When Pigs Fly really stands out on Whyte Avenue. I think it has to do with the colourful awning that has such big letters announcing the store. Inside, is a plethora of gift ideas. It is sort of cramped, especially if it is busy, so you need to be careful when browsing the aisles. The store carries gifts, toys, and novelties for different age groups. You can find stuff here for kids, co-workers, family members, and even tantalize your lover with some of the adult goodies. Seasonal items also abound, particularly at Halloween and Christmas. Some items are a bit more practical, like housewares, garden accessories, and cosmetic items. However, a lot of what is here would definitely fall into the "gag gift" category.

I love stores that are filled with home decor, and I don't mind the country feel that When Pigs Fly has, but I am so overwhelmed when I go into Pigs Fly that I can't stay long enough to browse for anything. This store is filled with many different country style knick knacks, they also have those angels that have become ever so popular. They also have jewelery, gifts and some gag gifts or humorous things. This store is completely crowded, even when it is not filled with people (which is rare). If you don't mind tight spaces, go ahead and browse this store. You will be overwhelmed if you are searching for something in particular, but if you are just looking for fun, this store is worth one look.

It's been awhile since I came to this shop, because the last time I was here, I accidentally broke something and was so embarrassed and afraid I would break something else. But like any really good shop, you can't stay away from When Pigs Fly for long. It eventually lulled me back. So yes, they have a lot of breakable stuff, but it's really cool breakable stuff. They've got some pretty nifty items for Halloween right now, like flashy witch earrings. There's always lots of kitchen and garden accessories too. I saw one wall hanging that was called a weather-watcher or something, and it was a long list of how to predict the weather; the funny part is, they had Canadian and Italian versions. For example, "Eef itsa raining, get out of de kitchen!" I like the lotions and bubble bath items they have in stock as well. They smell so nice! I fell in love with the "apple love" scent in particular, as it's sweet but not heavy. I also bought some early Christmas ornaments from their clearance sale from last year's season. There's always something I can find at this shop, even if I don't intend to buy anything (which isn't really a good thing, I guess).

    Pigs do fly!

When Pigs Fly is the place I usually go around Christmas, when I haven't got the faintess idea of what to buy someone. This store has a lot of interesting items, but I would say that most of it would be more appealing towards women. Unfortunately, no matter how many times I come here, I never end up buying anything, because a lot of their items (although unique) are still stereotypical gift items; not to mention, I think this store is just a little too cutesy for me. There's a lot of cuddly, smelly, and quirky going on in this store. Most of what they carry are unique items you aren't going to find anywhere else. You can feel confident buying someone a gift here and not giving them the same thing someone else got them. One year they had a lot of fake roosters--a little too real-looking for my liking, but it might make a good quirky gift? There's a lot of stuffed animals here, and I know they have those really popular Webkinz. I've seen some really nice jewellery here, but it's kind of expensive. There's also a lot of bath items, like colourful, smelly soaps and things. Actually, I probably would buy some of these, if they were cheaper, since they are organic and natural. Even though I don't buy anything here, I still like looking around; not to mention, I love the old wooden floor that creaks!

I personally don't like When Pigs Fly and the stores alike. There are too many seemingly useless products on the shelves. I am all up for an occasional decorative object or an unusual gift, but stores dedicated to selling a little bit of everything is something I try to avoid. This time of year, When Pigs Fly sells everything that has to do with Christmas in addition to their usual inventory which consists of jewelry, home fragrances, housewares and objects the purpose of which is unknown to me. It is easy to become dazed and confused at this store. You also have to be careful not to knock anything over as this store is stocked from top to bottom, is hard to move around in and always busy. For me, less is always more, and since When Pigs Fly store's philosophy is completely opposite, I will refrain from shopping here.

I love the name of this shop - it speaks of imagination surpassing one's wildest dreams. It's a fun gift shop to browse in because there's so much to see. The old, creaky floors have a nostalgic feel and the staff are cheery and helpful, while always at work unloading new stock or making the store look better. They have lots of great, original greeting cards, stuffed animals, jewelry, pamper products, baby stuff and seasonal items. Near Halloween or Christmas the spirit is alive in their front-end displays. I find a lot of seasonal decor tacky, so it's not really for me. I like going to the smelly stuff - the bath oils, salts, hand creams, etc. This is the shop I discovered Barefoot Venus in. I have since picked up several bottles of Georgia Peach, a massage oil to that's to die for and made in Edmonton. When Pigs Fly also stocks Warm Buddies heating pads, Goat Mountain Soup, jewelry from the local designer Kaitrin Design, and WebKinz, the "interactive" stuffed animal kids use with the Internet! Are you kidding me?! Interacting with your stuffed toys used to mean talking to them! Anyway, you can get'em here.

I love this store, it's just so much fun being here! You can find great gifts here at the Plaid…read moreGiraffe. Some people might find the items generic, but I argue they are anything but. There are many items that your family and friends will most likely get a kick out of. Most of it is for the female population though (as like most stores). The Plaid Giraffe carries Nine & Co. bags from Nine West, unique scarves, jewelry (wow, do they have jewelry), and other neat gift items. As I made my way through the store recently, one guy was browsing as well and, while his girlfriend paid for her brand new bag at the counter, he was picking up one item after another and saying "How sweet is this?!?" again and again. I have to admit, it was pretty amusing. But then, so is their selection. Among their items that will make you laugh and gasp are barbed wire toilet paper (TP with a barbed wire design on it) and -- get this -- a hair-coloring kit specifically for your "hair down there". I'm dead serious! I had never seen anything like it before. I mean, who does that? Not that I'm judging or anything ... hey, it's something new! But the colors available were electric blue, pink, and orange. Whoa, now there's somethin' freaky going on there! My favorite thing about the Plaid Giraffe though, is their jewelry, which is pretty much the inner half of the shop. They have it all color-coded, so there are your blues, then purples, and black and whites, and so on. Some of it is a little pricey, but it depends on what materials it has, right? I find that most of their earrings start at $9.99 and go up from there. They've also got a wide selection of those neat purse-hanger things that have been popping up everywhere. The idea is that you basically hang part of it on the edge of a table, and it has a hook that your bag can hang from. Your bag won't be on the floor and get dirty, and has its own place. The Plaid Giraffe also carries items that make great traveler gifts, if you are shopping for a globe-trotter. They have typical items like travel pillows, but with and fun designs, so they're not as boring. Anyway, that's just a peek at what they have in store. I'm already looking forward to my next trip here!

It's a really nice bag but it's a couple of years old now and the store no longer carries one like it. They have some really nice other bags though but not like my friends so I, personally, wasn't really interested. I did like their cute wallets made from different colored leather with fun designs or patterns on them. They have a lot of accessories. Their whole back half of the store is devoted to accessories. I found some great earrings that I've been looking for at some good prices; one pair was $9.99 and the other pair (a pair of square ones; I actually don't own square shaped earrings!) for $11.99. They have a lot of really nice but not too expensive looking jewelry. Their store is really nice and net with lots of open areas so you can actually breath. The two girls that were working were really nice and super friendly. They let me look around in peace without bugging me or pressuring me to buy something; it was really nice to just to my thing.

It's free to pick it up in-store, so that's the option I chose. I placed the order late one evening and then received an email the next morning that my order was ready for pick up! Super fast! Walking into the store, you realize how large it is - it's quite deceiving from the outside. It's beautiful inside and it smells lovely; not sure if they had an air freshener or a diffuser or something like that, but it's a wonderful, light and calming scent that greets you. My order was ready behind the counter, but walking around the store I noticed a huge array of both men's and women's clothing, home decor, greeting cards, tons of candles and soaps and it goes on and on. If I didn't have to get back to work, I could easily spend a while browsing through there. The items I bought were lovely and also had a faint hint of the pretty scent from the store. I will definitely make a point to come back!

I thought Red Ribbon was going to be another one of those stores that frustrates me, because either the clothes are too expensive or too small for me to fit in. When I first walked in, I thought it looked like such a nice store. It was kind of dim, with spotlights. The hardwood floors were dark, and the clothes looked eclectic. I started looking through one rack of shirts, and I was kind of shocked to see plain cotton shirts selling for $70. I kept looking through different racks, and what I started to notice was that the prices really varied. There were a lot of very expensive clothes, but there was also some very affordable clothes. I didn't see that many bigger sizes, but I eventually came across two really cool shirt dresses in my size. I tried them on, and the black on fit perfectly. And the best part was that it was marked down from $69 to $35! I couldn't believe what a good deal that was for such a nice shirt. I noticed on the receipt that this store only offers store credit or exchanges, but I am quite sure I won't be returning this shirt. They also had some awesome purses and bags, but these were well over a hundred dollars. I love this store, and I would give it five stars, if they carried more larger sizes. I will definitely be stopping by here quite often from now on.

There were a few more flannel sets towards the back of the store too. They had robes as well, and there was one brand made is Canada that was super soft and so luxurious. The sales associate told me the owner or maybe another staff has had one for years and it's still soft after washing. Love this product but it was pricey, I think $160. They also have them in children's sizes downstairs too. The moisture wicking sleepwear is on the right wall at the back of the store.
