Impressive spirit wall in the main bar. Features lots of bourbon, whiskey, and scotch. The interior is stunning and feels very peaceful compared to the activity in the Red River entertainment district. If you are going for dram or measure expect to pay accordingly for the quality and age. They also have cocktails and a happy hour too. I also on another occasion went to the back bar near the outdoor patio area and they have a good selection of rums and tequilas too; some hard to find like Mauritian rum. There is even a dj that plays out in the patio area and there's an entrance to Las Perlas next door from the patio. Stunning downtown views from the patio. If you are looking for a place to start or wind down or escape the busy nightlife, this is a great option.

Great place to mingle, shoot some pool and enjoy good old fashions. Service was good. We went on a night it was not too busy so it was nice to enjoy.

This was a great bar/lounge in the downtown area. If you want calm, come here. It's just as great as the one in San Diego

We were in Austin and I found a cool whiskey bar downtown called Seven Grand. Well, it turns out that it's a chain (should have known) but their happy hour is reasonable. Where else can I get my favorite drink, a Gold Rush, for $7? Our bartender was blasting loud music when we walked in but quickly lowered the volume when he realized he had customers. My husband ordered a shot and a beer off of the HH menu and we enjoyed a very empty bar during HH. A few people dropped in to order from next door but they made their way back to the tequila bar. If you like whiskey or bourbon, this place is for you. The HH menu has some decent items on it and I enjoyed my drink. The restrooms were also clean which was nice too. If you're looking for a cool bar to hang at in Austin, this one is it.

I really enjoyed my experience at Seven Grand. The two male bartenders I interacted with were very knowledgeable and helpful. One was super friendly and told a story about every whiskey he recommended. All of his suggestions were spot on! The ambiance was enhanced for me by the pride flag hanging in the window. The taxidermy was funny to me, but very thematic. I didn't explore the bar so much as the whiskey selection. Definitely more of an experience than just a bar.

Absolutely wonderful place.. my wife and I started our bourbon journey here (we are single malt drinkers). Aimee guided us through multiple half measures and then on the next day (we came back after 2 nights) Alice was wonderful.. between the two of us we had about 13 bourbons each night. Most impressive collection and amazing staff. Thanks Aimee and Alice..

What a great spot! Having lived here for 11 years, I don't know how we haven't come across this somewhat, not somewhat, hole in the wall. Definitely would definitely recommend it. Starting off with the welcome by Matt. Having cycled, Matt was quick to offer keeping an eye on my locked bike as he managed the door in the Texas evening heat. As you walk in, you instantly feel a speakeasy vibe with a classic wall of whiskey and bourbon. Hans was ready for any order you may have in mind, whether it be a choice neat or on the rocks, a happy hour favorite (HH 5-8 PM), or spirit cocktail. That's not it, folks. While one may think this is just a whiskey speakeasy, you walk down the shotgun bar to the back patio and to the left you will find yourself upon a Tiki Bar. Yes, you will feel the heat, but you will also feel like you stepped out of Texas and the Painkiller made by Oscar is perfect to match the need for a refresher. Still not it! As you round the right corner of the patio, you can grab tacos made to order at Asador Tacos before stepping into, what seems, an authentic tequila cantina. Full shelves. Tequila and Mezcal. Happy Hour at each bar; separate bars, but same establishment and tab. Prepare yourselves. I mean, how can you not try one thing at each bar? Right?! Cheers!

My boss and I decided to take a stroll through downtown Austin on a Wednesday evening. Not a bad choice if you're looking for quick service since the night is young and its a Wednesday of course. We stumbled up Seven Grand on our way back to our hotel. This is bar is also attached to a tequila bar and they wrap around so its pretty cool if you have time to make your way through this bar setup. The inside looks like a man cave, dark and mysterious and relaxing. The bar is really long with plenty of barstool seating. There are pool tables as well. Our bartender was quick on her feet, attending to all the thirsty customers. I ordered an old fashioned and it was made just how I like it, growing hair on my chest and all. Strong yet sippable. For me...my taste buds are lightweights. Super cool spot if you have time to stop in! Definitely recommend it.

    Welcome sign.

First and foremost: this place is lowkey cool af if you want the vibes. Came in mid afternoon on a Sunday right after opening. Bartender was super chill, friendly and gave great service. Whiskey selection was crazy. My hubby really enjoys whiskey and was truly excited to be here, but it was also pleasant that there were less whiskey forward drinks for me. As a bonus, your tab transfers to La Perla (tequila/mezcal forward) and La Cana (rum focus) bars.

Stumbled upon this place while visiting. Super cool find. This is the first whiskey bar I've been to, I loved the ambiance--felt very retro but still modern. The bar shelves were stocked with every whiskey imaginable. I tried a few cocktails, but my favorite was the bartender's suggestion of single pours. He asked what flavor profiles I was looking for and found me the perfect match. Definitely coming back next time I'm in town

Technically I'd say this is a dive bar but it has the best scotch and bourbon selection in Austin so there's that! Staff is friendly and the pool tables run true. Live music is appreciated and they were quite good. Good vibe here.

    Amanda M.

Attached to Las Perlas next door if you need a snack (they share the back patio). Whiskeys from around the world are displayed floor to ceiling and surrounded by old hunting cabin decor, complete with a pool table and casual patio. The patio is cigar friendly, btw. The bartenders get slammed crafting cocktails for the crowd, but they'll get to you shortly and help you select the perfect libation to carry you through the night. Tip: there is (usually) a bar open out back. Live music plays most nights and a jukebox fills in the open timeslots. They often host whiskey tastings from distributors to help you learn more and get to know their menu offerings.

This is one of my favorite whiskey bars. I love the ambiance and the drinks are always so good. They also have a great happy hour with $7 drinks. I loved the gold rush cocktail.

This is a unique venue in that it's a bit off the beaten path near driftwood, up in a hilly area. GPS guided us there just fine. The distillery is attached to a church and wedding venue, and the wizard academy (which our friend attended for his whiskey sommelier certification). I think the distillery is their own separate business and entity but the property all seems like one thing. The bartender said crowded barrel isn't run or connected to the wizard academy but they are friendly given the shared love of whiskey. At the whiskey academy, so somewhere on the property, is the wizard's whiskey vault. Now that's a room I'd like to get into. But, I'm not trying to be a whiskey Somme, so I'll likely never see it in person. We had a few cocktails and couple of straight pours. If we had come earlier in the day, I would have done a flight in addition, to get more tastes. Come with at least an hour to spend here. I enjoyed the Anejo agave (tequila) spirit and we bought a bottle of the Snake Wood Whiskey. This is a fun and uniquely flavored whiskey. It's a bourbon finished with Brazilian Amburana Oak which lends an interesting cinnamon like taste. But it's not cinnamon, it's like reminiscent of baking spices. Very tasty. The staff were friendly and happy to chat about whiskey. We enjoyed our time there, wish we had been able to spend just a little bit longer but such is life :)

The bartender claimed I was drunk and cut me off anyway. I was at the bar talking to a girl while waiting to get a drink (the wait was long because the service is very slow, despite the bar not being very busy at all). She was clearly into me, and the bartender kept jumping in trying to talk to her too (instead of doing his job making drinks). He was doing all sorts of things to try and flirt with her and make her laugh: pulling out and showing her buckets of pre mixed cocktails, running and sliding under the bar, etc. She was engaging with both of us , and right in the middle of that, I get cut off out of nowhere. No explanation other than claiming I looked drunk, which I very clearly wasn't. It felt very clear what was going on--he wanted me out of the way. I left and asked the bouncer on my way out if I seemed drunk. This was literally two minutes later. He said no, not at all, and asked me why I would even ask that. I then told him exactly what happened and asked him to let the owner or whoever was in charge know about this extremely unprofessional conduct so they can discipline the bartender. His response was that the bartender has discretion to cut anyone off, and let me know the bartender is supposedly married so he couldn't have been flirting with any of the customers. Well, sounds like his logic is flawed--not only COULD he flirt with his customers, he WAS, and was therefore cheating. I hope his wife finds out. This is perfectly representative of Austin customer service lately and not normal in other places. I was in Tampa for an entire month earlier this year and this would've been unthinkable there. I'm not coming back.

The Ground Floor: A larger than usual performance space. Larger than usual because it takes up the entire footprint of the building with no space set aside for seating. If you want to dance or they are packing them in SRO, the square footage is there. Okay - it is not as big as the Concourse Project which has an entire South-of the-Airport Industrial Warehouse to work with. But for downtown, it is huge. * The Mezzanine - This is one place to go if you want to sit down. The space is divided between a) a set of large leather chairs with a pool table in the middle. The pool table area is on an open balcony that lets you hear or even watch the bands from on high. There is a bench with stools right on the balcony edge for semi-comfortable listening to the band below. If I am listening to the music, I will take the leather chairs rather than a stool. Ever try boogie-ing on a stool? Ever get transported to a higher place by the mystic beauty of what you are hearing on a stool? Slapstick moments await. However, it is hard to argue with a leather chair for big time listening. b) the Mezzanine bar with and a bunch of chairs and benches near a bowling alley. ?!?!? on the Bowling Alley. The Great Lebowski never had it so good. If you push the matter, the bar might even be able to make you a White Russian. * The Roof - which has one of the nicest and most comfortable roof sitting areas in Austin. There are places with nicer roof views, but not very many places with as much seating and as much comfortable seating. And yes there is a music stage if management decides they want to mix things up soundwise. Mostly though, this is a perfect place to rest your tootsies if standing listening to bands has become too much for you. It is also the perfect safety place if the band downstairs stinks so much, you need two floors of real estate between you and the abomination on stage. * I can't speak for the quality of the bar. I was here for a German government sponsored SXSW showcase - in this case of all Berlin DJs. Berlin DJs are up there with Ibiza DJs for being the best that electronic dance music has to offer. (That night however, an unknown Austin girl filled in for a missing act - and held her own with the best of Berlin. Suxxy Puxxy. Keep your eyes out for her if you like to dance.) The German government was offering free drinks as part of the motivation for you to come in to German Haus and hear free music. No exotic hard to get German beverages but I was pleased to take the normal stuff they were offering. So how good the bar is or how good the musicians they book are are TBD. * * * I generally find the Mohawk is a hard standard to beat ... So it is hard to get me to shift to other clubs. Still the space offered by the Speakeasy is extremely appealing. It would not take much for me to make an excuse to come back.
