This is the perfect post-Irving plaza burger spot! There are so many smash burger spots in nyc, and this one is delicious. It's saucy, crispy and hits the spot. The two biggest surprises were the pickles (they taste identical to McDonald's!!) and the little gummy snack at the end! Service was fast and there were a handful of tables available outside of the kitchen. Would definitely come back!

Unexpectedly good smash burger. $6.99 for basic no frills burger with cheese, secret sauce, and pickles. Simplicity at its best but I do wish it as cheaper. That might not exist in NYC anymore though.

Popchew is one more smash burger place that has opened up in the Union Square area. Yesterday I had a single burger with the works and crinkle fries. Darien was the young girl at the window. A few yellow colored tables and chairs are outside. The orange creamsicle was over and more was being made. The burger was ordinary in flavor. I think that the Smashy burger would go well with their fries. Lots of customers were taking burgers to go. It's quite expensive here too.

Check out their storefront on E. 15th street. Tried this place twice, always filthy out front.

Why does the Popchew always llook dirty.??? Is their bar they have ever going to clean a floor or out front. Look at their garbage outside. They didn't hire any companies to pick it up??????? Super gross. Stear clear from this location for sure.

This place was very confusing. My friend found a video on social media of Popchew, but we had no idea it was going to be a ghost kitchen. The address led us to a dimly lit locked entrance. A worker came out and immediately asked us for our names. We had no idea how to even order and mentioned it to him, but he continued to pry us for our names. Turns out, you need to order through their app. And tell the worker your name after. Unhelpful service. The food came in gigantic bags. At the time we ordered, they were doing a year of free burgers promo, so our meal ended up being around $1! Unfortunately though, the food was just ok. They were definitely not comparable to 7th Street. Most notably, I think their name came from their fries. They had a unsettling popping texture to it. I would pass on trying this place out. The burger gummy as part of the meal was a cute touch though!

As of today, this is a takeout/delivery only establishment. There are no signs out front. It is next to the residential building. Once 6pm rolls around, there are 2 sandwich sidewalk boards out and a security guard/bouncer outside the door. Patrons and delivery drivers surround the area to pick up orders. My app timed out while I was using AppleCash and I was double charged on my end. Tried emailing them but they said they only got one charge. So guess I lucked out. I did get a free combo but that was thru the app. Pretty disappointing that I was not able to resolve my situation as I didn't feel the burgers lived up to the instagram hype. They weren't bad burgers at all. But would I drag myself there every month to get a free combo? If I lived in the area, probably, but I don't. In any case, the marketing for this spot is very good. The yellow and the mouth graphics pop. The burger gummy is a cute little surprise. The fries are very crisp and much better than Shake Shack. Are the burgers better than 7th Street? To me, no. But everyone has their preference. Try it for yourself.

No option for Ketchup and my crinkle fries arrived without a single crinkle. Incredibly underwhelming.

Great smash burger with options to make it your own. Their special sauce is amazing too.

This place is excellent. Been eating it since day 1. It's a must order every time I work late on the weekends. And the sauce is banging.

Ghost kitchen - this address is an apartment building and food is mediocre at best. Would not recommend to anyone.

The front part where you first walk in is the bar area with some tables. This restaurant is on the darker side and brings you back in time. Once you walk in further that is where the main dinning room is. This is also on the darker side as you can maybe tell by my photos. The wall paper and art around the restaurant is cool and there are some monkey statues around the restaurant. I was seated in a corner table in a booth area that seemed to be for at least 2-3 people. I thought for sure they would seat me at the bar area. I had a wonderful waitress whose name I think was Taylor but I could be wrong. I ordered the Monkey bread to start off with. It's a very buttery bread with truffle and parm cheese on top. I have alot of allergies and I was searching online if I could even have truffles as I have a nut allergy. So, I asked the waitress and she said she had never heard this. But, she came back to me and told me that White truffle grows near or like over where Almonds grow from but that, they don't use white truffle so I was all good. Well, this was super nice of her to check for me. I had no idea she was going to do this. She said the restaurant has strict protocols when it comes to food allergies. I then got for my main dish the double cheese burger with onions and pickles. To drink I had the cucumber martini. WOW everything was pretty darn good!! I passed on dessert. If you get a chance or a reservation pops up in your resy to go, even if it is for lunch..I highly say go for it.

From the moment we sat down, the service set the tone for the entire experience. Our server was…read moreincredibly warm, upbeat, and full of energy--one of those people who genuinely elevates a meal. I only wish I could remember her name because she deserves the recognition. We started with drinks, and mine ended up being a surprise standout. I ordered the coconut margarita, slightly hesitant since I'm not usually a margarita fan--but it completely won me over. It struck a perfect balance and leaned just enough into the coconut to make it feel unique without being overpowering. My sister-in-law, who's pregnant, had a non-alcoholic Ritual margarita and loved it, noting how convincingly it mimicked the real thing. Since we were sharing, we got to try a good mix of the menu. The monkey bread came first--definitely a splurge at $34, but it's one of those fun, indulgent starters that's worth ordering at least once. While I wouldn't call it the best bread I've ever had, I also wouldn't change anything about it. The crab rangoon was another highlight. Having it made with real crab made a noticeable difference, and the dipping sauces complemented it really well. It felt like a more elevated take on something familiar. For mains, the French dip was a hit. The meat was incredibly tender, the bread had that ideal crusty exterior, and the au jus was packed with flavor--I was very glad I ordered extra. It pulled the whole dish together. We also tried the smoked whitefish Caesar, which was the only dish that didn't quite land for me. It was a well-made, fresh salad, but the smoked fish flavor was a bit overpowering and took over the balance of the dish. Even though we were too full for dessert, the restaurant surprised us with a scoop of strawberry ice cream with chocolate sauce to celebrate my sister-in-law's babymoon. It ended up being one of the most memorable bites of the meal--we're still talking about how good that ice cream was. We arrived right at 11:45, and by the time we left, the place was absolutely buzzing. It's clearly a popular spot, and for good reason. Between the lively atmosphere, strong service, and well-executed food, I'd highly recommend making a reservation if you can.
