Stopped by Westwood Cafe when we were vacationing in the area. It was very average. We got the specials, sausage gravy skillet and cinnamon roll French toast. The service was quick but the food just wasn't that great. We will look for something else next time we are in town. read more

Hands down the best breakfast spot in all of central Minnesota. Service is excellent and the food is always top notch. Today was my first time eating at the Westwood cafe. I'm a little disappointed. Our food was ok, not great not bad. The service however, could have been a lot better. I ordered a curbside pickup order and tried calling the provided number when I arrived. The line was busy most of the time and when it finally rang there was no answer. I went inside with my mask on to get my order. I was not acknowledged by any of the 3 girls in the front. They were not working with another customer they were just talking amongst themselves. I finally got my order and checked my bank statement to make sure I was charged right. I was overcharged by 15 dollars! I don't know how I'm going to get my money back as I was barely acknowledged in the first place. read more

Called for reservation. Had a family of 10. They put us in a room by ourselves, so we thought. Half way thru the meal they seated another table of 4. Not 6 feet apart from us. The restaurant was full. Half the waitresses worn their masks around their chins. When we asked they had no clue what the rules were. Not happy. Food was so so. Need to follow guidelines. The first impression I had of this place was of a small-town cafe with a lot of charm. That impression was spot-on. It took us about 10-20 minutes to get our seats, which isn't unreasonable, but a little surprising for a cafe like that. They were unexpectedly busy, but after eating the food, I could see why. They carry coffee from Caribou, so my cappuccino was perfectly fine but not anything amazing. However, the french toast that I ordered was excellent. It was deliciously moist, but not soggy, and the ratio of sweetness to mildness was great. It may not have been the best french toast I ever had, but it was excellent. Westwood Cafe was one of my favorite places to eat when I could get around to eating there on the weekdays, but after my last visit no matter how much I love the pancakes I will not return to this establishment. My family is multicultural. My fiance and I walked in with our 10 month old daughter on a Sunday and for several minutes the hosts kept passing us and never came over to seat us. A group of Caucasian patrons came in behind us and both hosts walked over to them and asked them how many were in their party and were swift to get them seated. We waited there patiently. I had to walk over to the cashier and ask her were they going to find somewhere for us to sit. The only positive was that our waitress was friendly, but the entire time we were at our table we felt eyes on us. Never been so uncomfortable eating in my life. I'm usually quite bold about where I'll eat for breakfast because breakfast foods are incredibly simple. I ate here on a whim because yelp showed a 3.5 star rating. The service was great, servers were attentive and responsive. The restaurant wasn't extremely busy when we got there, but it wasn't empty either. That said, we waited 30-40 minutes to get our food and it was absolutely flavorless when we finally did. It had the appearance of regular food, smelled like the breakfast items that we'd ordered but was simply void of anything resembling flavor. I got hash browns, eggs, toast, and sausage; the sausage was like a tube stuffed with grease and grains of wild rice (which kind of explains why the biscuits and gravy were so bland), completely void of any flavor. My partner got biscuits and gravy; how could biscuits and gravy turn out that bland? Even after salting and peppering it, there was zero flavor, zero. Complete disappointment. We picked at our meals, paid and spent the next 45 minutes of the drive debating how it could have possibly come out that bad. Despite our misadventure, I would give them another chance if we happen to find ourselves in Spicer, MN again. Every restaurant is entitled to have a bad day here and there. Hands down my go-to-spot for breakfast in Spicer, MN. I usually order 1 of 2 things. The eggs benedict are perfect and taste amazing with just the right amount of hollandaise sauce. Another favorite of mine is the raspberry fritter French toast that comes with yummy local wicks wild rice sausage. Love the food here, especially the Monte Cristo and the meatloaf sandwich. Since I'm a Spicer native, I enjoy all the historical decor. One thing I do not like is that they have a TV in one corner, which really seems to be more for the staff than the guests. It was blaring the local news, while there was already music playing in the background. Very annoying. read more

We stopped in here for Sunday breakfast on the recommendation of the owners of the resort we were staying at. They said it was the best breakfast around. We thought it as really good! I had the Breakfast Burrito and my husband has the Bacon and Spinach Omelet. Both really good. My American fries were just OK - they could have had more seasoning.
