So I waited in line for 15 minutes at moline. No problem. Ordered a simple double burger, she kept trying to make it plain- doesn't the default come with the works that's listed on the menu? Ordered a second single cheeseburger, again she tried to make it plain. Ordered a basket of sides from the ala carte menu. Clerk affirmed this side was a "basket" order. She read the order back to me, nope she got it wrong. She got help. Third time was a charm. I asked if I could use the pick up window as I had my elderly father in the car waiting. Nope. They said since I didn't call my order in - I couldn't use the window ( are you serious?) I explained I had tried to call a few times. Nope. So I waited, no problem. 15 minutes later I got my order and headed to the car, it looked sketchy as there were only two containers. Uh where was the side basket of onion rings. Opened each container, second container had a handful of very mushy looking onion rings squished next to the burger. Nope. My dad saw it and wasn't impressed, lol. Headed back in to explain my order must have gotten mixed up. Was told by 2 different young clerks that the ala carte side order of rings was the same amount as ordering them as a combo? HUh, Are you sure ? I can get a combo (add on a drink AND a side for $4) or I can pay a whole dollar more, ala carte -NO DRINK ??? $4.99?? So I said "I guess make it a combo if that's all the rings I get- you said it's the same, give me a drink too and refund my dollar." They called a supervisor- still had to explain how this didn't make sense. Took a hot minute. She had the kitchen make an order of rings and said it was a simple misunderstanding. Ok. Now the food: burger taste unexceptional, like where's the seasoning? Bun so mushy, I suppose from the steam in the container? Their house sauce.. mild almost bland. I'm sorry, I really am, I love finding unique eateries and advocating and supporting them but yikes. Nope. They do have their prices going for them and a fun, nostalgic atmosphere. I really wanted to be wowed. But nope. Edited: forgot - asked my dad how was his burger and he made a face: "nothing was there! (Their Smashed version means they use less meat) "No flavor! " I concur dad, I concur.

Heavy metal vibes and ice cold beers…read more Needing a break from the afternoon shenanigans, we walked over to Stompbox Brewing after checking out the Skybridge for a quick drink. We didn't exactly plan to visit it this early into the day but since it was right there, we figured it was the perfect time to check it out so we didn't have to backtrack. Upon walking in, I knew I was in my place. I am a big fan of hard rock and heavy metal and this place oozed with tributes and references to many metal bands and songs. But, it doesn't beat you over the head with it too much and has a restaurant/bar vibe going as well. Emily and I took a table and ordered some drinks while we took this place in. We didn't have late lunch plans but knew we wanted to keep exploring before eating and settling in for the day, so we stuck with just beer here. The food menu did look pretty good and the hot pretzel bites did sound like the perfect accompaniment to our beer but maybe next time. I grabbed the Hefe Metal and Emily got a flight of beers. Her choices were: Devils Made Me Brew It, Flood Insurance, When the Levee Breaks, and Peach Fuzz. I really enjoyed my Hefe Metal and grabbed a can of it to go. Emily really liked the When the Levee Breaks but, in general, liked all her beers but the Devils. When we first took a sip, it was really good but at the halfway point, the beer started to smell and taste like a dirty gym locker room. She let me have the honors of putting the rest of it down. While we were relaxing and having our beers, we saw they had stickers and some sweet shirt designs. The stickers were only $1, so we grabbed two of each. There was a shirt design we both really liked but only mine was in stock. Emily was okay with that since one of the stickers had the design on it, too. Shirts were $25 a piece. Since we were only here for a quick stop, I'll keep this short. The beer for the most part was delicious. The people working were super friendly and the vibe of the place was killer. Between here, Wake Brewing, and Raccoon Motel, I'm starting to think the Quad Cities has a pretty solid heave metal scene... which is pretty frickin' a in my book. I'd highly suggest Stompbox Brewing if you need a place to grab a beer and do some light headbanging.

Early afternoon we both started getting a little hungry, The breakfast sandwiches from Dunkin' in Muscatine had run their course. I'd heard The Filling Station had a pretty good tenderloin at one time and their site and online menu looked pretty good. It was easy to find and their parking lot is HUGE. No problem finding a place to park on a Saturday afternoon... Two hostesses greeted us as we walked in. One of them seated us, gave us menus, and let us know a server would be with us soon. Don't expect a Michelin star environment. It's kind of old school casual sports bar. Lots of dark wood and neon signs. Lots of TVs. Seating is booths as well as both low and high top tables and chairs. There's the standard bar and stools too... Standard table service for ordering and payment. I didn't catch the young man's name who served us, but my receipt said Jordan so I hope that's correct... Jordan greeted us and let us know he would be our server. Took our drink order, and let us know about a couple items on the menu. The tenderloin and wings. A couple minutes later he was back with our drinks and answered a couple questions we had on the menu. I ordered the breaded tenderloin and fries and Heather ordered the cheese curd burger with frie and a side of ranch. While we waited for our order Jordan checked in on us now and then and kept us updated. Our drinks (a tea and water) never hit the bottom of the glass. Our order hit the table hot and fresh! It was easy to tell the tenderloin, cheese curds on the burger, and fries were right out of the fryer. The tenderloin is 3/4 of a pound and served on an 8 inch bun. It's nice to see a bun that is some semblance of proportional to a large tenderloin... That being said... I think it is a true tenderloin and not a fritter. BUT it is pounded a little more thin than what I normally like... I could see why some people in other reviews, and on other sites, would mistakenly call this a fritter. It's a couple of whacks from getting the point of ground up pork. The taste was on point, but as I ate it I could feel it getting dryer and it was harder to eat when I got to the last of it. I think leaving the 'loin a little thicker would eliminate this happening... Just a thought. I'd still order it again as is. Heather really liked her cheese curd burger too. I'm sure the ranch was originally intended for the curds or the fries, but she said adding it to the burger made it even better... I'll leave that one alone... Chicken...sure. I'm not sure how I feel about the combination of good beef and ranch. Lol Prices were reasonable and Jordan stayed on top of everything the entire meal. Couldn't have asked for a better server! We had a stellar first visit to The Filling Station... I'm going to hit those breaded wings the next time we're in town!
