When you need a cup o joe in ice cream form... Whitey's has been on my list to visit for years and I've seen many online comments saying that if you are in the Quad Cities, you need to try it out. Well, after an incredibly long day, ice cream sounded good before I hit the interstate home. Luckily there was one along the way and I pulled over for some sugary goodness. I walked in and was instantly greeted by stark white and the smell of cleaner. This place was clinically white and smelled like a recently cleaned hospital room. I quickly got in line and ordered a 2 dip cup of joe espresso in a waffle cone. The guy making my cone actually dropped the entire cone into the bucket and started fresh. I told him that there was no worries. He quickly whipped up a new one and I got to snacking once I took a seat outside. Two dips was a mistake. I didn't know how big the scoops were and let me tell you... 2 dip is an insane amount of ice cream. For $6 and change, it was a good deal but one I couldn't finish. I enjoy every lick and every bite of that ice cream as it was packed full of flavor and tasted just like an espresso but man... was it just a never ending ice cream cone. I rarely don't finish my food but this is one time I had to admit tap out as I didn't feel like going into a diabetic coma on my drive home. I can see why all the online comments were saying you need to try Whitey's. It's the best ice cream I've ever had. Just know that one dip/scoop is fine for a snack, two is enough for a meal, and at three... I can't imagine how hungry you'd have to be for three but it would be worth it for every delicious lick and bite. read more

Place was packed but the service was quick. The scoops are HUGE, get one scoop unless you are ravenous for ice cream because it is a lot. We got the Mississippi mud, cookies galore, and pecan praline (don't quote me on the ice cream names). All were yummy, the praline was very sweet, but left us satisfied. My daughter has been at a college down the street from Whitey's for three years, and for whatever reason we have never stopped in for ice cream during a visit, even though it was enthusiastically recommended to us. After trying Whitey's, my waist line is glad that we didn't discover their ice cream earlier! I went on an evening and the line was out the door, which seems pretty typical for this place. Whitey's is well staffed with quick and enthusiastic employees, so the line moved quickly, but with enough time for me to labor over my ice cream choice as they had so many delicious flavors posted for the day. Their store is small but clean and bright and the queue runs so well that you never feel cramped once inside the building. It turned out that I was there during their $.99 one scoop cone promotion which contributed to the line, but even so I didn't receive a skimpy cone - it was huge which I appreciated. I tried the chocolate peanut butter revel which was delicious - it had a nice balance of flavors with plenty of brownie bits throughout. However, I couldn't stop thinking about their seasonal Key Lime Pie flavor so of course I had to go back to get a cone for the drive home. It was just like eating a slice of pie - tangy lime flavor with nice chunks of graham cracker - it made me wish I'd ordered a double scoop! Just writing about it makes me think that it's time to go visit my kid again! The young ladies working weren't too enthusiastic and there were several guests cycling through the doors. Only one of the four girls seemed to know what a smile was. So the experience I had today at Whitey's was quite delightful. They have locations all over the Quad City areas. So they have a great variety of ice cream which made it very hard to choose just one flavor. I ended up getting the Praline Pecan and Graham Central Station( graham cracker flavor ice cream with graham cracker pieces. So the employee told me that the Graham Central Station was their number one seller which I'm not quite sure why because it was just ok, but the Pecan Praline which he said they have been making for years was delicious almost perfect lol. I got both flavors in a waffle bowl, which was the perfect amount of crispy. Usually some waffle cones/bowels fall apart very easily when holding ice cream but this one was very dependable and sturdy and went perfect with the ice cream. The staff was very friendly and I wish I had this place in all over America. I will definitely be going back again. They also sell their ice cream in grocery stores here and have take away pints and gallons within the store along with ice cream pies. A Quad Cities must. Wether you have to wait 5 minutes or 30 minutes it's all worth it. The staff is always great & have smiles on their faces. People should really tip the workers because they are working their butts off & making sure your orders are correct. I tip them every time & just to see the pride on their face is worth it. They never are rude or look overwhelmed even when the line is out the door. We go to the one on Locust & Marquette 95% of the time. The other 5% is if we're over in Moline & hit the drive thru that the Whiteys on 41st offers. Same results their. Awesome kids & it's great to see them no matter what location working their 1st job or knowing that they are appreciated.
