This is the most adorable taco shop and I found it on Yelp! It has outside picnic tables so Freckles can sit with us. You order at the counter and they bring it out to you. We got a chicken masala taco, a lamb gyro taco and a duck taco! Been a long time since I went to White Duck, and for good reason. Despite decent service and ambience, the duck tacos are as cheap as they are bland. Had to remove the crema just because I'm partially dairy-free, but that would not have made it much better. The hero of the taco is the duck, which is just bland. Fruit only added a tiny amount of sweetness. What I've heard is that they're trying to make tacos more American, despite the fact that they are the EPITOME of Mexican cuisine. Y'all know what Lidia Bastianich said in MasterChef Season 4? "Get a good connection with the basics. Don't just fly off on a wing." The person she said that to was eliminated that same night for having no idea what he was doing and for not understanding that the specific challenge required contestants to replicate a dish before elevating it instead of just one or the other. Point is, whoever is managing this place needs to understand that as well, because if not, who knows when they'll shut down. read more

I am a BIG fan of White Duck Taco- a go to place for a quick meal- the line is never to long, They have several locations. so depending where we're at it is never too far away. The food is the main thing of course, and there is a great selection of tacos, my wife does not eat meat, but there is a tofu taco that she says is great! I prefer the pork taco and the fried chicken with bacon lettuce and tomato. Another carry-out lunch for the office! On Friday's we usually pick a lunch spot, and my friend/co-worker picks up the order on her way into the office. White Duck Taco Shop was our lunch of choice last week. It's taken me a few days to write this review because I've been trying to figure out how to word this properly. We ordered a total of four different tacos and some chips with salsa. I'm not sure if a 'flight' of salsa is an accurate term, the order came with three kinds of salsa and all three were delicious! The chips were so-so, but it doesn't matter to me too much when I have multiple salsa options!! The tacos were: Thai, BLT, Shrimp and Gyro. I ordered the gyro taco (I love a lamb gyro sandwich) and it seemed like an interesting combination...taco and gyro? Sign me up!! My friend chose the other three tacos, she is pregnant, so the food cravings can be intense. Should have known when I opened the taco labeled lamb and there was fruit on the top that something was amiss. I began eating the taco anyways, and quickly discovered it was chicken with a peanut-type sauce. No biggie, things get mis-labeled. The taco was good, just not what I was craving after dreaming of a gyro taco! My friend was enjoying her tacos, she loved the salsas as well!! We were pretty much done eating when we discovered the taco labeled lamb was actually her Thai taco and her taco labeled Thai was my lamb gyro taco. The mystery was finally solved!! Soooo, I posed the question to my friend as to how I write my Yelp review and explain that we ate each other's tacos!! We laughed about it ALL weekend!! read more

Maybe for others, but just not my place. I can't stand it when a Mexican (or any Latin food for that matter) get effin' BURIED in aioli. It's a sign they haven't good a good taco, so they drown it in spicy mayo and hope the hipsters don't notice. Well, I'm not hipster and I noticed. It smoked me too in that the menu lists aioli on some items and not others. So I picked tacos without aioli listed - and still got aioli. The bahn mi taco is amazing, I usually stop in once or twice a week to get my fix. I always pair it with the salsa trio (the pink salsa is the best-it has a little kick and a lot of flavor). If you are lucky, your order will be taken by Lola! She is friendly and patient and a steward of customer service, they are lucky to have her! Ask any of the locals in the food industry where to eat and White Duck Taco is always mentioned. We did try to go to their West Asheville location and sadly it was closed due to COvid. But we visited the Arden location which is more suburb than urban and that's ok. Order any taco or two and you can't go wrong. Portions are big and margaritas are excellent. read more

I was given such high hopes for this place. They should rename themselves from White Duck Tacos to Expensive Hipster Tacos. The service was good. The guy are the front counter was very nice and patient as I tried to navigate the menu. If the weather is good the outside seating is great as you are on the river and get a good view. My biggest problem is the price. $5 per small taco is crazy to me. I spent almost $20 on lunch. The tacos were good overall, but they didn't have a regular classic street taco(probably would have been expensive too). This place came highly recommended and we were excited to try it. There's a private gravel lot next to it with parking. We walked up to a outdoor seating with plenty of picnic tables with umbrella. You walk through here to the inside to order. The gentlemen inside greeted us right away and offered some recommendation of his favorite. So we got the fish, pork belly, jerk chicken, pork belly and chicken tikka masala. The pork belly was the best with a large piece of pork belly and the pickled watermelon rind made every bite awesome. The fish was wonderful as well. A nice piece of grilled fish with wonderful salsa. However, the jerk chicken was disguising. The pineapple slaw was nice, but the chicken itself was inedible. It was dry and chewy and I couldn't even tell what kind of meat it was without looking at the menu again. I didn't even finish eating it. The tikka masala had a big piece of chicken, but also overcooked and the sauce was thin. I also got the peach mimosa and it was quite sweet. After all that, I did not have high hopes for the Mexican chocolate dessert, but it was fantastic. It had a spiced chocolate mousse on top of gooey and rich chocolate. So I only liked 50% of the tacos, but the friendly service and that dessert pushed it only 3 stars for me. read more

I want to know the secret behind White Duck's jackfruit. It's the best preparation I've ever had at a restaurant. Better yet, you can substitute it on any taco on the menu, which allows the meatless eaters to try any taco. Not sure which one? Just ask the staff, and they'll guide in the right direction. We need to re-fuel after a day of hiking and White Duck Taco Shop was a suggestion. After reading all the wonderful reviews, it was a no brainer to make this our late lunch destination. What a great decision! I was happy to see many outdoor tables so we could soak up the sun. Staff were friendly and after placing our order at the counter, we barely made it to our table before our tacos were delivered. I opted for the Green Chile taco and the Jerk Chicken taco. Both were delicious and the perfect size. My husband and I split chips and the salsa trio, which was the perfect combination of mild to spicy salsas.
