We made our way in to the famous local craft ice cream brand in the QC today for the first time. Wife and stepson did anyway. They got some amazing looking double scoop cones and from the sounds of it, they thoroughly enjoyed every lick! I have to be prepared and ready to do dairy foods myself sadly so no go for me on this visit but I did notice that had 2 non-dairy flavors on the menu, lemon poppy seed and mint chocolate chip cookie! Whitey's is our favorite ice cream shop in the Quad Cities. Their locally made ice cream is rich, creamy and so delicious. The shop on Jersey Ridge and 53rd Ave is so convenient to our home in NE Davenport. I love that they hire young people and pay a decent wage. A truly wonderful business we are lucky to have in our community. They invest in the staff with great training and provide advancement opportunities. Mmmm, mmmmm, good ice cream! Stopped in after a recommendation from a local resident suggested at dinner. Even ran into him again when we stopped for ice cream. We had hand dipped ice cream selected from a large selections of flavors. I had the chocolate chip and mint chocolate ship in a waffle cone and my wife had a single scoop chocolate on a sugar cone. When you're in Davenport, Iowa, Whitey's ice cream is a must. This location joins a subway and BP Gas. There are a gazillion flavours. I would love to try them all! Today we ate Mississippi Mud Revel, which is Oreos, coffee and chocolate. How brilliant! Super yum, too! Death by Chocolate is just that. But what a great way to go! Could well be my favourite. Unfortunately, it's not a very big shoppe with only a few tables. It appears to be one of those places that stays crowded all summer. Ice cream stands are notoriously staffed by kids. This one is no exception. These kids are very polite and professional. Sadly, I don't see us back in Davenport anytime soon. My wife, her mom, and I were staying in Davenport for a month. Our local friends told us to go here and I kinda wish they wouldn't have. I will now be comparing all other ice cream shops to this place. First, don't be discouraged by the line. It moved very fast and there is a line for a reason. Out of the 8 times I went here within the month, every single time the people working there were polite and patient with our barrage of questions. When I say they make the best shakes I've had I'm not being sarcastic. The texture is closer to a Wendy's frosty, but with a much much higher quality. The flavors are great too. For an ice cream place, it is as good as can be. My wife had a scoop of strawberry cheesecake and loved it. Because it had bits of pie crust in it and a wonderful taste. She did not like the scoop of Key lime pie as much. It could have been better. It did not have the bite that a key lime pie should have. I had two scoops of white tiger paws. Which is vanilla with chocolate syrup and oreo type cookie, served in a cup. Also a scoop of mint ice cream. Both were great and the scoops were large. There were about 32 flavors. Many, were exotic or clever. Also saw about 24 flavors of shakes and malts. Maybe next time for that. We loved our ice cream from Whitey's. read more

When we lived in Moline we went there all the time. Mine was the banana shake and my wife's was the Turtle shake. Then after we moved to California and before 911 we would bring back frozen ones in Styrofoam containers when we flew back for anything. Dubbed the "best in the Midwest", we had to try this place. I've never heard of Whitey's when I was living in the Midwest (Chicago and Omaha). This must be just a Quad City thing. They do have great ice cream AND my stomach didn't hurt...til the next morning. They have lots of flavors and I wanted to try so many of them but my lactose intolerance was holding me back. I wanted to try bubble gum, black cherry, black walnut. But I settled with No'tella, White Tiger Paws and I tried some Moose Tracks. No'tella: Chocolate ice cream with chocolate-covered hazelnut pieces. I was expecting the ice cream to have at least a hint of hazelnut to it but it didn't. It was still good though. 4/5 White Tiger Paws: Vanilla ice cream with fudge swirls and Oreos. Your basic cookies n cream but with fudge. 4/5 Moose Tracks: Vanilla ice cream with heavy fudge swirls and chocolate-covered peanut butter cups. I'm not a fan of peanut butter so this was not for me. 3/5 Also tried the No'tella "shake". It came with a straw and a spoon. Goodluck sucking that stuff with a straw. It was super thick like a concrete. You definitely have to eat it with a spoon! I like the Midwestern friendliness from the ladies that work here and helped us out. They have about 5 plastic chairs inside the shop and benches outside. You can get ice cream, shakes, "smootheys", banana split, sundaes, malts, floats, etc. Pretty good stuff. read more

The ice cream was on point. They have soft serve as well available. Pretty sure this was seasonal but they had an autumn harvest type ice cream sandwich that was basically a gingersnap cookie with pumpkin pie ice cream in between. I have had award winning frozen custards, and Whitey's Ice Cream beats them hands down. We have two Whitey's programmed into our GPS depending on which route we are taking through Iowa because we must stop at Whitey's. All other ice cream tastes like air compared to Whitey's. My husband says the strawberry is best because the don't use frozen strawberries. I love the vanilla made with Madagascar vanilla. Their butterscotch sundaes are also delicious.
