We tried to train her ourselves for a couple of months but we eventually gave up and enrolled her at Happy Hounds. Pat, the trainer/owner, charges reasonable fees and has 35 years of experience in positive reinforcement training. I learned very quickly that we were doing everything wrong and it kept making Jingle even more anxious. After four sessions, Jingle is a lot more focused, eager to please, and I haven't called her evil in a month! Pat doesn't have the crazy social media presence that other dog trainers have (Happy Hounds has a Facebook page and a no-frills website) but I love it because I feel like her main focus is just to help us train our dogs. So, when I realized I was dreading having company, it was then I knew I needed help, ok, I was almost desperate so here we are...LOL Here is what I love about Candice's system: First off, she comes to your home to evaluate the whole situation. She did not rush me; she took her time. This is big because, in the end, our dogs have to come back and live with us. Candice keeps in contact with you during the 2-week process. Being from Belton, Texas/Central Texas, she is very close to me. She made home visits during the training, bringing him to me so we could work together with his new skills, too. There are children at her home, so he was socialized with children, which is critical in having a family dog. I love that she took him to public destinations, too. Especially since we are working on him being my medical service dog as well. I am very happy with the results. I see a huge difference in his overall behavior, and so do all of the victims of his overwhelming affection prior to the training. We've had a great experience working with Mr. Sam! Our dog has always been full of energy and…read morereactive--especially when someone comes to the door. He would bark, lunge, or jump if people knocked or even walked by, and I had kept him in one-on-one play at daycare because I wasn't fully confident in his interactions with other dogs. But after just the first session with Mr. Sam, we saw a noticeable difference. He not only helped our dog become calmer and more manageable at the door, but also gave us the tools and knowledge we needed to work through the behavior. By the second session, Mr. Sam had our dog calmly off-leash and playing with other dogs--including a puppy!--in a way I never imagined possible. He really understands dog behavior and is incredibly skilled at guiding both dogs and their humans through the process. Much of the progress is also specifically about me learning to manage my own nervousness due to his previous behavior and history - and trust the process, and Mr. Sam is great at walking you through that. If you're willing to follow his guidance and put in the effort, you'll absolutely notice a big improvement. I now feel more hopeful and empowered, and I'm already seeing a change in our dog's behavior both at the door and even in the car (another place he tends to go crazy).
