I was tempted by the PB&B (Peanut Butter and Bacon Burger) because I wanted something different and I always wanted to know what it would be like. When it comes, you feel kind of sad because its just one color note whereas the Juicy Lucy is all red, yellow, green. However, it actually really works and they do it well! Crispy bacon with peanut butter and a perfectly seared burger patty! I was scared the peanut butter was too thick, but the heat of the bacon and patty melted the sauce. It was good! Crack kale has such a fitting name. The crispiest kale I have ever had, but not too oily! You can never replicate something like this at home! Perfectly seasoned, not too salty! We almost had to fight each other over the crack kale and ended up getting one to go for a friend. The only miss was the chips that accompanied the entrees such as Mama's boy. Four and a half stars for Whitmans, only because I didn't like the cheesesteak that much, but I want to try the burgers. We were a large group on a not-busy Sunday. They were very accommodating and took care of us. Very nice, pleasant servers. I have celiac (not very sensitive to cross-contamination), and the server was very knowledgeable about cross-contamination in the fryer so warned me about the fries. She rattled off the list of non-fried sides I could sub, so I ordered the sauteed corn. It was SOOOO good - it had a tangy sauce on it and it was honestly better than the cheesesteak that I got (which they also accommodated - they put mine on the burger buns instead of the hoagie; they don't have GF hoagies, only GF burger buns, but who cares?). My friends and I stumbled upon this burger spot while heading to Thursday kitchen. Maybe it was destined for us to go to Whitman's because Thursday kitchen was packed, we were hungry and was not willing to join that wait list. I told my friends we should just get burgers. Walking in it is small, a bar seating, 2 tables for 2. We thought we might have to sit at the bar but the server directed us a downstairs section. Downstairs there are more seatings and tables. It's still small but I'm sure if you come at the right time, you can seat a party of 8-10 when they combine the tables. We ordered the local beer sausage as starters, it came with a side of spicy brown mustard and caramelized onions. This dish is limited on availability so it's until they sell out for the day. The sausage was good, it had a nice snap to it, not too salty. Pair it with the sweet caramelized onions and mustard and that can be addicting. We ordered the classic burger, Juicy Lucy, and Bluicy burgers. For sides we shared; tater tots, blue cheese fried and onion rings. Maybe that's just the way they make them here but I could only manage to eat half of them and I hate wasting food. The burger.. now that was juicy and delicious, but so small. I've been ordering delivery on game days from this spot and I'm super glad I've started this mini tradition. The food is always warm upon arrival and I love that they have quite a few different burgers to choose from to suit the new week's craving! We had the day off work and after a tough morning of sleeping in & gymming, we decided we wanted a burger for lunch. The short: this place didn't disappoint. It's tiny & charming and the food was incredible. I wouldn't come here if I was in a rush (it's good for leisurely eating). PEANUT BUTTER & BACON BURGER. Now that I have your attention, you should come here and get the PB & B. Most people probably come for the Juicy Lucy (burger stuffed with cheese), but the Peanut Butter & Bacon burger is the genius combination you need to try. The burgers here are pretty small, and are more of the bar/upscale fast food variety as opposed to a fancy pants burger (no fancy buns, etc., just a simple soft hamburger bun). I felt weird picking it up and eating it with my fingers, but it's not really possible to eat it properly with a fork. Each piece of kale is really really crispy, so it's not possible to get on a fork. And it just didn't seem worth it - each piece was also completely wet with whatever oil it must've been fried in, so I'd rather eat some more fries instead. The setup of the place is kind of weird, with a few stools and two tables in a tiny area when you walk in, and additional seating downstairs. I would definitely recommend going downstairs, as the atmosphere is much nicer. Also, it was EXTREMELY hot in the restaurant and it was a little more bearable downstairs. Come here if you want a really excellent burger for a pretty good price. I would skip the Milk & Cookies and other desserts though since it's so close to Momofuku Milk Bar, Chikalicious, and so many other great dessert options. While on the hunt for best cheeseburger in NYC (an impossible task but good excuse to eat a lot of cheeseburgers), this place came up on social media as having amazing burgers. Got surprised once u saw the store from outside. It looks like a coffee shop without a table, but once u go in, u will see the stairs to go down to the basement where still isn't big but have few tables that can fit about 20. When we got there, all servers were sitting on one of the tables and settling the money of their shift I guess... So when they said "hey guys, welcome", I got shocked and surprised Coz I thought they are customers. Lol. Really thin cut pickle chips, fried perfectly crisp in a well seasoned batter. The fries were also good. Thicker cut but cooked through to be extra crispy. The Juicy Lucy was not super awesome. My pimiento cheese was not boiling hot and dripping, but that could be because i ordered my burger medium rare. Short rib blend was fattier than I would have liked. Prior to coming I had read an article somewhere that this place was in contention for best burger. With that in mind, I decided to check it out as my "cheat day". Point being, when I go out for burger and fries, it needs to wow me to be worth it. This burger was good, in a typical way. It was not extraordinary. I got the green chile burger which may have been a mistake. I pondered the juicy lucy but when I saw green chile I had flashbacks to travels in New Mexico and couldn't resist. It did not measure up. It was still good, but it did not transport me. Fries were good. Service was very nice, polite, and competent. $20 for a burger and fries at what is essentially a quick service spot is too much. There aren't many places one can call perfection, but Whitman's is close to it. Stepping out from a hot day, my mom, best friend, and I decided to eat unbeknownst to what amazing experience we had there. Not only was the ambience absolutely amazing with its soothing colors, uncrowded area, and amazing tunes to listen to, but the service was just as excellent if not more. Fun hidden burger joint in EV. Looks small when u first walk up, but they have basement seating. The service is SO spectacular, I would go again simply for the waitresses who were welcoming, accommodating, and sweet. We got the classic juicy Lucy and the mama's boy. This place is a hidden gem in the heart of the city. It may be hard to spot because it isn't a super huge restaurant but trust me, it is worth the search to come and try the burgers at least once. There is a top floor where there is limit seating but with an outdoor view. The workers also offers going downstairs where there are more tables. I've been here so many times - both with my husband and with friends - and it never disappoints. It can get crowded though, and is a bit small. The upstairs area is kind of bare and too lit up and not as comfortable. It's best to get a table downstairs, where it's more laid-back, dark, and they have more tables. My go-to burger is the Hound (applewood smoked bacon infused patty, arugula, smoked gruyere, potato crips, on potato bun). It's small but oh so good. Their crack kale is also great as are the fries, sweet potato or regular. The red wine is decent and my husband likes the cheap beer options. Needless to say, it lived up to its reputation and exceeded my expectations. The food itself is pretty standard stuff, you know what you're getting. The service alone however was what made me write this review. Peter was super friendly and did a great job making sure we were happy with everything. Luckily it wasn't too busy which allowed us to get into conversations about beer recommendations, talks about music and what brought us to dinner that night. After an 11 hour work day, all you want is a satisfying meal with great service. We could not ask for more from Peter and Whitmans. Will be back soon. The service we got here is crazy! As in non-existent. The servers didn't know where to put us, despite reservations we made, and seemed harassed instead of apologetic about their own mistake. Why bother allowing reservations if you're not going to save us a place? Then for the rest of the night they treated us like we're stupid. I was worried they would spit in our food. They asked the standard "how was your meal," and my friend said the side was oily, and they told us that's just how it is. Alright, then why ask us for our opinions if you're going to treat us like we're culinary uncultured? The burgers were pretty good, have to admit.
