Alpacas, a member of the camelid family, are smaller and nicer than llamas, a relative. Mainly, they don't spit, at least not intentionally. We found these alpacas to be sweet, soft and silly. It was a little difficult to find the farm. The entrance is not clearly marked and we made at least two wrong forays onto adjacent properties before finding the farm. Once there we were welcomed by Heather, one of the owners, who gave us a brief rundown before introducing us to some of their goats, sheep, turkeys, donkey. She led us to the paddocks where the alpacas were, giving us instructions on how to approach them, how to feed them, how to pet them. Most had been recently shorn and Heather provided us with feed and the alpacas eagerly ate from our outstretched palms. They were soft and plush, the females more delicate eaters and the males (separated in a different area) were gobblers. These are animals, not pets, so while they are gentle, they do have wills of their own. It was a warm day and the alpacas enjoyed a spray from the hose. It was funny to see how excited they were to feed (reminds me of my dogs) and they ran after Heather when she got the food. Afterwards, we went to the barn where Heather, a fiber artist, demonstrated how the alpaca fur can be mixed with other fibers, how the wool is felted, and how it can be spun into yarn. There are textiles, yarn, garments for sale. Reservations are required. Sign up for the first time slot. Our tour ran over by 30 minutes and the next group had to wait. It is a picturesque drive to the farm but keep in mind that it turns into a two lane road through country lanes. We had left plenty of time for the drive but with our misdirected turnarounds and some road construction we ended up cutting it close.

There were many wonderful scents to choose from. I picked up a picture for my bathroom, two bar soaps, pink lilac and willow which was my favorite, and my second favorite Spring rain, and a tshirt (very soft). The owner was sweet and helpful. Ive come here a few years back and the children were 2yrs to 8 yrs of age at the time. And the activities were accomodating for all of the kids. This time the ages were 1, 3 and 8 years of age. The activities are abundant to include barnyard animal feeding, tractor wagon ride, hayride, shooting range (pumpkins), apple toss, hay maze area for kids, playground, pumpkin patch, pre picked pumpkins in the front, slides, moon bounces and more. Food is available for purchase around the ground. The draw back now is the price to enjoy the activities. Its $22 per person 3yrs up. It is quite pricey. But the children absolutely love this place and had a great time. There are handwashing stations in certain areas. Although not in the market for an evergreen for the yule tide, we did enjoy the petting zoo, swings, and other fun attractions. I didn't see where feeding the animals was an option, as there was not fodder for sale, at least not today. The grounds are amazingly large, and younger children all seemed to be having a splendid time. Some of the attractions such as a couple long tubes in which youngsters could slide gleefully down the hill, were closed for the season. Admittance and parking were free which was nice. It appeared to me that many of the people were there for Christmas trees which I thought were rather high prices for something which will be discarded several weeks hence. Bathroom facilities consist of portapotties. Don't come with a huge appetite unless you feel guilty about not paying to get in or to park, because a small hotdog on a bun was $4.00, bottled water or a tiny bag of potato chips were $1.00, etc. It was a fun experience for our 3 year old granddaughter for sure. I gave it a 4 star for the kid-friendly surroundings and the petting zoo.

Pulling up on a fall day, it is quite literally pretty as a picture. We actually walked to pumpkin patch however you CAN take a tractor ride (you can bet we took one back). There is such an abundance of varieties that it felt like every few feet I was finding a new one that I HAD to take home. Which, resulted in a VERY full wagon. While getting onto the tractor, you're helped to place your pumpkins inside for their ride back to be paid for and taken home. I'm a NY native with the gift of gab, and the gentleman giving us the ride was very genuine and seemed so truly happy to be doing what he was doing. So I had to ask- "are you the new owner?!" With a smile he told me yes and I complimented him and wished him the best of luck on this endeavor, I truly find it SO satisfying when I find people giving life to agriculture. While placing our pumpkin babies in the wagon to pay, I dented on. He very kindly followed us and insisted it be free. I couldn't help but then spend MORE money, so we purchased three mums. A overflowing wagon of pumpkins and three HUGE mums, only $88! What a pleasurable time, what a reasonable price, and what lovely people to be giving my money to.
