I think it might be the only rest stop on this road between Gardiner (and Yellowstone Park) and Livingston. There are picnic tables that can give weary travelers a chance to take a break. There's even a fire hydrant in the dog "rest stop" so even your furry companion can have some relief. A nice feature of this rest stop is the short walking path that takes you down to the Yellowstone river, which is flowing pretty quickly in this area, and from where you can get a very impressive view of Emigrant Peak. Depending on the time of day, it'll be like existing in the middle of a postcard picture. Even if you don't need the break from driving, stop here anyway just to enjoy the view. And if you're southbound into the park, consider it a preview. If you're northbound from the park, experience it a post-script of what you left behind.

Located on the east side of Highway 89 between Emigrant and Gardiner on the way to or from Yellowstone National Park. The roads are paved and the parking lot is level. The rest stop has clean restrooms and also has sectioned picnic tables in a nice roofed picnic area. They have a pet area too. The views are pretty and is located right along Yellowstone River. Saw some people fishing so you can do some fishing too while you are there! LoL There are slots for RV/trailer and truck parking. Open year round (some rest stops in MT are not). There is a historical marker on sight about the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness which is over a million acres of wilderness in a track of land covering portions of three states. Interesting read. As…read moreI was driving to my dinner restaurant, I saw a couple of streets that had a long line of some nice and some beat up campers and trailers. According to a local resource, there isn't an ordinance that limits them on the street as long as they move (as little as ten feet) every few days. I assume that's why this rest area is closed and will remain so until the campers move along when Bozeman passes some sort of ordinance and the locals start enforcing it. It's a shame that these people have nowhere else to go and it's a shame that in order to prevent it from becoming a problem, this rest area is not available to travelers. (That said, I parked my Sprinter van on a side street because the Walmart has a sign prohibiting overnight parking and the nearest "legal" rest area was too far away to drive last night. The parking area is far enough from the highway that there was no road noise and there is a separate area for semis that was far enough away that I wasn't disturbed by their idling. Restrooms, water fountain, vending machines, a nice place to stretch your legs and it's super that Montana tolerates overnight parking in their rest areas. The lowest price I could find was at the microtel. I thought it was a fun name, and not an actual description of the room. Boy was I wrong. First things first, when I walked in and checked in with the guy at the counter, he was absolutely wonderful. Super fun! Very warm and welcoming, even gave me a great recommendation for a restaurant. The room itself is incredibly small and very tight. The bed is comfortable, and the room is clean. I mean I guess Bozeman is a high traffic tourist spot but damn. 176 is a lot of cash, especially when that was the lowest price I could find. The guy at the desk told me he's never seen anyone to get that price as the rooms are usually 210 to $220 a night. But I will say, if you're just going in for a place to sleep and you absolutely have to spend that kind of money. This is not a bad place to go. I just cannot justify prices like that for a room this small. I have stayed in rooms four times. The size that were really decent for half of this price. This is the quandary. It's a nice enough room that I would stay here again, but only if it was about $70 a night... Maybe The bottom line? If you're traveling through Bozeman and you absolutely just need a place to crash and you've got a lot of cash in your pocket. This would be the place to do it.

Wi-Fi sucked. Night lady said when the weather is bad it has trouble. I asked, do you have satellite internet? She said no. If you are hard wired then it has nothing to do with weather. She said I don't know what to tell you. Will not go back or recommend this place.
