I was passing through town for work. I sat at the bar overlooking the Connecticut River. The atmosphere is pretty cool. Apparently the part of the restaurant that hangs over the River is technically in New Hampshire so there's a sign in the bar departing Vermont from New Hampshire. I went with the brisket plate on the recommendation of the bartender. I'm not sure why I let someone talk me into BBQ in Vermont. That being said it wasn't terrible. The beef was more shavings than slices so that seemed a little odd. I liked the slaw because it wasn't dripping in mayo like slaw usually is in the South. It comes with one cornbread muffin that is sliced in half. The cornbread is nice an sweet. The mac-n-cheese was served in a skillet separate from every in else. Baked Mac-n-cheese is my favorite. The beer selection is pretty solid. It's primarily local stuff but there are some bigger names like Two Hearted. read more

The one star is for the river. The up stairs deck was beautiful BUT the music was so loud and the station was for the 15-25 yr old pounding that you could not talk to your parties. So we moved to the lower deck. Then the god awful menu ONLY ON LINE. That was a feat in itself. The food was sub par. Our appetizer came out with are main course. Had to get up and go to the bar if you might want another beer while eating dinner. The bar line was always 5 deep so when you got back to your food it was cold. We watched the four people struggling with the menu. Laughed and told them it was going to get worse. Their reply was "never coming here again). That was our sentiments exactly. read more

They get 3 stars because the setting is nice, and the beer tasted good. I really wanted to give them more than that but the food definitely brought them down a star. The setting is beautiful, and we easily sat upstairs with the view. They had heaters going which was nice as it was a particularly chilly summer afternoon. You scan on the table for the menus, which got a little confusing for our table of 6, because other people's items pop up in your view to process even before they've decided they're ready to hit send. One item came up as a duplicate, and one not at all, but we were able to remedy it before processing. The beers were good and the staff brought them out with no real delay. I particularly enjoyed their Stouts. I know my friend really enjoyed his seltzer as well. The staff was very friendly, but there was more than one time, where they tried giving our drinks to a nearby table, so there was definitely some confusion. So we ordered a variety of things. The cheese soup, we all very much enjoyed. And the homemade chips were very good. The mac and cheese was disliked by both who got it, saying it was incredibly bland. Someone ordered the Rueben, and for the rest of the day, couldn't leave the toilet seat. I ordered the grilled cheese. What a fail. Let me be clear, this is NOT a grilled cheese. They give you 1 slice of cheese, no exaggeration, that doesn't even cover the entirety of the bread. They didn't even bother to actually melt the cheese, the bread wasn't toasted, it was slightly heated up, and the meat wasn't fully cooked. Don't order it. read more

I give this place 2 stars for the ambiance and the views of the water. I went here with my family of 8 on July 5th. Outside seating was taken so we got a table inside. They were crowded but we got a table almost immediately. Ordered food and drinks and was told we would be texted when everything is ready for pickup at the counter. It's completely self service. Get your own soft drinks, utensils, napkins, food, etc. if I had known this, I would not have given the 18% suggested gratuity. The food took 50 minutes to be cooked. The burgers and chicken sandwich were terribly over cooked. The pretzels were missing the dipping sauces. My burger was missing the bacon. No apology or anything, we were given the missing items. THE FOOD IS WORTH THE WAIT We were in town on a ski and hiking trip, and looking for a local brewery. We read the reviews on here and saw the long wait and reviews left, but just had to try it. Were the reviews right about the wait? Yes. It's common for their little kitchen to get behind by an hour. Is this the reason you should not come? Well, only if you're a fool. The wait is worth it. We found the reviews left here are made out of the irritation and impatience from the wait, not an honest review of this brewery. We went with the wait in mind so we're prepared for it.... And The ambiance is great - this staff is hustling and bustling and doing their best. Friendly, smiling, accommodating. The beer was great - we tried several because we love beer tasting. I recommend the On the Run - great sour, great flavor. The food - fantastic. Good portions, amazing flavors, so worth it. Melt in your mouth delicious. We couldn't have been more pleased. Wow, talk about amazing settings! The views from the second floor deck are awesome! The format up there is different than the downstairs which is a traditional dining room. Upstairs you find a seat and then go to the bar to order drinks and food. They give you a sign with a number for your order that you put on your table and soon enough the food arrives. Food was casual but pretty good. The people were very nice and as noted the views are spectacular! I love the way they are so organized downstairs as well. Within a minute or so of giving our names I got a text with my spot on the waiting list. We got a 5 minute warning before they had a table for us and another when the table was ready. We were able to reply that we were eating upstairs to take our name off the wait list, so it was very convenient and allowed us the option of eating in either spot. This is a truly beautiful location with decent parking and service, good food and drinks and good service. Well worth a side trip! read more

Visited Whetstone Station off the recommendation of my AirBnB host. It was definitely hopping, as it was a Friday night. The wait for one was around an hour, but was able to find a spot at the bar without issue. I ordered their house Hefeweizen. It had a mild taste but pleasant aroma of bananas - I kept thinking someone near me was drinking a Pina Colada. Food wise I ordered the Crazy Happy Waitress (The house grilled cheese) with their station fries. The Crazy Happy Waitress left a little to be wanted, flavor-wise, but was still good. For dessert I ordered their Berry Brown Butter Shortcake that is topped with gin and maple macerated mixed berries and whipped cream. My husband and I used to come here before COVID and always enjoyed it. The food was never super, but the beer was good, and the setting is unbeatable. But, wow, has this place gone down hill. There's no longer any table service, it's fight for a seat and then order from a QR code. The upstairs bar isn't open (or at least it wasn't that day). We finally got a table and ordered some chicken tenders and a pretzel, along with our beer. The tenders were anything but tender, hard, thick ass breading and no flavor whatsoever, even though they're called "firecracker" tenders. The pretzel was edible, but nothing to brag about. So would recommend going for a beer and enjoying sitting at the edge of the Connecticut River with mountainous views, but skip the food. read more

Came for the view, stayed for a little while for the food. We came by on a Monday after a very long wedding weekend. We put our name in and were told it would be about an hour (it was longer), but that we could wait up in the Biergarten, which has an amazing view. The service upstairs is absolutely horrible. We stood at the bar and didn't get as much as eye contact for almost 20 minutes. There were a few other people waiting, but it wasn't so crazy to warrant that. When my friend wanted to ask a question, the bartender seemed overwhelmed and stressed and did not want to take time to answer any. Once we finally sat down, service improved. The food was good and came out quickly, but the watermelon jalapeno margaritas sealed the deal for me. Of course they were out of Heady Topper, but that was to be expected. We left with full stomachs and mixed feelings. The view is spectacular and made the trip worth it, but our quick stop for lunch turned into a whole afternoon ordeal. Went on a day trip driving around exploring New England and stumbled upon Woods Hill Table on the border of Vermont and New Hampshire. It's a really cute restaurant that sits on the river that separates the two states. It offers outdoor dining facing the river, but we opted for the indoor dining for a window table with scenic views since it was so hot out. We had to order the food on our phones and pick up our food ourselves when it was ready. We also had to bus our own table, which was different. Overall the food was okay. Worth stopping by if you're already in the area and don't mind self service. read more

This is a great location and was a regular stopping point for our family in past years. My daughter has celiac and is gluten free. We would go out of our way to come to whetstone because they were really knowledgeable about gluten free and cross contamination issues and had a range of options that were delicious (both GF and non GF). In particular we loved the gluten free wings and fries cooked in a separate fryer. Over the last few years the number of gf options seems to have dwindled and there is less awareness in general. We ordered the wings and our server and staff double checked for us and it seems the wings are no longer gluten free nor are the fries despite the good reviews on find me GF. The setting is still great but this restaurant has definitely declined in overall quality in the past few years and now seems to be a burger, beer and hotdog joint. read more

The beer was good! I had the session IPA beer from Whetstone itself, staff was friendly and the view was great from our table. We got the pierogis as our appetizer, they were ok. The cream cheese had chives and bacon in it which was pretty good. I got the Buddha bowl, it was good as long as you know what you were getting, the vegetables were toasted nicely and the collared greens were good! I wasn't a huge fan of the veggie patties, they tasted like stuffing, with a strong herbal flavor. I wish it had more of a crust on it because they were very soft. Overall I would come back again but I think i would get something in the bar food spectrum instead of the health food one! read more

This place was awesome ... if for the views and location alone! I'd probable give it 5 stars if I had the opportunity to dine inside but we arrived just after a large bus tour , the wait was long so we opted to grab a late lunch on the upstairs patio, the Bier Garten, The bier garten menu is totally different from downstairs and somewhat limited but the views were fabulous! This is order at the bar, pickup at a window soon table service. We had the turkey wrap and a fabulous simple burrata salad! I had two samplers, one a cider Apple Haze and the other the Weizen guy while my husband had a pint of their beer Hot Ticket. All were enjoyed along with some fresh air, a view of the CT river and bridge and some early VT fall foliage. Parking is limited but there is a metered lot right across the street. After dining we took the bridge we'd been watching across the CT river (2 bridges actually) and crossed from VT to NH. We really enjoyed Whetstone and will definitely return . read more

First visit, huge crowd Sunday mid afternoon. No problem getting a seat outside in the beer garden, but the menu is very limited up there. To get the full menu, you have to go downstairs and order takeout or sit downstairs course. Basically strikes me as a touristy stop, with $14 sandwiches. Friends don't let friends patronize Whetstone. I must warn out of towners (I am one) about coming here; my experience was astoundingly bad. The service was okay given the employee problems in the restaurant business. The food was dreadful and sadly, this can be one of the few choices in this town these days. The food was universally very very bad; we tried lots of things as we were a large group. There is nothing to eat here. So I have to say something about the French fries. After seating ourselves upstairs we took a minute to figure out the ordering app and placed our order. My only issue with the app was wondering if we'd done it right and how long to wait before we asked someone. No need though as the bartender brought our drinks and the burgers came shortly after. We had heard about this place from friends-- a must if you're in Brattleboro. I'm so glad we had the opportunity to come here while I was visiting. The beer was excellent, food was okay, but the beautiful view of the river and the friendly staff is what made it special. Our server was named Adrienne. We ordered: Poutine (excellent- get it! We should have ordered a large!) Korean Shank (tasty) pretzels (pass) Burgers (John Wayne and Greek - yum!) We waited for a table outside at the bar. What a view! Our table was ready shortly and our food came out fast. They had a new summer menu, and our server walked us through all the options and helped us pick out some delicious beers and our food. This place is a gem if you're driving back south from Skiing. Great beer, awesome menu and service and they had a ton of vegetarian/vegan options for picky eaters. Jalepeno poppers were nice and crunchy battered pieces with a nice Chipotle sauce, but super spicy! Their signature beer was really delicious. Loved the bratwurst - came with some nice sourkrout and cabbage and a cool mustard over the top. Definitely some of the best vegan hot dogs I've ever eaten. Grilled cheese and salads were expertly done, and the tortellini was good too. Would not recommend the pub chips, as they were basically just homemade potato chips - better off with sweet potato tots! read more

Had to wait in line 40 minutes to be seated outdoors. The view was really nice if the river. However because of Covid-19 the service is sort of non existent here. You order drinks they pour them for you. But if you order food you have to go down to a separate pickup area and get it yourself to bring to your own table. I haven't been out much since Covid-19 stuff so not sure if this is just the norm now or not. Definitely felt weird eating out in a restaurant for the first time in a while. We had French fries as an app and chicken salad as our main dish. We really enjoyed the fries and salad. The salad had a fantastic avocado spread on it with your choice of dressing. If you want mediocre food drink and service this is the place for you! You order using an app that is unique to your table and the servers only stop by to deliver food and drink. Food was below average- Oder the steak tip dinner and you get a small cast iron skillet with a pile of cooked meat- no fries, salad, etc., just a pile of cooked cubes of meat. Bbq chicken tenders are served on a plate but without any bbq sauce - so you had to find the server to get some. The offer a variety of wings- selected Buffalo but they came plain-no sauce and no carrots or celery. Menu shows them with celery and carrots but nope and no Buffalo sauce either. Condiments are ketchup and mustard. If you order a soda, they deliver an empty cup and walk away- you serve yourself but the server never mentioned where the soda machine was. And repeatedly servers came by to deliver drinks and food that you did not order- happened at least 4 times by 3 different servers- they were confused by their own high tech ordering systems. And you cash yourselves out on their app/ that was the highlight of the visit- leaving. They have a great location, nice atmosphere but fail at execution- owners must have worked hard the first few years to build the business and now are checked out. Very disappointed portions were extremely small and prices high. A large fry looked like it was barely 1 potato. It was less then the side portion included with a burger. There is absolutely no service except for some to bring your order over. Almost couldn't get anybody to recognize us ti get go boxes. Also the whole place shut down before 9pm. Order by scanning the bar code on your table. No need to chat with anyone, just place your order directly on your phone. Fast and simple, just how we like it. I recommend including your table number in the name area when preparing your order. Food and drinks came QUICK. Love that for us! So many beers.. cocktails.. appetizers... wings.. burgers.. you name it! The burger I got had avocado on it, so do I need to explain anymore? It was absolutely delicious. Spend a Friday night here with your partner, friends, or family by the warm patio heater. Such a beautiful view to enjoy as you are right next to a mountain and green bridge. Lots of parking so don't stress! Plenty of space inside, but if your looking to sit outside, maybe call and make a reservation. Looks like a popular spot here. We try to stop by this place whenever we're in the area (my family's from MA). The wait was pretty long (45+ minutes) but worth it and we had the beer garden to wait in so it was fine. Two noteworthy things about this place are the atmosphere and the menu. Almost everything on the menu sounds amazing to me and there's a sense of playfulness/creativity in the ingredients so it's not your average, generic pub dishes. There's a lot to look at inside the restaurant decor-wise and outdoor seating has a great view and fire pits. Overall, I'd say that the place has great character to it. This time around I ordered the 3rd rail chicken tenders and their famous cheddar ale soup. I unintentionally ended up ordering two very boozy dishes. The chicken was soaked in a peach bourbon and the cheddar ale soup speaks for itself. Both dishes were amazingly yummy and actually went decently well together (dipping the chicken into the soup). The chicken was nice and crunchy and had a unique flavor. The soup was shockingly strong alcohol-wise but nice and creamy/cheesy. I'd order both dishes again if it weren't for the fact that I want to explore the rest of their menu! We stumbled upon Whetstone when we arrived in Brattleboro. We were looking to enjoy a nice drink, cold beer and a snacky style lunch. The place was packed, but we managed to find 2 seats at the bar. Mr. B was sitting in Vermont, while I was in New Hampshire. Yep, the restaurant sits in both states. He ordered a really great local beer, and I had a nice cold drink. We settled on the Poutine, which is a guilty pleasure. Every one makes it different and Whetstone isn't any different. The fries were crunchy, the gravy had a nice beef flavor and instead of melting the cheese curds over the top, they were battered and fried, Yum! We loved the dish, and enjoyed sitting at the bar chatting with the staff and locals at the bar. Ordered from the bar and waited an excruciating hour for my food, only to witness the people next to me receiving their orders within a mere 10 minutes after ordering through a waitress. Absolutely infuriating! Starving and with a long journey ahead of me, I was too famished to even consider canceling my order. The rude waitress ignored us, and when we brought up our concerns, the manager was equally rude and disrespectful. It's appalling that they don't even advise other customers before they order that it's going to be a long wait. It seems their profit comes more from their drinks than the food. To add insult to injury, it became evident that other customers had experienced the same problem. In the end, I had no choice but to cancel my food order. Next time, I'll be sure to avoid this place altogether when I'm in Brattleboro. read more

I gave one star for the view. We were here about two years ago and loved it. We came in tonight and from the start it was a terrible experience. The bartender was rude and dismissive. We stood at the bar to order food and were ignored for about five minutes before she finally acknowledged us. I get being busy but a "Be right with you" goes a long way. Her greeting was "what do you want?" or something to that effect. We ordered and sat down. My husband's food came out about 10 minutes before mine. The waitress basically dropped the plate on the table and walked away. She came back with my wings and they were pathetic. Sorry. No other word. They were so tiny. There was no way it was the pound that was advertised on the menu. I doubt we will be back. read more
