Coolest bars and most authentic bar in Austin! This was hands down my favorite bar on my vacation. The cocktails are amazing and the bartenders can even craft up a creative drinks that aren't on the menu. I loved the old stone 100 year old building and the decor. read more

Came to Whisler's for the first time on a Saturday night--I know, I know, it's almost asking for a negative and overwhelming experience. To my pleasant surprise, Whisler's made me and two friends craft cocktails in a flash, we were able to find a cozy table inside with ease, and the atmosphere was lively without being too noisy or overpowering. Maybe we caught Whisler's at just the right moment, but the experience was quite literally perfect and the drinks were fantastic. We ordered 3 'La Llorona' cocktails and the flavors were bright and well balanced. Can't wait to return and try their other offerings! read more

The space is absolutely gorgeous! My group and I arrived during their Happy Hour around 4PM on a Friday. We were promptly served by the bartender. Service was prompt and efficient. I had their version of the Moscow Mule and it was delicious. I really enjoyed the outdoor seating. It's a great spot especially if the weather is nice. They had the East Side King food truck parked right along the side outside so it was easy to grab a delicious bite to enjoy with the drinks. Definitely a great spot to hang out! read more

If you love Mezcal, then you should definitely go there (upstairs) on either Thursday: 9pm-2am, Friday: 9pm-2am, or Saturday: 9pm-2am to enjoy the Mezcalería Tobalá. Otherwise, enjoy ALL-NIGHT HAPPY HOUR on Monday like we did. I absolutely love the atmosphere of this bar! It's gorgeous! My favorite drink was the High Plains Drifter (which I asked to make a bit less sweet by holding back on some of the honey syrup). Then be sure to head outside and enjoy some delicious eats at Thai-Kun by East Side King @Whisler's. Great place to drink and eat when visiting Austin! read more

Went to Whisler's during happy hour as part of a pub crawl and it was awesome. I love this neighborhood - there are so many neat shops and restaurants that all have their own personality. The Whisler has a great outdoor patio area and their indoor decor has a classic rustic feel. I enjoyed perusing their old photos and admired their antique-chic furniture. The bartenders here are top notch and know how to make a snazzy drink. I tried the Aviation and the Whisler's Old Fashioned. The Aviation has creme de violette which made the drink a beautiful lavendar color and gave it a floral flavor. The old fashioned was a great sipping drink that was garnished with grapefruit peel - giving it a summery citrus twist. I was a little disappointed when we were herded off to the next bar because I really enjoyed hanging out at this place. Definitely will be coming back here in the near future! read more

This place is awesome. Ambled in around happy hour time on Saturday. Two things: 1. We don't have happy hour in Boston, so this is wonderful. 2. Happy hour on a Saturday - WHAAATthatsawesome. Drinks were awesome. Probably one of the best old fashioned's I've had ... ever. Live music outside, seems fine. Really cute/funky decor - I like it Next time I'm in Austin I have half a mind to just spend my whole night here. read more

Drinks are on the $$ side, but I enjoyed the ambiance while unwinding with a couple of friends. Drinks are tasty and strong. Staff are nice, but parking was a tad tricky. read more

Whisler's - Cocktail Bars Near Me - Austin, Texas

Whisler's has something for everyone. Their craft cocktails are made with precision and care, and it shows in every drink they put out. The bar staff is friendly, talented and chatty. It's often difficult to find a non-pretentious bar staff at a craft cocktail bar, but Whisler's is where it's at. The decor is what you would expect from the Eastside. The inside emulates Eastside Showroom, and the outside patio reminds me of some all-star Eastside patios like Shangrila, Liberty, Weather Up, etc. After a few cocktails, I was ready to switch to beer. I was surprised by the $2 Lone Star. I thought about it, and it makes sense to have cheap bear at a craft cocktail bar. I really appreciated the affordable beer after spending $9 a pop on 3 cocktails. This place is seriously awesome. Please go ASAP! read more

Another bar that I can't believe I didn't hear about sooner. Hopefully the east side doesn't become the new Rainey Street, amirite? (knock on wood) Regarding their decor, another Yelper said it best- it has a very vintage upscale western feel to it. Very cool. I'd still recommend sitting outside though where it's more open & easier to people-watch/see who you're talking to. One time I came here with some friends and we sat at a tiny table indoors, and it was just so dark! It felt super cramped. I wanted to sit outside, but they said it was too hot. Since then I have sat outside, and it's just a better experience all around, in my opinion. I've tried a couple of their drinks, and I enjoyed them (my wallet did not though). Next time I'll try to take advantage of their happy hour specials! read more

I'm in love. Came here on a date, but this place is great for just about anything. Stone walls, high ceilings, inside and outside bar. It's gorgeous, plus AMAZING food truck by East Side King right outside. Happy hour is *everyday* from 4-7PM, $6 craft cocktails (incredible little concoctions), $8 bubbles cocktails. Cannot wait to come back, the vibes of this place are everything. read more

Great cocktails terrible music. Why is a fancy cocktail bar playing grunge metal? Killed the vibe!

We popped into this little bar for a few drinks and really enjoyed it. The atmosphere is super laid back with unique decorations all over. We ordered a few creamsicles while we hung out at Whisler's - perfection. Strong and sweet, exactly how I like my drinks! read more

Brett is horrible. (I asked for his name on the way out.) It was my first visit ever. I patiently waited at the bar for my turn to order, and while reading over the menu, Brett started yelling at me! I looked up from the menu and realized I was the one being yelled at. The menu was down on the bar, and I never raised my hand or said a word to him. He yelled, "I see you! I'll get to you! I see you!" I was so dumbfounded, I couldn't even respond. I waited at least another 5 minutes before I realized he had skipped me all together. Normally, I wouldn't write a review if I don't like a place. I usually just never return to that business. But Brett gave such poor customer service, l feel others should be warned. I never got to try their drinks, and now I never will. read more

This a gem on E 6th. As I follow one of my favorite Austin DJs Dj chicken george I saw him spinning at this location. We have been to other spots close by but never to this location. Sunday night, we have nothing planned. So we get dressed, jeans, bikes and a blouse. Hubby similar with a hat. When we arrive it was bump'n. Music was good and ppl looked happy. So we find a parking spot in front. Free on Sunday. Walk in, ID'd and go straight to the bar. We order an Upside down cocktail. I liked it but for the price, I wasn't that impressed. All the drinks sound great on paper. Free we get our drink we go enjoy the Dj spin. The music was really loud but it was probably bc we were in front of the speaker. It was a little hot so, a fan would have been nice. They are dog friendly which is great, I love dogs. Again Kia toon, ppl and drinks were Good. Great for large groups. read more

This place can get super packed! I came here on a Saturday evening and it was super difficult to find seats. It's mega popular. I liked the Old Fashioned here and enjoyed the open-air atmosphere at Whisler's. Also having Thai Khun right next to it made me enjoy this place more. I was pretty satisfied with my experience here, but keep in mind that if you're bringing a large group on a weekend you might have trouble finding places to sit down. read more

My boyfriend & I came this past weekend. Very good bar; I loved the atmosphere, the dim lights, candles, live music on the patio. It was definitely a great date night. We tried the Touch of Love drink & it was good! It took about 10 min for our bartender to make our drink, but the place was busy, so we understood. He was very nice. The highlight? Go upstairs to the Mescaleria. A guitarist was playing some songs, I felt like i was in Mexico. Had small tables, a small bar & a cool bartender. He educated me on the mescal & served it with oranges & sal de gusano, which tasted smoky and salty. It was really good! We will definitely visit again. read more

I'm probably the last person in Austin to try Whisler's, but I finally did and yay, I'm a fan! The palomas were great and, of course, the atmosphere is super cool. Very Austin, so take your friends when they come to see you. I'm looking forward to going back soon and trying out more of their specialty cocktails. read more

Drinks are strong, beautiful bar and trendy. It was a bit too loud for me and it was hard to get a drink. Overall cool place to check out, but make it a pit stop on your drinking tour. read more

This is a special place. Loved the vibe, loved the drinks, and food from East Side Kings was spicy and amazing. I can't remember how the lighting was actually done, but it had this lovely candlelight feel throughout. This is a gorgeous bar and fits in well with the East Austin vibe. It's a great spot for people watching but I didn't like the drinks enough to justify the amount I paid for them. There's a food truck at the location - I don't remember the name - but it was good! read more

Great bar BUT.... takes FOREVER to get a drink. Also it's super loud in there. Basically have to yell at each other to have a conversation.

We recently threw my office holiday party at Whisler's in the mezcal tasting room upstairs, and it was amazing. The room was decorated whimsically, the music was fun and festive, and the food from Thai-Kun was amazing. Sean was our mezcal expert/party planner/ bartender extraordinaire and we couldn't have been more pleased with him. It's amazing to learn from someone who is so truly passionate about what they do, and you can tell that Sean puts 110% into every event that he does to make sure that every party that walks into Whisler's is perfectly taken care of. We all had the most amazing time and it wouldn't have been the same without Sean, we all genuinely enjoyed his warm presence and thoughtful presentation. It was the perfect, cozy holiday party that we hoped for and so much more! Thank you, Sean and Whisler's from all of us @ SEED Property Group. read more

I came upon Whisler's by chance after an event and I am so glad I did. This rustic bar located on E 6th really stands out in a growing Austin area. From the diverse cocktail options (The Penicillin is just as it sounds) to the spacious patio, Whisler's has a lot to offer its diverse clientele. The inside bar area is definitely crowded, but the charm that exists in it is undeniable. A mounted boar head, a beautiful chandelier, and old time photos decorate the room. It can be hard to get the bartender's attention inside, so I suggest making your way to the patio bar. It's far less crowded and the drinks are the same from my experience. Non cocktail drinkers don't fret; Austin Beerworks cans are available as well. Prices are high and there's a dollar service fee for each card transaction, so be prepared to spend if you want to drink to your heart's content. Seating is limited to non-existent inside, but luckily picnic tables are plentiful on the patio. Heaters are also scattered throughout, but good luck feeling it near your seat. Those who are hungry have the option of eating some dumplings at Dumpling Happiness, a nearby food truck. Overall, Whisler's is a worthy bar that provides a little bit to anyone who walks through its doors. read more

It's kind of like taking a step back in time....at least musically and based on the drinks. The place is super chill, open seating, dog-friendly, historic and all around fun. The bartenders were super chill and very helpful in terms of making custom drinks. read more

After hearing great things about this place, I can now say I am definitely a Whisler's fan. We went on a Monday, hello Old Fashioned Monday -- I was not aware this is a thing, but it is here. $6 for your choice of an Old Fashioned. Honestly, I don't like Old Fashions, but ya know, the more you know. Super impressed with the space. I love the inside bar. The high ceilings and original brick are awesome, what a great space. The bartender was super nice and quick and everything you could hope for in a bartender. And the drinks were tasty. I love myself a good cocktail. Their happy hour was also pretty fabulous, especially for a somewhat swanky mixed drinks environment. They also have a huge patio -- which you obviously need in Austin. In my opinion, Whisler's is definitely doing something right. read more

Fabulous drinks- I recommend the Ginger Rogers or Stalker if you like gin. The atmosphere was cool and had a variety of areas to sit and chat. I wish the music was a little louder and that the upstairs was a dance floor. Or more obvious one. We had a large party and we're comfortable and easily found outdoor seating. Just a short walk away from some late night food and dance spots. Great place to kick off your night. read more

Really eclectic, cool interior. The drinks are pricey for what you get but the atmosphere is worth it. Inside is a smokey (from incense), vintage, earthy vibe. Outside is picnic tables and good conversation and the sunset. The food truck out back is good too. read more

I absolutely love this place. If you're into craft cocktails - and willing to pony up the $ and wait for the bartender to work his/her magic - you have to check out Whisler's. The space has a great vibe. It used to be Rabbit's, and the new owners have retained a lot of the original look and feel, including the exterior art work. They have made some noticeable improvements though, and not just to the drink menu. The addition of the outside bar is a big one. The bar itself is covered, but opens up to a great little patio. Even when the place is slammed, I've always been able to find a spot to sit or lean against the railing. The interior admittedly is a little dark, but it has that speakeasy kind of feel. The drinks are creative, delicious, and change every couple of months. The bartenders are friendly and knowledgeable, and I'm always impressed that they seem totally unflappable, even on the busiest of nights. The owner Scranton is almost always around, and I love it that he takes the time to introduce himself and get to know people. I live close enough to ride my bike there and back, and it's definitely become my new favorite neighborhood spot. read more

This bar is gorgeous. My breath was taken away the moment I walked in by the stone walls, the breeze, and the tall ceilings. Go at an off time on a warm, sunny afternoon, and sit at the bar. It's magical. It's less magical when it's crowded and sloppy. Average drink selection and prices. Beautiful ambiance. read more

East Austin cocktail bar that's dog friendly. Nice outdoor patio with gravel and park benches, two bars, one in, one semi out. For food, they have a dumpling truck. I didn't get to try the dumplings out. crowded but easy access to bartender as lots of folks already seated with the plethora of park benches, that's a plus. No live music. I had their version of the old fashioned. It was fragrant but rather weak, bland, and too sweet for my taste. I'm accustomed to a more flavorful whiskey. The drink was ~11-13$. I'm ok with paying those prices for better served old fashions. My second drink had a habanero syrup that overcame the rest of the drink. A little too much heat, yes I said it, you can have too much heat in the drink. The drink was ~11-13$. It's an ok place for a drink with a group of friends, in a pinch, if you're in the neighborhood. read more

Whisler's is my kinda bar. Super quirky, great cocktails, happy hour EVERY DAY, live music. What more could you want. They also have a large outdoor patio - great for large groups. Whisler's has become the unofficial Happy Hour and meeting place for our salon staff at Solution for Hair AND anyone else I can convince to meet up with me for a cocktail. The ambiance is so beautiful, comfortable, and relaxing. Perfect for an exciting night of fun and mischief or a relaxing wind-down with good company after a long day at work. The happy hour is fun and inventive and the dumpling trailer is sooo delicious! The staff is always on point and never anything less than spectacular. I once witnessed an intoxicated patron berate the busy bartenders with a ridiculous temper tantrum. Apparently he wanted them to make his drink faster, even though for how busy it was on a Saturday night, the wait time was NOT long at all. He threw out loud insults and orders and I was stunned at the composure of the bartenders and mixologists. They are polite, efficient, and talented. Living right across the street is a dream come true. Whisler's is such a great neighborhood bar and worth any drive. This place is so special! read more
