The first time I came to Butte was way back in 1984...the pit had been abandoned with no water. Over the years I have returned to Butte but never been back to the pit. Wow, today it was spectacular! They clouds. Blue sky and emerald green waters made it a breath taking sight. So much history in one small town. I highly recommend a quick $2 visit to the pit.

A pretty amazing site to see and read about. Even though it is #1 one the EPA list for clean ups. It is absolutely amazing that a company would do what they did at this site. It should get two Stars for its EPA record

Listening to dynamite going off is always exciting. Stayed for quite a while with my geology major daughter and learned all about mining. $6 for three to go to the observation platform and well worth it. Lots of information. Gift shop typical and overpriced, copper turns my skin green so passed.

Gorgeous view--fully worth the $2 admission price. Lovely narration giving a sense of history of the pit.

honestly disappointed. thought this was supposed to be a red hole. but for the price you can let the disappointment subside and stare into the abyss that is a lake filled with nothing who knows the history really i guess it is gonna just be one of those 7 mysterios of earth everyone talks about. nice bathrooms.

! Also, the tunnel you walk down to get to the viewing platform is reminiscent of the Death Star, which is pretty cool in my book.

They offer military and other discounts on their entrance fee The gift shop area includes information on local, current mining operations as well as merch. This is an outdoor museum so dress for the weather. If you want to take the under ground tour be sure you are wearing closed toed shoes. (Crocs not included, I don't know why) They also have above ground tours. Part of the property is set up like a western town. Something that would grow up around a mine. Post office, apothecary, carpenter, blacksmith, etc, etc. All these buildings are set up with window displays but most are not open to the public. You just peer thru the windows. There is a memorial garden to miners. A mine yard with pieces of heavy equipment. The motorized lift, miners locker room, light room, information and equipment used in dry and wet boring, 3D representations of mines and more with information posted on the displays. You can walk up into the mine head if you are so inclined to see how the ore chutes operated. We spent about two hours here without realizing it. Very interesting museum. Staff are very personable, answered questions and suggested reading material for more on the subject. Very good, family friendly stop.

We booked the Yellowstone Lower Loop tour, and it was the perfect way to experience the park together. Our guide, Ben, was absolutely amazing! He arrived right on time at 7am with a spacious, super comfortable van fully stocked with everything we could possibly need for a great tour; including binoculars, drinks, and snacks. Ben was friendly, engaging, and incredibly knowledgeable. He kept the kids interested and made sure the entire group was enjoying themselves throughout the day. He was very accommodating to our interests, always asking if we wanted to stop when wildlife was spotted or if we wanted to take more time at certain locations. His flexibility made the whole day feel relaxed and tailored to us. Lunch was at Old Faithful, and it was a delicious treat; sandwiches, chips, fruit, and the best homemade chocolate chip cookie. Everything was provided and thoughtfully prepared. This was such a memorable and well-organized experience. I will absolutely be booking with Yellowstone Excursions again, whether it's to explore another area or when more friends and family come to visit us in Bozeman.

I was absolutely blown away with this magnificent experience! We hiked about a mile up to the cavern entrance. It was a steady incline and almost all in the sun, so come prepared for that. Sunscreen and a water bottle would be wise. By the time you get to the top, you're pretty toasty warm-and then you can cool off in the cold, dark cave. The cave/cavern (what's the difference?) is truly remarkable. Nature can be awe inspiring and what you see inside this mountain is a perfect example of nature's masterpiece. Be respectful and don't touch anything you're not supposed to touch. This isn't a horribly physical excursion, although there's a good amount of stairs, narrow spaces and even one area where you slide down on your bum. People who have any mobility limitations might struggle with this one-although I did overhear that there's an alternate tour for folks who might need accommodations, so ask about that. This was likely my favorite part of the road trip-even more memorable than Yellowstone! (Sssshhhh, don't get me in trouble for saying that.)
