I play this course a lot! My very first course I played since starting golf last year. The course layout is fun, but the fairways could use a lot of work. Hopefully they are able to put some $ into fixing the fairways, especially with the new ONT Field across the street it would be nice for the course to get an upgrade, I would not mind paying a little more for a tee time if they improved the fairways. I have to update my review. When it comes to the course, it has been and will be a transition going forward, so I get all that. What I don't get is that there's a recent surge of investment and even focus on social media that is spotlighting social events around the new cool bar and the hip driving range experience that stays open into the evening. The range was previously a grass range. Even though the grass was a little rough, this was more quality practice... and they bought the absolute worst TEMU mats I've ever stepped on. You want to be hip and top-golfy with the bar and all that? Awesome. Cool. But it's absolutely embarrassing when you JUST recently installed mats to hit off of and within a couple months they are grossly misshapen. They're so uneven and sagging in random spots. I'm just baffled that they're all about making money with the range, but they make the experience so much worse. I'd rather hit off the dirt. The mats have to be replaced. When they do replace them, they need to take care of them. Get some serious mats... not some hand me downs from the local JC PE class. read more

I started playing golf here in my 20s and I am now 63. I used to come here fairly often because even back then throughout the decades it's been in halfway decent shape but now unfortunately I have played my last shot on this horrific golf course.. I am sure the people that work here including the general manager know how awful it is, but I cannot give them a hall pass. It is an embarrassment to come here and I've got some pictures to show the toxic condition of this course, it's really too bad because the layout is very good but this course is just absolutely terrible and I will never come here again. I wish the people well that work here. They're very nice people, including Gary, Jake and Daniel, but I hope this review will get into the vision of somebody that has influence because I was laughing, watching all the people playing on this course on a Sunday morning, including laughing at myself! read more

If I could give a worse rating, I would. I got a membership here since they are local and could come at night after work. They charge more for the their membership than some local clubs (such as Mountain Meadows) and provide worse service. Their ball distribution machine rarely works, balls are all old and have some defect (whether that's a crack, smooth, or lopsided) on top of never being cleaned, mats are all beat and uneven, and the worst part is that they never have range balls available. You're left waiting 30+ minutes for the workers to appear and another 30+ minutes waiting for them to restock the ball machine. I don't bother playing the course, haven't for 3 years because of how terrible it is. It's all dirt, dried grass, and gopher holes. Perfect if you're just trying to learn to play, but terrible for anyone, especially with how much the green fees are. Pace of play is also miserable. Avoid it at all cost, no one should subject themselves to what this course has developed. read more

I live across the street from Whispering Lakes. The grounds are now a terrible eyesore. There is trash everywhere! They've stopped watering, so there is just dirt, which spills over and covers the sidewalk on Riverside Drive, making it difficult to move with my walker. There are huge piles of dirt everywhere. I'll start by giving them credit where it is due, I came to this course many years ago and the range got a well deserved upgrade and the bar area looked like a great place to drink some beers after work and lastly the golf carts were impressive. However, I dont remember the course being this horrendous. I paid $91 for 2 small range buckets and two riders ($37 ea) for a tee time at 1306. As we approached the first hole it didn't look too bad except the "fairway" was in rough shape. Gopher holes everywhere; driving to the green I thought my clubs were going to fly off the cart with how much pot holes and bumps there were everywhere. Felt like I was legitimately 4-wheeling in Afghanistan. You'd be standing in the fairway feeling like you were hitting on concrete, almost breaking a wrist and taking a mouth full of dust as you take your swing. Horrendous conditions, as if you were playing in Afghanistan. As we went further along with the round, the quality of the course got significantly worse. Almost twisted my ankle as my foot got swallowed by gopher hole up to my mid shin. The greens also infuriated me, they looked nice from a distance but as you walk up you are met with geese shit everywhere. You also have to pound your golf ball harder than you would normally putt to over come the carpet like consistency at which the greens play. They also feel like they have a square footage of like 9 square feet, absolutely tiny greens and horrible pin placement. The name is extremely deceptive Whispering Lakes. Yea I guess a whisper of past lakes, the lake beds are dry or over taken by algae. Absolutely gnarly looking "lakes". I left the course feeling like I disrespected myself, my golf clubs, and my golf partner but we couldn't help to just keep laughing by how incredibly awful this experience was. The shop employees were very nice, grounds crew was very nice, and it seems like they're trying for sure. But this was a joke, the adjacent parks located next to the course looked like golf courses you know with actual grass, this just looked like a neglected and abandoned golf course if you could even call it that. If you have any self respect for yourself or for the sport of golf I wouldn't play a round of golf here unless you want to just hit balls and get belligerently drunk on the course in which case you'd probably have a blast whilst loosing a dozen noodle brand golf balls. Like I said driving range is nice, the container bar also looks very nice and I will say they had an excellent deal for a sleeve of golf balls and a hotdog for $5, that is an excellent deal for sure. I wouldn't come back, waste of time, course should be priced at $15 at most for a round of 18. $37 is highway robbery for such dog shit conditions. read more

Today the golf course was whispering to me to NOT come to the course, but of course I didn't listen. I tried to book a single online, but they don't take less than 2 so I walked on with no problem. But the course itself is another story. The fairways/rough lack grass and bumpy is an understatement. If you have a push cart make sure you have shocks on it. My hands are still vibrating from all the shaking I did during my round. The highlight of this place are the greens. Small, but I'm good shape and they roll well (pretty flat). If you don't mind hitting approach shots from hard pan you'll like the course. But today got really windy and it it make it more challenging. The layout is nothing special and my gps mixed up the front/back 9. Starter was really nice, but if you're looking for a quality golf course keep looking. read more

I played here for the first time earlier this summer and while the course condition was in rough shape, I think the course has potential to be good. There is a huge driving range that was full even at 9am on a weekday, they've got a lively bar and full 18 hole course. I'm giving this 5 stars to hopefully bring some positive attention and get the owners to put money into the course! I go to Whispering Lakes regularly to work on my shots at the Driving range. Buying a bucket of balls for $7 or $14 is not cheap. It would be nice you got decent balls instead of cracked, beat up balls that look like they are 30 years old. At least 1/3 of my small bucket was absolutely un-hit-able. Very discouraging. I took them to the Pro shop and the young man working at the counter was kind enough to credit me with a large bucket. I asked him to please get my feedback to management or ownership. WL management...It's disrespectful that you would sell such poor quality balls to your good paying patrons especially in today's economy. Shame on you! Do better...get some new balls! read more

Whispering lakes is apparently gearing up to be a country club. For what country i have no idea. This course is good for beginners and hobbyists because it is cheap and available. I have a longer wingspan than the greens, there are no lakes to be found, most of the course is not kept well at all, and carts don't go to parking lot which is very inconvenient if your have a full party with bags, and the range mats are horrid. However, the cart girls are nice, the range is cheap, the new flying goose bar is charming with an upper deck that's great to relax at after a full 18 or when having some fun at the range. If it does become a country club i certainly would not become a member, but for a bit of weekend fun it's a great cheaper alternative to top golf or a more pricey course. 3.75/5 - a hobbyist read more

I've been to whispering Lakes about three times and nothing has changed. I do like the layout of the course, but the fairways are not very well maintained and bumpy and full of holes. The rough is anywhere from half to a foot of grass but the greens are fine. The staff are very friendly. The price isn't too bad if you get the one where they give you a sleeve of balls and a hotdog. I do like the north part of the course on the other side of the freeway. From what I understand, the course was given money for improvements and all they did was add a coffee shop, which is never open when I get there early in the morning. They also added a two-story bar. I have not seen any improvements on the golf course. I have read that they have music and events at the bar at night. It seems like that's all the golf course wanted, is a place for people to party, spend their money and get drunk instead of actually improving the actual course. If I'm desperate and just wanna do a quick ground, I will go there but I do not like going there if I don't have to. On a good note they do have golf carts with GPS and actually working USB outlet outlets, if they still do. But sometimes you can't even get that at a nice golf course. I hope the owners read these reviews and try and listen to the public and make improvements.. read more

Ok ok ok. Whispering Lakes is a joke. The lakes in the name make you feel like they look cool. They are all mostly dry and one had a barrel floating in it. The map shows bright blue color. If you're going to make your name have lakes in it, at least fill them up and make them not dodo brown. The geese poop everywhere and my new shoes now have poop on them. Management was nice and I played well, but on basically every hole, if you went into the fairway, you're going into a portable bunker. Fun course though. P.S Most of the tee markers are BRICKS. Very unique and effective range setup where there is a bar right next to it which makes it great for social outings and etc. Range is large and a lot of targets. Balls vary in condition but nothing to get bothered about. There are overhead covers for shade which is cool. Range faces North/South which is ideal. This whole area is developing so it will improve drastically as time passes. They are off to a good start. read more

The conditions are honestly dangerous--there are gopher holes everywhere and the cart paths/fairways are so uneven it feels like an earthquake simulator. Now it's actually a great experience playing here - good course, friendly staff, no annoying practices that ruin your experience. I think this is the worst course I have ever played, now beating willowick for the top spot. I haven't played the links at Victoria but this is probably on par with that. Don't hit into the fairway if you want to hit off grass, aim for the rough or soccer park down the street, its like world War 3 went off on this course. Gopher holes, dirt and crab grass make up the entire fairway, and I haven't even mentioned the greens that are about 15ft in diameter and still have dead or missing grass. read more

This course is an embarrassment to the city of Ontario. Riding down the fairways in a golf cart risks kidney damage with all the gopher holes. The greens used to be the high point of the course but even they have become under disrepair such that the ball hops like a rabbit on its way to the hole. They got an influx of money and rather than spend on improving the fairways, they purchased a pool table, erected a coffee house and added an eatery, among other wasteful things designed to improve their bottom line. I've heard the course will completely be recreated as the holes on the other side of the 60 freeway are being removed for some other purpose. I won't be patronizing this course unless drastic changes are made. read more

This place is garbage. If trash tee boxes, fairways, and greens are your idea of golf then this is your place. Cart dies after 4 holes. All the tee boxes were flagged off and all tees were grouped together and pushed forward to the extreme. Staff didn't mention that tee boxes were off limits and that a girls high school event was going on. After walking back to the club house from my dead cart naturally a refund was not in order. Zero positive to say about this place. Don't waste your time and go to a nice driving range somewhere else. Shocker their driving range also sucks unless you enjoy hitting onto dirt. read more

We have been driving by this place this entire time we lived in this area for over 10 years we're not much for golf but we were riding our bikes and we just so happened to ride in. Honestly such great ambience and all the people walking around here are so friendly. The bartenders at the Flying goose are super friendly as well. Seems to be a pretty expensive little not well staffed golf course. When there's 7 carts waiting on a par 3 you would think they would send a marshal! Didn't see a bathroom out on the course, only a gross porta-potty. No rain or weather checks and when I asked about it the golf shop assistant gave me a snobby answer. Tried to call the golf shop twice during normal business hours and no one answered and I couldn't leave a voicemail. Carts geofencing needs work fs, and that's coming from someone who worked at a course with strict geofencing rules. You'll be lucky not to kill a goose there's so many out there. Takes a special kind of course to lose two general manager's in less than a year. Both quit and found greener pastures. This course is starting to rival Victoria in Carson as the worst course in California. This new management company they brought in should stick with what they know and its not golf. THe audacity to charge what they are, should pay you for not suing for back and kidney damage. The Dodgers A team is finishing up the stadium and must look at this eye sore. Sad part at one time this was a great course and very challenging with the small greens. This course needs to be completely leveled and start over. I loved playing at this municipal golf course. The new shaded driving range was alot of fun. The course has a top golf vibe with the new bar being next to the driving range. The new management company is doing alot of upgrades and I can't wait to see the course continue to improve. read more

I truly love this course. I am new to golfing and all 18 holes prepared me well for other courses. The people working are great and this is a course always being worked on to provide a great experience. Most people have negative things to say because they don't believe it's difficult to play, find out fast how wrong they are.. equals giving a bad rating. Fun fact Frank Sinatra use to play there and I get the frank energy learning each time Update: The new management has been fantastic ! It has still a lot of the old feel with guys like Gary still there but also revamping loads of new things too. They built a coffee shop and outdoor bar near the range. I truly appreciate the effort staff has made to improve your overall enjoyment at the course and the only drawback I hear from people is the course still needs a little work, but I see the greens get punched and last thing I'd want is for them to shut down for a few months. Overall I give this course five starts because out of all the courses in the area, they've made the most improvements by far , and that's in less than a year and a half. Really, my score for this course is a 3.5, but I rounded up. I'll start with the faults. 1) Hole 11 had a huge flooding problem today and the tee box had to be moved. 2) The bunkers look beautiful, but they have only a veneer of sand; underneath the thin layer of sand is rock-hard dirt. 3) The scorecard needs to be updated; it appears that some water hazards have been filled in. 4) The website claims that the course has been "newly-improved"; no, it hasn't. It looks almost the same as it did 15 years ago. The practice areas are good. The range is real grass and wide, the short game area has three pitching areas, and the practice putting green is FAST, just as fast as the greens on the course. When I went to warm up today, the short game area was busy with players who brought their own shag bags. The course is fair. Many of the holes are missing the red (100), white (150), and blue (200) yardage markers. The fairways are balding in spots, but the grass is mostly good. The greens roll fast but true. My favorite hole, #3, is a dogleg right and looks just the way I remember it 15 years ago. If Pebble Beach is a 5, then Whispering Lakes is a 3.5, maybe even a three. But let's remember that this area has had so many affordable golf courses close up in the past decade. I applaud and patronize those courses like Whispering Lakes that have managed to stay in business and provide us with a decent and affordable golf experience. read more
