I have to commend the employees for being so patient, because impatient customers can be really rude. The times I've gone, I've been met with kindness. My husband and I decided to try our hand at Whataburger before going to see a movie. It was only about a week after the grand opening and the drive thru line has been insane. The security guards in the drive thru line suggested we go in. It would be quicker. They were definitely right! The employees were friendly, but there seemed to be too many in the lobby and a couple were standing around trying to figure out what to do. One of the managers was in the front greeting everyone, she has a great personality. We ordered, got our food, all in a decent time and it was good. Nothing to brag about though. I will be VERY generous and give this location a rating of 3 stars. That is a combined score from my two visits. Visit number one was during the big grand opening. It was fun and we got some WB swag while waiting in line. The order was delivered quickly and tasted great. Just like I remember it when they were in Memphis decades ago. Five stars. Visit #2 didn't go so well (today). I got a craving and decided to battle the traffic and visit this location again. It took about 45 minutes to get there. Waited 10 minutes in line and then waited 30 minutes on my order. It never did arrive. Finally I asked someone to check on it. They walked to the back and immediately came out and handed me a bag. I have a feeling it had been sitting on the counter for 25 minutes. I felt the bottom of the bag and yep stone cold. When I informed the lady who brought me the bag, she said she would make another one. They wanted me to be satisfied. At this point, I had invested almost an hour and a half of my time and was rewarded with a cold burger. I had another 45 minute drive ahead of me and didn't have time for them to start over. And I had very little confidence they would get it right. Oh and they had run out of the banana milk shake that I wanted. One Star. This place is way to overrated. I finally tried this place for the first time due to the line previously being so long and it definitely wasn't worth the 15 min wait for a fast food chain. The burgers are dry and has no flavor (even when freshly prepared). The onion rings and fries are probably the best thing on the menu. This place is over priced. The fries are similar to McDonald's but not the same either. I do like that they have several options for the ketchup flavor but I would never return here for a burger. She was very rude. She had just come on duty so it couldn't be she was hot & tired. Just a young kid with braces. Possibly the rudest order taker I've ever dealt with. When you come in it is nice and clean but workers are slow. The lady before me was waiting a half an hour for one meal and behind me when I sat was a family that's been waiting for an hour. The line outside barley had any one in it but workers were on their phones and completely walking around like they did not have to serve any one. We were excited to finally have a Whataburger in our area. We stop frequently on road trips. No matter which location, we get friendly service and good food. It's like they have a general set of standards they expect for their stores even though it's fast food (imagine that). That is not the case here. You'd think there would have been a regional manager on site or something since they just opened last week. If there was...yikes. For a brand new location, you'd expect great customer service in the beginning, at least. Nope. I was greeted by the drive thru attendant with, "Name?" I gave my order, and she told me my total, which she said was $9.88. I questioned it because I ordered 2 combos. She looked at her iPad again and said, "$19.88." That is the extent of the interaction. No order confirmation, thanks for coming, nothing. Meanwhile, there was a group of employees gathered at the water cooler outside (at 9:30am) talking, cursing, and laughing, all where customers could hear. They were talking about how they were planning on not interacting with customers the way they were evidently trained. Quoting what sounded like corporate set greetings, etc. and then laughing about it. Again, all within earshot of customers. Later, their group was blocking my car from being able to pull up in the line. The attendant sweeping outside had to bring their attention to it. I got further up in line to pay. There was one person going to multiple cars at a time to collect payment and taking it back inside. They came and got the card from the car in front of me, mine, and car behind me all at the same time. She told me, "I don't know your total," took my card and walked away. She brought it back a few minutes later with a receipt. I can only hope my card wasn't used to pay for anyone else's order. I finally got my food after about 10-15 minutes after I paid. The order was incorrect. Shocking, based on my experience up to this point, right? We took off the toppings we requested NOT be included and tried to eat it anyway. The buns were as crunchy as the day-old fries and the burger was burnt. Hey, on a positive note, they got both of my drinks right!! Went to the restaurant on Getwell in Southaven it was the third time I've been there. My previous two visits were extremely long Waits . I would say an average of 10 minutes per car at the drive-thru. This time I arrived at 4:30 a.m. . There was one car waiting at the window and I pulled around and ordered and then pulled up behind this car. We waited approximately 20 minutes. I debated pulling away and leaving but I already invested 15 minutes of waiting so I hated to do that. I figured the car ahead of me must have a big order they were sitting there already when I pulled up and I have been there almost 20 minutes. Finally they handed the order to this person in this car and it was a small bag that looked to be only one sandwich. They drove off I pulled up and got my one sandwich. Total wait time around 20 minutes. I don't understand why it takes them so long. I had said I would not go back after the other two excessively long Waits . Whataburger was the first burger I ate as a child growing up in the Frayser area of Memphis. Whataburger left and Memphis moved on and I've had a lot of burgers since from Top's, In-N-Out, and my favorite of all-time, Burgers Never Say Die in Los Angeles. Coming back to the Memphis area, Whataburger did not return to Frayser (some shade) which it could have done a lot of good in a neglected area of the city. I drove to Southaven to find large people in large vehicles having large burgers and my god the cup for the combo is huge (think McD's old Super Size), I felt bad accepting it. The cashier had to reassure me this was the only size. I filled the cup only half way, no refills. The burger smelled as my 3 year old self remembered but tasted as my older tasted Sonic Drive-In. I go to Sonic for the chili cheese hot dogs. Childhood rekindled. Everything is bigger in Texas, Southaven is a collection of fast food restaurants and houses with no downtown center. read more
