We can't see the propane cannon, and they didn't provide a way for us to know when we hear it: they didn't know how often it goes off, have an audio recording to play for us, etc. But thankfully, Tom Scott's got us covered. His YT video at timestamp 1:08 demonstrates an audio example of their use of the propane cannon. Just sounds like a simple thud. Nothing extravagant. But that's the sound you can look for when you're there. Goes off once every few mins. . Overall they maintain restriction against bird presence very well. - So well that you won't be getting a chance witness their use of rifles to scare any unknowing birds away during your visit haha . Tip: I think just acknowledging the Pit's existence is sufficient. Not much to do at this attraction. Thus, not quite worth the hassle of a visit. + Restrooms and water are well maintained. Thanks again, Tom Scott!

WARNING CANCELS ON YOU & RACIST…read more In July 2022 we reserved 3 rooms for a family vacation. Upon arrival the male owner asked me what my ethnicity was. I told him I was Mexican & Filipino and he started to ask if I had family looking for a job. He continued to say how my people were good workers and he would pay them well. He continued at attempts to employ my family because I was simply Filipino. I was completely thrown off and had already experienced micro aggressive racist attacks as soon as I arrived in Montana so by this point I was very over it. Due to our decent experience despite the looks of this place, we decided to book again for our next trip. I'm April 2023 I called to reserve for June 2023 (two months in advance) and the same owner agreed to this. 2 DAYS BEFORE MY TRIP THEY CALL ME TO CANCEL ON ME! Apparently they are booked and extending their traveling nurses which is complete bullshit because I later found out my mother in law got into an argument with him the same day. HE ALSO CANCELED ON MY MOTHER IN LAW falsely claiming my nephew had threw up in the room during our July trip. For the record, he had threw up in the parking lot (we have pics to prove it). During the argument he told her he input in his notes that this illusion occurred to justify himself. She told him that we were staying there as well and that is when I later received a phone call to let me know we are canceled due to "traveling nurses." This is incredibly UNPROFESSIONAL, immature to take it out on us, and uncalled for. I do hope no one ever has to deal with this.

The yurt was clean and cozy and centrally located to lots of trail options. It was well-stocked with water, plenty of firewood, dishes, games, etc. The only drawback was the number of things we were expected do upon departing, considering the $95 daily rate. There was a list of chores, including sweep, clean the counters, empty the drain bucket under the sink, return the 5-gallon water jug provided, bring the garbage and any recyclables to the lodge, and strip the beds and also return the linens and towels to the lodge. We've stayed in a lot of USFS cabins and are used to leaving everything as we found it. Granted, those cabins are far more rustic, but they are also $20-$40/night. A $95/night rate is pretty pricey for Montana accommodations and we felt like, for that amount, we shouldn't have been expected to do so much to ready the room for the next guests.
