Yes, despite being a self proclaimed foodie, I do like a White Castle slider every now and then. In particular, White Castle's jalapeño cheese sliders are the best in my opinion. This particular location is a usually stop whenever I am on I-65 as it is half way to Indy or Chicago. This location is also super clean :-)

Waiting to order while others wait long periods of time on their food.

Stopped here at lunch. Extremely slow, took 15 minutes to place my order with 1 person in front of me. After I placed my order it took 21minutes for them to tell my name. My order was incorrect so it was another 10 minute wait. The cashier kept stopping and going outside and away from the counter. This all happened during noon time lunch. To top it off the tables were all dirty, the floors were dirty and the counter was dirty.

What a pleasant surprise! This White Castle has been completely remodeled and now features "BLAZE - The Modern Barbecue," a sort of restaurant-within-a-restaurant. It is the only one in the world, a pilot that I hope will be copied in many White Castles or spun off into its own chain. The new restaurant fare features barbecue: six kinds of meat - pulled chicken, carnitas, Andouille sausage, Chinese char sui pork, smoked turkey and beef brisket. Dinners may be ordered with one or two sides and all come with a nice little loaf of cornbread - with or without jalapenos baked inside. They also have a sloppy Joe that my nephew likes a lot. There is a great assortment of sides with a home cooking bent, including: mac and cheese, loaded potato salad, Southwestern black beans and corn, redskin mashed potatoes, creamy coleslaw, BBQ baked beans (my personal favorite), corn on the cob, and Brunswick stew. Once you have your meal, you select your sauces from an assortment. They are in pumps so they are easy to pump onto your plate or fill little plastic containers. There five sauces to choose from. Three are mild: Blaze BQ (my fav), Smokin' Tomato Blaze, Sweet Asian Blaze. Blazin' Mustard and Blazin' Chili rate 3 and 4 flames on the Blaze sauce hottness scale. All are good and the two hotties, while warm enough to get a little perspiration going, are not going to hurt anybody. Of course they still have all of the standard White Castle favorites that made them famous. They have an array of drinks and feature Coke products, which puts them closer to my heart, For dessert there are two kinds of pie. The place is bright and clean, with a cool graphic along one wall that references the original White Castle restaurants. This is fast-ish food (go in and sit down to eat - it would be challenging to eat while driving a car) with a new twist. It's fun and delicious. The only problem I can see with Blaze is the job of getting new customers familiar with the new choices. Once that is done, I think people will come back again and again. Get in today and try it while it's still the only one on the planet! UPDATE 5/17/11: Just ate lunch here (pulled pork dinner) and was sad to see the carnitas, Andouille sausage, Chinese char sui pork, and smoked turkey have all been discontinued due to their unpopularity. Oh, well... Also noted the pulled pork seemed overly salty and had a rub type seasoning on it. It was still really good though and it fell apart nicely.

This time I got a burger and root beer. This isn't fancy food, this is country cooking at it's finest. The root beer is amazing. I should have asked about a root beer float, next time. You walk it and sit where ever you can. It it a long counter that wraps around and the wait staff walk inside it. The fries are yummy, and the burger was perfect for what I needed a solid meal since I hadn't eaten in almost 9 hours. Yep sounds like a personal problem. But hey at least the food here has been perfect both times. Maybe next time I will buy a shirt or at least some root beers to go with me. My burger was a true knife and fork meal. At least I am too old to be wearing my chili all over my beard and shirt. Highly recommend if in the area and it is only 5 miles off the interstate. Drive in and enjoy a yummy meal.

We sat outside since the dogs were with us. The seats were uncomfortable and extra cold with the plastic benches in a lattice design . Today was a special occasion and they did zero to help celebrate even though they said they would. The wait to be seated took an extremely long time. The rating is more 3 and a half than 4 (especially given this latest visit) but I tend to be generous overall if possible.

Absolutely the best place in town. Period. Not to mention the service is perfect. The team there is always greeting you with a smile, and it seems they really remember their customers and people. Gotta love that kind of hospitality in a town that notoriously lacks good service. Finding your way to the restaurant with all the construction in 2025 sucked though, so be aware of that. There were 7 of us, tired and grumpy from the rainy Purdue Game, rolling in at about 9pm, ready to get some real food for dinner. Fortunately, we were seated right away. We got chatting and enjoyed looking around at the fascinating and delightful pub style decor. The history of the restaurant and its owners is on the back of the menu and is a great and heartwarming read. I ordered the regular size portion of corned beef and cabbage with mashed potatoes and a slice of deliciously dense Irish bread. My bf got a pint of cider and Irish stew with a slice of Irish bread. The table also split an order of pub chips and at the end, a slice of Irish Bailey's cheesecake. The cheesecake is a must get!! My bf paid our bill which was about $40, which is a great price for the large quantity of yummy Irish food we enjoyed. I would love to go back here anytime we are in town.
