My mouth is still burning from the flaming hot East Side King amaziness that I am currently washing down with $6 Happy Hour Old Fashions. To be fair they gave me the warning on my order telling me the level of heat coming my way. I thoroughly enjoyed the food and the atmosphere is nice inside with plenty of picnic tables outside. read more

Great outdoor space and patio. Cocktails are overall good, but have tried a few that were mediocre. Great mezcal bar upstairs and great food trailer options! Went last Friday for a casual drink. The bar booked a cool jazz and burlesque dance on the bar. The dancer was so energetic and wonderful! The music was awesome too. A sweet trumpet player and an AWESOME guitar player LIVE! I loved the way the whole inside bar turned to watch the performance and it added such sexiness and character to the place. I hope they do it again!!! read more

IMHO, the best cocktail bar *venue* in the Austin area. It just is so damn neat looking inside. Plus a really cool little mezal and tequila bar upstairs on the weekends. The East Side King food truck is always great, too. The staff will accommodate what you want as well. And they have a lot of great cocktails and you can almost always get them pretty fast. Pretty normal prices for craft cocktails like this. Very highly recommended. read more

Another one of those places that look like they should be torn down on the outside but once you get in the atmosphere is excellent. Rustic stone walls candle lit at night. Drink menu is nailed to old boards with very friendly and skilled bartenders. Another hole in the wall joint that's a must visit. read more

Our friends are from Mexico and really wanted to try out the new Mezcaleria that opened upstairs. I know very little about mezcal and prefer it in a mixed cocktail so I wasn't ready to pony up the $30 for a pour of the rare stuff. We headed downstairs for cocktails instead. They were pretty good but are priced similar to Bar Congress or Weather Up where I think I would rather spend my money. One great benefit of Whisler's is they also have a small selection of inexpensive beer so ALL of your friends from every socio-economic and alcoholic background can hang out with you there! The space is gorgeous if you like that shabby chic look and the bathrooms are very clean! But the gem of the whole night was the little dumpling truck sitting outside by the bathrooms. Thank GOD I had to pee or I never would've found them! I'm definitely coming back for the dumplings and will gladly get some cocktails to wash it all down! I'd give them more stars except my friend and I both fell in their shitty excuse for a parking lot full of rocks the size of boulders! DO NOT WEAR HEELS TO WHISLER'S! Update: Where are the dumplings??? also we watched them make our drinks this time and the bartenders don't measure anything! I feel weird about a "free pour" craft cocktail for $10+. Changing my rating to 2 Stars (-1 star for free pouring, -1 star for no dumplings, +1 star for Thai Kun) read more

Great experience. We went on a Saturday mid day and it was a great spot. Cocktails are delicious and the dumpling trailer in the back is fantastic. I can't wait to go back to try the mezcal bar upstairs! read more

Awesome Bar awesome decor awesome drinks also service! probably my favorite bar in Austin!

Amazing cocktails are running neck and neck to the atmosphere in this place. Like a mix between a 19th century castle and 20th century creativity. read more

Great place. Site of the old beer joint known as Rabbits. The bartenders are amazing and knowledgeable about the drinks they make. Take care of them and they will take care of you! read more

What a dive bar feel with some of the best cocktails on the east side? Well here you are. Order any of the drinks on the menu, and you'll be golden. Here on a Friday or Saturday night? Go to the mezcal bar upstairs. Hungry? Hit up the food trailer. Live music to one of the best jam bands on Wednesday. read more

Really enjoyed everything about this place. Couldn't get up to the Mezcal bar because it was packed, but everything was really great. Will definitely be back. read more

Chill vibe. Amazing cocktails. I'm an Old Fashioned kinda guy, and I was very satisfied with the bartender's ability. Strongly recommend.

This is a great bar, with garden and food truck. Highly recommended. Great on a Friday after work.

Cozy, cave-like interior with excellent cocktails and beer list. Service is friendly. Outside seating is charming considering it's a tent with lights. I appreciated the mannequin. Can order from Thai Kun if you're feeling peckish. read more

Stopped in here for a quick drink while i was in austin with friends, i had the old fashioned it was probably the best ive ever had, and i have had a lot of old fashioneds specially being a new yorker that loves whiskey. my friends had the green drink with cilantro in it (the name escapes me right now) which they both said they loved. nice dudes at the bar over all nice place. read more

I love this place! It's the best. The environment is just perfect as are the delicious cocktails. Good times.

Whisler's is a good addition to the pubs that sit along 6th St. east of I-35. It's definitely a cut over the rest. Whereas the majority of the pubs in the region are grungy places to purchase a Lonestar, Whisler's is rather fine, both when it comes to ambience as well as the drinks. I believe it is the best choice in the event you are not trying to find a dive. The inside is full of nature and really pretty. The cocktails are delicious (and priced so, $8 or $9 for a well made drink with topnotch alcohol). Everybody in my group appeared to be going nuts for 'The Lawnmower Man', myself included. read more

Great bar service and the Sweet Pea cocktail is probably the best drink on their spring menu. Super soft and easy taste with an adorable pea pod garnish! read more

Whisler's was exactly the funky weird eclectic pre-dinner experience I was hoping Yelp and Eater to deliver on our one free date night in Austin. This place is a showstopper for the vibe, decor and the service we received. Love that they have outdoor patio seating, a covered outdoor bar and their indoor bar with limited seating areas on either side. The borderline macabre stuffed animals, hunting paraphernalia, classic works of art, quirky flowers, random religious shrines, gorgeous stone building and rustic wooden accents and room above make for an incredible experience before you get a look at the menu. We managed to snag two seats at the bar and were at the end nearest the bartender who seemed to be working twice as hard as the rest. They have a modest Happy Hour with a few options, $7 for a solidly great Old Fashioned as well as the deliciously refreshing Eastside. My girlfriend isn't a huge gin fan and was a bit annoyed when I ordered one to share, but she ended up hoarding it not wanting to share, she enjoyed it so much. Our bartender was on point, multi-tasked like crazy and even gave us a great suggestion for a spot to check out after dinner nearby the restaurant where we had reservations. Sadly the Mezcalria wasn't open when we were there, but we'd love to be back. Having a great brewery right across the street doesn't hurt either. Loved this place! read more

Brought my wife and our friends here for her birthday last night and we all had a lot of fun at this bar. Our bartender was super friendly and sweet, she made good Old Fashioned's and the drink selection from the menu was great too. Our favorites were the Weedwhacker and the Chai. They have a great outdoor space here with a second outdoor bar. Whisler's is dog friendly and they have a doggie water bowl for visiting pups. Service was very friendly, loved the ambiance. The ceilings are very tall and the decor is very classic. We are glad we came here and would come back again. read more

This place is a cool little spot. The builder is old but it has character. The restrooms are in another building but they're also really neat also. I love the old, rustic feel of the place. The cocktails are great. There's lots of outdoor seating and East Side Kings Thai Khun food truck is out there. I've been twice. My most recent visit was catching up with a girlfriend. We sat at the bar and enjoyed some tasty cocktails. We were a little morning and just Moscow Mules. A classic but done very well at Whisler's. They use a really good ginger beer because there was a nice bite to the drink. They have happy hour from 4-7 where they have a handful of cocktails for $6. These are all craft cocktails that are carefully concocted and hand shaken. This is a great spot to hang out and enjoy some really great beverages. There's a lot of really neat places on the east side and this is definitely one you don't want to miss. read more

Despite the fact that it's tiny, the mezcal bar upstairs is absolutely worth 5 stars. The flights are fun and the orange slices with chili flakes are a must. I did not love the downstairs bar, though. We had a difficult time actually ordering at said bar and I really did not love my cocktail. It was so ridiculously strong that it was actually off-putting. A couple next to us broke a glass because it was so dark that they could barely see their table. Finding the bathroom was an adventure that I won't even get into. We were getting a little hungry, so we thought we could order from the food truck on site. We were wrong apparently. The employee said, "I don't have any more numbers" and slammed the window closed in our faces. I realize that the food truck is a separate business from the bar, but it just added to the disorganization and overall disappointment that I felt with this place. If you come here, head directly upstairs and nowhere else. read more

Awesome place, one of the best cocktail bars in Austin. Lot of seating, upstairs and downstairs, inside and outside

i love a well-crafted cocktail and am happy for any new bar that opens up to provide them to us thirsty austinites. however, i don't think this place lives up to the hype. the drinks are trying too hard. the bartenders are trying too hard. the decor is trying too hard. i tried two of the specialty cocktails, one was super sweet, one was super bitter, the flavors weren't balanced at all and the bartender was rude both times i ordered. it's definitely more sophisticated than its predecessor rabbit's, which was the most hole-in-the-wall bar i've ever been to (seriously, your choices were like 2 kinds of crappy beer served out of a cooler). i would have drinks here again but wouldn't go out of my way to do so. read more

Cocktails here very expensive (for an east side bar) and not worth it. I don't remember the name of the drink but it was $11, too sweet, and had a slight artificial flavor to it. At night, their indoors is uncomfortably dark. However, I think this place has a nice outdoor atmosphere during the day . read more

Remember to close out your bar tab or your credit card will get charged $39.10 for two bourbon and cokes.

We had just had dinner at Salt & Time, which was wonderful. Unfortunately, they do not have a full bar, and I am not a beer drinker. They recommended walking to Whisler's, which is very close by. WOW....we stood at a not overly busy bar with 3 bartenders working for close to 20 minutes. The bartender clostest to us didn't acknowledge us at all. He spent over 10 minutes making 2 drinks. If your drinks are THAT complex to make, you probably need to rethink your menu. When he finally did acknowledge us, it took him about a minute to pour 2 vodka tonics, a Crown and 7, and one whisky. It was pathetic. We went back when we saw NO ONE at the bar and it still took 10 minutes. The service was horrible, and this bar is the reason hipsters get a bad rap! This should have been a great experience. The location is great, the outdoor patio is spacious, but again, 10 minutes to mix ONE drink is crazy. read more

This place was cool at first, but quickly became a complete nightmare. We had a really disgusting experience there and when I spoke to the owner/manager, he was extremely rude and insulting. I will NEVER, ever go back there again and I will tell everyone I know to stay clear of that place. read more

I'm a fan of Whisler's! Great vibe, service is good and has adequate outside seating. The drinks are great, and overall I'm pleased every time I go. I would recommend they make the bar seating area bigger. But great overall bar. read more

I went here on 4/7. To start with, the drinks are excellent. The outdoor ambiance equally so. However, if you're going on a Friday or Saturday night, best to prepare for a long wait for your drinks to get made. The bartenders are very good, but they do take their time, and there are not nearly enough of them for the time it takes. (I can't figure out why the second bar wasn't open for happy hour on a Friday night.) So, either prepare for a long wait, order two drinks at a time, get one drink and nurse it until you leave, or avoid Whisler's on a busy night. Also, if you care about friendly chatter by the bartenders as they make the drinks, don't expect it here. On the night I went, they were all professional, to be sure, but no chit-chat. All business, and focused on their drink-making. read more

Cool place. Bartenders act like they are superstars and have better shit to do. Im confused as to why a bartender thinks they are better than a patron. Their job is literally to serve drinks, not teach. A specific male bartender is a pretentious asshole with a disgusting mustache. Asked for a Titos and tonic with a lime and he instructed me that when I ask for that beverage, it is not necessary to ask for a lime. I wish I would have slapped him. Only beef with this place was the mustached twat/ pretentious attitudes of the bartenders. Like, you're a bartender..please relax. Patio is nice though. Wish bartenders would come outside and ask me what I wanted instead of telling me. read more

I'm rarely bowled over by a cocktail- but the Red Naga is the tastiest drink I've had in quite a while! While I was initially more apprehensive about the banana liqueur than the ghost pepper element, but the entire cocktail was composed in a really delicious and layered way! It had really tasty, tangy fresh tamarind fruit flavor balanced nicely with a slow heat from the ghost pepper. Great music, approachable staff, good vibe- look forward to spending more time here in the future! read more

First time here. Great place with a beautiful patio. Nice cocktails at a reasonable price. The atmosphere is great, nice mixture of people. Trendy place. Will come back! read more

best mescal selection in atx. we got into mescal after visiting mexico. could use some AC downstairs. crawlin with pretty people

Craft cocktails and a good happy hour even on the weekends (for alcohol, not food, at least not that I saw). Had some delicious and strong cherry blossom drink (more potent than it seems. Drink slowly!) as well as the old fashioned. They were know for their old fashioned and while it is a good deal for happy hour (6, I think?) wasn't my fav so is go with another drink. It was sweeter than most old fashioneds I have had and not as well balanced. Not awful or anything but other drinks better! They also have cards and games you can borrow from the bar and because I'm that kind of kid, I did :) my one downside was that is was hot. HOT. No ac so find a place with some air moving through or else it is stagnant and hot. Service wasn't super fast but all places that make craft cocktails take time--and the servers were super nice--so this isn't a criticism, just a comment. Def worth going. I'll be back! read more

great cocktails, fabulous happy hour in the most beautiful bar in Austin, what is not to like?
