Admittedly I had a difficult request - no mums, I requested, bright and cheerful, for 100.00. The resulting bouquet was ...meh. Not very impressive, with flowers that could have been sourced from a $7.00 grocery store bouquet and a couple of snapdragons and roses thrown in. Beautiful shop in every way possible. It's not only flowers but all those little extras that are lovely gifts or nice home accents. If you go there (and are able to handle stairs) check out the basement area. In the past that's usually where I find my items I had no idea I was looking for but absolutely can't leave without now finding it. The flower shop itself is set up throughout the main floor. Be sure to gaze around on a long weekend such as this, as they've placed vases of cut and bundled flowers throughout the place. I was very happy to find bunches of grains and grasses as well as rose hips. I'm also super grateful for the store employee for being so great to describe by phone what they had in stock (as I'm looking for specific items for the funeral wreaths I'm making). I like that they're open later on Thursdays and Fridays, giving someone like me that works different hours a chance to get into the shop. The reason I'm not giving 5 stars (and it's more a city of Edmonton causing already a limited situation to be worse), is that the closest place I could find to park on early Friday evening was 3.5 blocks away. I have a handicap pass for a very good reason. Walking is difficult for me most days. When I have no options to park closer, that really deters a visit to this shop. Thus I have to plan ahead and purposely ask about specific items to make sure it's worth my effort and higher pain levels to get there. As I've noted above, this is more a city of Edmonton causing a limited situation to be worse on and around the Whyte Ave area. Thus I recommend if you're mobility limited, try and go with someone that can drop you off closer to your destination or be prepared to carry whatever you have (in my case by one arm) or plan to bring a sturdy shopping bag to endure the distance. read more

Smells divine! Just returning from Hawaii it smelled... like vacation :-) my favourite! Just stepping in the door is a treat. What a wonderful shop to visit. Check the coolers for ready-to-go arrangements, or see the flowers, and have them create something special just for you. Even live plants definitely! Gift items of all types from home decor, to fabulous scarves, lotions, mirrors... so many delightful things! Do not forget to visit downstairs. Amazing selection of decor items! Look up - look waaaay up! There are items all the way up the walls! We had a great time making our own green table centrepiece wandering the Yelp Shops Whyte as part of Old Strathcona. Came to Laurel's on Whyte today for the first time as part of Yelp Shops Local. We were totally blown away by the adorable shop with a secret hidden additional basement store! Laurel's offers up fresh custom flowers, adorable knick knacks, one of a kind jewelry, and seasonal decor ranging from affordable to high end. My toddler picked up an adorable "boingy" bouncing snowman and my Mom picked up some delicious ginger candy! Seriously - best ginger candy EVER! Jon (or maybe John) the shop owner was kind enough to let us sample a few candies and even gave my daughter a special butterscotch candy given that ginger wasn't really her thing. The staff were friendly, professional, and offered assistance cheerfully. I will definitely think of Laurel's on Whyte again in the future for a speciality gift or seasonal decoration to add to our ever growing collection. read more

Laurel's has always been a pleasure to visit. With two levels, there is lots to explore and treasures to discover. Then there are the flowers, of course. and the supurb arranging. Lately we needed an arrangement for a funeral. We had specific colours in mind, but no idea of how such flowers should be displayed. The girl at the front walked us through considerations such as: rather than having too many flowers to enjoy opening up later, you want many of the flowers already open for this special day at the front of the church. We have been going to Laurels on Whyte for around 20 years, since their storefront was directly on Whyte ave. They use to be a our #1 florist, however their quality, designs, and customer service has gone downhill significantly. Read below for more details. Rude staff: Been treated very rude multiple times, which was saddening as a regular customer who drops hundreds of dollars at a time in their store. Major attitude from the employees many times. As a business person I find this disappointing. Good loyal customers should be treated with respect. Also, walked in and asked for a $60-$70 arrangement and they treated me like a peasant. Coming from the woman wearing a $7,000 Tiffany bracelet. LOL Crappy Customer Service: Also, if you buy flowers from their storefront outside (that have been sitting in the heat or cold) and they don't survive for more than 3 days after you buy them, don't expect them to give you any customer service. Wouldn't even suffice for a photo of the dead flowers, they said we would have had to bring the dead flowers in. No one has time to do this. Disappointing Design: Don't walk in and find a wonderful arrangement that I love any more. Very dark colors like burgundy in the spring. Would like to see more light pink etc in the spring. Also very disappointing at Christmastime. Would like to see more white and green arrangements and less dark colors. Not everyone wants purples or reds at Christmastime. Expensive to buy flowers out of the cooler: If you want to buy a variety of your own cut flowers from the cooler, they charge you and arm and a leg. Very expensive for a bouquet: Tried to get a bouquet for grad, and their starting price was $300! read more

What great service! ..and great plant choices obviously. I went in with a container and left with a beautiful succulent arrangement! The staff made me pick my succulents, color combo of rocks and sand and explained how she was layering everything so I could do this again by myself. It was like a mini class. It took her about twenty minutes and answered all my questions. The arrangement ended up costing around $40. There's more than just plants and flowers as well. My husband bought me flowers from here on Valentines Day ... spent $150.00 , the stargazer lilies barely opened and turned brown and the ginger dried up in 4 days. I sent an email and pictures of the bouquet to Laurel's they called me back telling that their " protocol" is that I would have had to tell within 48 of any issues with the flowers or nothing could be done. They made me feel as if I had caused the flowers to die ... perhaps put them by an open window (not!) and was simply some kind of scum bag looking for a free replacement since I was the only person that complained about the quality of the flowers they delivered on Valentine's Day ... no I am not that kind of person, I was simply looking to receive quality flowers for the money spent. This was the worst customer experience I have ever received. Avoid this place at all costs and buy from Graham and Lane ! read more

I've loved Laurel's flowers for many years, and used to stop here regularly on special occasions when I would want to get flowers for loved ones. The bouquets were always dramatic and beautiful and would last much longer than flowers purchased at a grocery store (as they should). Whenever I would purchase bouquets, I would get instructions on how to take care of them, and they were always packaged well for the trip home. When the time came for me to start looking for a florist for my wedding, I was really excited to see that Laurel's also does wedding services. I decided I wanted to do all the florist appointments in one weekend, so I called about ten days ahead of time to book a consult. They don't do wedding consultations on Saturdays and Sundays, but I was given my choice of times in the evening on the Thursday or Friday prior to the weekend, so I selected the slot that worked best for my schedule. The day of my appointment the shop called to tell me that the wedding consultant had come down with the flu and they would have to reschedule my appointment. I was disappointed, but I can't fault someone for being sick. What caused me to be more upset is that the next available appointment slot was three weeks from my scheduled appointment. I feel like I was bumped to the back of the queue waiting for a consult, with my rescheduled time being over a month from when I first called the shop. It's fully reasonable to assume that they are very busy this time of year, but if appointments are that difficult to get, it made me worry that it would be a struggle to schedule follow-up visits if I did hire Laurel's for my wedding. In the end, I hired a different florist and cancelled my consult. I'll still be a customer for the occasional arrangement, but unfortunately, not as a bride. read more

Over the last year i have began to make a diligent effort to shop local and support shops that make doing so a pleasure. Laurels is one of those places. Lori told me tricks to keep my flowers alive, what is special and different about shopping at local flower shops rather then supermarkets and the best ways to cut flower. This in itself is a reason to stop in. Another and really the main reason, is the flowers are amazing, fresh, great selection and never boring. If you are looking for a creative, unique look this is the place, modern and classy! Laurel's has been responsible for several of my families events including my parent's 50th Anniversary where the flowers arrived and far exceeded my expectations! I'll preface this review by saying that I'm not really a flowers person. I can tell you what a rose looks like, I can tell you what a callalily looks like, maybe some baby's breath, and then I'm stumped. I really like flowers, I just don't know them all too well. But I am a dog person, so I was pleasantly surprised to be greeted at Laurel's Flowers by owner Lori and her weimaraner dog, Ellie May. Both were very friendly and loved ear scratches (no, just kidding, that would be weird). The shop is really beautiful, and Lori mentioned that they'll be moving around the corner in July to a bigger space. I can't wait to see what it looks like when they open up there! Lori spent an hour with me, going over all of the flowers I might need for my wedding, and she really listened to what colours and style I wanted. She also provided tons of helpful suggestions (she's been in the biz for a while and definitely knows what she's talking about) but there was no pressure to take them. I stopped into Laurel's today during the 2014 Yelp Shops Local event and was totally dazzled. The bouquets were colorful and the arrangements were stunning. Anything from here would make the perfect gift for that someone special or help to jazz up the table at home with a much needed splash of color during the cold grey winter months. The pre made things we looked at ranged anywhere from twenty to eighty dollars which is pretty typical of most flower shops. If flowers don't tickle your fancy Laurel's has other offerings like ornaments,jewelry,and skin care. My favorite part of the store today though had to be all the Christmas things. I picked up a cute little old fashion metal Christmas sign that I plan to hang near our tree and I couldn't be happier. The staff were really friendly and the gentleman working was kind enough to dig out some samples of hand cream that I had been contemplating for me. (I think he could tell the price made me leery of purchasing without being able to sample first lol) Even if your from the North side like myself Laurel's is one place worth visiting the other side of the city for. Such an adorable little (not so little) shop tucked right off Whyte avenue on 104th street. I would always walk by and see the beautiful flowers outside, so a few weeks ago I finally went in. They have a huge selection of local gifts, like candles, lotions, purses,scarves and cute little home-decor pieces. You have to check out the basement, its huge and there's so much down there! I almost forgot they were first and foremost a flower shop. My friend loves bird of paradise flowers, and they always seem to have them when I go to make a bouquet which is amazing, and they also have a great selection of pre-made arrangements if you're in a rush. They even give you little instructions on proper care of the flowers for once you're at home. I love to shop local, and it isn't too hard with cute stores like Laurel's! read more

I both received and ordered flower arrangements from Laurel's on White, when I my mother passed away. The arrangement I received was gorgeous, lasted a long time and uplifted my spirits every time I saw them. So I put in a request for my mom's service. I was distressed as I did this late and really wanted to an arrangement that included her favourite flowers and colours. I'm sad to be writing this review. For years I've loved Laurels & their flower design skills. I feel like I get the shaft from them when I order flowers, though. Knowing it was my fave flower shop, friends have ordered birthday bouquets for me from there. Both times I got sub-standard flowers. I always get gerberas, A beautiful, happy looking & long lasting daisy-like flower. Both times I've picked up the bouquet only to be disappointed by wilting flowers, brown spots all over the petals or a significant number of petals missing (as though bad petals have been pulled out) so that the flower looks like a butterfly than a circle. This is so disappointing as I love flowers, but instead of enjoying them when I look at them, I see only how poor the quality of the flowers is. Each time I've complained & each time I'm given an excuse (I should have pulled out the bad flower or I shouldn't have bought flowers when it was so hot or at least I should have a refrigerated truck to transport them home). Laurels doesn't seem bothered by the fact their flowers look crappy after 3 days while flowers I've bought from the grocery store have lasted for weeks. They never apologize & this time they asked me to bring the bouquet all the way back (store is 50 mins from my place) to see 'if, maybe we can do something. But I'm not sure we can.' My view is, if you screw up, you should own up & apologize & offer replacements. I'm unfollowing them on twitter, unliking them in Facebook, and finding a new favourite flower shop. read more

I love floral shops. Flowers, plants, amazing arrangements, fragrant bouquets and fabulous fauna just makes me happy. I could spend hours touring flower markets and be a very content little Jennie. What is the one place I may just love shopping in, next to floral shops, that is? Well that would be home decor shops... And guess what; Laurels entire bottom floor (and part of the main) is a wonderful space with adorable gifts galore for the home. I liked this store and my husband and I bought flowers frequently from here. However, about a month ago we were looking for a present for a friend and the employee was incredibly rude. He never greeted us or asked if we needed help. The only time he spoke to us was to tell me that I shouldn't be snapping the lids on the perfume containers back on but screwing it on. It would have been okay if he was polite about it but his tone was so rude that my husband and I left what we were going to buy and exited the store immediately. Although I am born and raised Canadian, I was speaking to my husband in Japanese so it made me wonder whether he thought we didn't understand English or recognise how rude he was. Ordered over the phone, for a dear relative who lost her husband suddenly and tragically. The person I spoke with was absolutely wonderful - caring and efficient. She made the experience as positive as it could have been. She was lovely, and very respectful of the sensitivity of the situation. I ordered over the telephone a "bright mix" hand tied arrangement for Mother's Day for 100.00 and my mother received mostly white flowers. The hydrangea was already wilted, the snapdragon wilted, and the spider mom fully open ready to drop its petals. My Aunt who contacted Laurels on Whyte was an experienced, retired wedding florist who thought the arrangement that was delivered was not the freshest bouquet. The store owner telephoned me on Tuesday to enquire about the flowers and said that he would send a replacement bouquet to my mother. This bouquet was full of incredibly fresh and brightly colored flowers and my mother was very overwhelmed by this lovely bouquet.
