I was on crutches due to surgery and he provided personalized "UBER" services with his Gator so I could participate with my family. Had a large campfire to sit around, small cabin filled with a large selection of homemade holiday decorations. Will definitely be a regular place for us to continue our family tradition! Everyone was incredibly kind and helpful, we asked a young man for help and he gave us so much information on tree types and what the differences are. All the staff were really great, which added to the magic. While we did not partake, it was lovely in the barn where you could make your own wreaths, there was a station for writing letters to Santa, and hot chocolate. They have several varieties of trees ranging from 8' to 2' tall. (Some even bigger) They have trees with the root ball attached that you can transplant to your own yard. But it's not just the great selection of trees, the gift shop, the snack bar and the more than reasonable prices, it's the warm, family atmosphere that we find so refreshing. The entire family and everyone that works there are so pleasant, friendly, and work very hard to make your holiday amazing. Every year we drive past 3 or 4 different tree farms to visit Chery Grove. And every year Brian greets us with a smile, asks how we've been, fills us in on the trees and we're off to find this seasons tree. We had the lot to ourselves before two other families showed up. We found our tree after looking for about 10 minutes (we actually found a few a we liked in that small span of time!) Their sign described what to do and listed Curt's number if we needed any assistance. Curt actually came down to assist another customer with a larger tree, seems like a very cool guy! He can wrap your tree if needed and also sell tree stands. Will definitely be back next year!

I was passing through the neighborhood about a week ago with my buddies and saw Mr. Fidler out on…read morehis tractor. I waved to him and asked him if we could fish in the pond on his property. He gave us an enthusiastic yes. After he was done with his field work he came over to us and we all introduced ourselves and thanked him again. He told us all about the ecosystem of the pond. Mr. Fidler's knowledge of nursery, gardening, farming, fishing and all the different ecosystems really rang true that day and we definitely learned a few things. I never knew Mr. Fidler sold Christmas trees in the winter and also different trees, flowers, plants, etc. I now know where I'm going to buy my next apple tree. Mr. Fidler's kindness and generosity is unmatched by any of his competitors. Next winter during the Christmas season, my friends and I will definitely pay him a visit, not to fish, but to get a Fidler Christmas tree! Thanks again Mr. Fidler!

Thomas Tree Farm is a good choice for finding an affordable choose-and-cut Christmas tree. As of…read morethe yesterday (the day after Thanksgiving), the tallest trees there were only about 6 feet, but you get the pick of the entire farm. Basically, they hand you a saw and cart, and they might guide you to where you might find a specific type of tree (we passed Fraser Fir, Douglas Fir, Blue Spruce, and White Pine). All trees, regardless of size or type, are $40, including tax. Traveling to the tree farm was a good adventure, but we probably won't go again, mainly because I think we'll be able to find at least the same quality trees closer to DC. If you're close, though, it's a good place to get a tree.

We drive up from Parkville, and it takes us longer to get there( about 45 mins.) than it does to hike to the White Pine area . They always let you glean /clean up the left behind branches from trees not cut to ground level. And, the tree is cut up for mulch/flower bed cover until April, when it is put thru our chipper....and the lower trunk is saved to be burned on the next Christmas Eve... We arrived as they opened at 10 AM on a Saturday and I was shocked that no one was there yet. Thinking we were beating the crowd soon turned to realizing we were late. Several weeks late. All the people came at Thanksgiving and bought all the trees! So, we could not cut any and we could only buy what they had available, which they had gone to Pennsylvania and purchased then propped them up on their property to sell. And it was perfect! We picked out a nicely girthed tree and got free hot cocoa and a tractor ride for fun. The owners were super nice and the workers were great in bagging up our tree and loading it in the car for us. Super friendly people here. We'll come again next year. But, early! The owner gave us a tip about leaving the tree in the garage with water until we're ready to set it up. Great idea for next year.

In all, I think there may have been about 7 other families there while we were. Parking was easy, just a short walk downhill to enjoy the main staging area. They have some fun décor in the "barnyard" area, and we were immediately greeted by someone (I am guessing an owner). With a very friendly demeanor, they outlined the way everything works. We were given a saw and options: ride the tractor-drawn wagon down or walk; cut the tree or choose one that was already cut; drag the tree out to the road for the wagon to bring it up; or take a sled to drag it up ourselves. DGD spotted "my perfect tree!" that of course was at the farthest point from the barnyard. ;) But it was really nice to walk through the different varieties and enjoy the scents and sounds of trees (it was windy). After some initial bickering between DGS & DGD (they are siblings, after all) they took turns sawing at the trunk until TIMBER! down it came. After starting to drag it uphill, they decided a sled was a good idea so the kids went back up and brought one down. Hilarity ensued. The tree kept rolling off the sled, until finally my SIL said he'd just carry it and hoisted it onto his shoulder. Then the kids found it super fun to drag each other on the sled. Then they took turns riding while DD dragged it. I even took a turn dragging DGD (the boy was too heavy for me! He's 12 now!) Anyway, by the time we reached the barnyard, the tree had been shaken and baled, ready to load onto the Nanamobile's roof. The others took a quick peek at the small shop, while I stood by the tree and enjoyed the firepit. Kids were hoping for hot chocolate, but the shop just had Christmas decorations. Their trees are reasonably priced, I believe $55 for anything up to 6' and $10 per foot over that, but don't quote me. SIL paid for it so I wasn't involved, BUT he did say they give a 10% military discount. They take cash & plastic. Everyone was very friendly and I imagine we'll be back next year!
