replacement. I agreed to the repair based on how the service is described on their website, which states that compressor replacements are typically performed using a kit that includes the compressor, accumulator (drier), and any needed expansion components. After the compressor was installed, the system did not operate correctly. The pressure readings indicated a restriction in the system. During the repair, the accumulator/drier and expansion valve were not replaced. When I raised this concern, I was informed that replacing those components was not part of the original scope of work and was quoted an additional $1,400 to complete those repairs. From my understanding, those components are commonly addressed as part of a complete A/C repair and are also referenced in the service description on the shop's website. Throughout the discussion, I made it clear that I was not trying to avoid paying for the work performed, but rather wanted the repair completed in a way that would result in a properly functioning system. At times, it was difficult to fully communicate my concerns, and there was some disagreement regarding the information I was referencing. I clarified that my understanding was based on the shop's own website. Ultimately, we were unable to come to an agreement on how to proceed. The shop removed the newly installed compressor, reinstalled my original unit, and returned the vehicle to me at no charge. I do appreciate that I was not billed and that the shop was willing to reverse the work. My daughter's Audi battery was dying a slow death. I had it tested elsewhere but knew that Audi computer would not allow just a quick switch out. I called Whitt's on a Tuesday, he ordered the battery, had an appointment for Friday, he kept me updated along the way, and she drove home a couple hours later. David and Mary Whitt run a tight ship, and like on Noah's Ark, you are fortunate if you can be one of the passengers! What I like best is the personal care David extends to his customers. He will sometimes walk me outside to my car to show me what he personally did, or instructed his mechanics to do. He does not make promises he can't keep. We service 4 old cars there. David tells it like it is: if he can get a part or not, if he thinks he can find a solution we can both live with, when he can schedule an appointment when it is not an emergency etc. (And possibly squeeze you in if there IS an emergency. And yes, if you do have an emergency, he will tell you when he can possibly squeeze you in, and even call you earlier if that is an option). I depend on Whitts. I can't say enough good things about his integrity! He keeps computerized records on everything he's ever done to or with your car, which is great for knowing if you still have a warranty or if you need an oil change when your windshield sticker is no longer readable! A good honest mechanic is truly hard to find. Too many fly-by-night shops are looking to make a quick buck on unnecessary repairs. Fool me once, sure, but I'll never return to your shop and I'll tell everyone I know to avoid your place like the plague. I have taken two separate vehicles to Whitt's with specific problems and gotten straightforward answers and pricing. Specialty labor isn't cheap, but it saves you many hours of newbie-style troubleshooting in the driveway and is well worth it in terms of having the job done right the first time with no unnecessary parts purchased. I have had suspension components replaced, mystery engine codes diagnosed, and A/C repairs done at Whitt's with excellent results. After several encounters, in order to be fair and get a good idea about the place, I've decided to write a review. He'll keep getting my money until he gives me a reason not to. read more

I've had great experiences with Whitt's. They really know what they're doing and they're kind people!! My car is always done within a timely manner and I've never had any problems with the work done. As a young female college student, I've been ripped off by auto shops before, but I've never worried about that with Whitt's. Ridiculous service. Very rude people. Both their office and service area are old and stinky. I had a Camry for service and they gave me a ridiculous quote. When I tried to negotiate, they mocked me because of my "funny" accent. I went to my dealership eventually and got it fixed at a much cheaper price. I saw all the good reviews on Google and Yelp, so I decided to give it a try. Now I am very disappointed and I think lots of the reviews are probably fake. read more

Whitt's Auto should not be your top choice for auto services in Auburn. Although they do a decent job repairing cars, they have a bad habit of making problems up and charging to fix them (particularly if you're a woman). They charge for a consult while many other auto shops do them for free, and ultimately I've gotten work done at other places for less than half the price they charged at Whitt's. I don't recommend them, and I won't be going back. read more

Took my vintage VW Beetle there today for an oil change. It's hard to find mechanics that can still work on a '73 but they did an awesome job and I'll be taking it back to get the valves adjusted soon! They replaced a nut that had fallen off my drip plate and only charged me $26 bucks (I have a coupon from their website)! I had a great experience here and I'll be back soon! read more
