What's not to like? Lu Lu Beans coffee shop in Willmar is one of the cutest coffee shops I've ever "bean" to. Ha, ha. The small sign outside says "Welcome home friends" which hints at the overall atmosphere you'll experience at this popular Willmar coffee shop. Old guys with bald heads and white chin beards gather around a small table on the patio to sip coffee, discuss their golf game and gripe about the rising cost of home owners' insurance. Nearby, a couple of moms in yoga pants catch up before launching into their busy day. Inside, a 20-something works remotely at a table not much bigger than her laptop. And there's me. A not-so-young-anymore dad from the cities with nothing better to do than hunt for a good espresso and write wordy Yelp reviews. I ordered a daily brew, my usual, which was fine. TBH not any better than coffee out of my Keurig. They had an espresso category on their chalkboard menu but I didn't see that a simple cup of espresso was an option. I could be wro Nevertheless, it's the vibe of the place that makes Lu Lu's so special. Set in an old house? Gas station? Country store? I don't know, but I love the friendly, homey feel. The different rooms have your usual tables and chairs, but also comfy oversized chairs, couches and love seats. Want to work remotely? No problem- tables and chairs of all sizes. Want to hang out and chat with your bestie or curl up with your favorite book (or electronic device)? Check! Looking for a cozy patio surrounded by potted plants? Got you covered. (Literally, the patio is covered by a lattice pergola covered in vines that crest a nice shade on a sunny day). I also love that the walls are covered in employees' artwork. Some of it is even for sale. The decor is well curated country chic with lots of live plants, cute antiques and I feel like there's got to be a cat quietly snoozing the day away somewhere around here. (Probably not really, but it wouldn't surprise me to feel something furry brush up against my leg). Lu Lu Beans coffee shop is as if your oddly hip grandma was a tattooed, big city barista who decided to start a new life in Willmar after working for Martha Stewart. It's a good thing. read more

I was looking for a nice latte for my morning fix. Lu Lu beans was close to our hotel and I headed there. Such a cute place. It's a former home turned into a coffee shop. Intimate rooms allow you to enjoy your coffee or do some work. Many were sitting out on the patio enjoying lively conversation. Staff was very friendly. My latte was nice and hot and flavorful. I bought some beans and found they source their coffee from Uproasters in the Twin Cities area. Great stop. read more

Came here on a day trip to Willmar and just adored it! Such a charming coffee shop with so many different rooms to explore. I loved the atmosphere and how much thought they put into decorating all the different seating areas. To eat/drink, I had a cinnamon roll and a matcha latte with oat milk. The cinnamon roll was so sweet and buttery, and the matcha is one of the best I've had. The service was fast and the staff was friendly. I would definitely come back here and recommend it to anyone going to Willmar or passing through. read more

Lulu Beans staff have ALWAYS treated me with respect and patience and answered questions that I've had regarding their big menu. The building is so cute and they have decent seating available inside and out. It gets to be pretty busy during the rush hour and I've had to leave because there wasn't room to sit. The only other concern I have is the parking lot. I wish it was bigger or have better parking. The drive-thru line makes it difficult to park sometimes. They have wonderful baked goods, Special K & Rice Krispy bars, breakfast sandwiches and burritos, paninis (11am-2pm), drinks of all kinds, and cold sandwiches/desserts/wraps/salads in the cooler for reasonable prices! There are many trinkets and pieces of art, post cards/greeting cards, home decor, towels, books, clothing, and jewelry to purchase as well. I love Lulu Beans, and I come at *least* once every two weeks. Whenever anybody asks me about places to go here in Willmar, I always recommend Lulu Beans. read more

I could live here if they'd let me. Not because LuLu's is located in a house, but because it's located in a house --and also has great coffee and pastries and terrific lunches. And great spaces in which to hang. We were passing through Willmar on Highway 12. LuLu's is a bit off that road, but well worth the diversion. The panini sandwiches are fresh and delicious. The coffee varieties give one pause, and the baked goods are wonderful. Take your food and drink to any one of several rooms to enjoy. Choose from the main room where you place your order, to side rooms and porches with comfortable chairs or tables where you can also work, if you must. Or just curl up with a good book. Come for the cozy ambiance and friendly service, but not so much for the coffee. They have a few varieties of flavored drip coffee, and none of them are spectacular. There is a wide variety of other drinks to choose from (smoothies, tea, hot chocolate, etc.) and a good selection of baked goods. They even have some gluten free treats--they had a GF cookie and a GF cheesecake option when I was there, but I didn't get to try them so can't speak to their quality. I had a dragon pearl jasmine tea that was lovely, though brewed a tad too hot so it was a little bitter. If I ordered it again I would ask them to add an ice cube before steeping. As far as the setup--there are tons of cozy nooks and crannies to settle in and enjoy your drinks while catching up with friends. The staff makes you feel great. They always have a smile and they greet you by your name after a few visits. They make conversation and are always open to make suggestions if you ask them. Great coffee and food too. The place is very cozy and it's always clean. I have not turned back to any other coffee shop since I found this one about a year ago when I moved to Willmar, MN. This place is all that and then some! Great coffee and pastries with lunch options too. Stopped in for a meeting while in town for work. Someone I was with had a panini and swore it was the best they had had in a while and the muffin and cake options behind the glass looked tempting. I went with the iced coffee which was super strong and everyone else enjoyed the regular coffee and approved of the quality. The atmosphere and different spots you can pick between to enjoy your coffee or food was nice and I think this is the coolest place to hang out in Willmar. read more

My favorite coffee house ever. Lulu has every type of environment that you could want in a coffeehouse and they all make you feel as if you haven't left home, because it is in a renovated house. Personally I favor the library portion for the warm cozy feel surrounded by take/leave bookshelves. You can find your book whether you are in a small group or by yourself. I order the house coffee because I get to have a mug to stay, and get to refill once when it ends. It's my suggestion if you are staying for a while. The staff had been wonderful every time that I have visited. They are helpful in explaining the menu or making coffee suggestions. There is also a drive through available if you want the product but don't have the time to enjoy the atmosphere. If you have a chance, I seriously suggest visiting. While at home I'm a Starbucks junkie, but when I'm traveling I like to support local businesses. I found Lu Lu Beans via Yelp and decided to give it a shot. My first morning I drove to the drive through but there was no menu so I parked the car and went inside. I found the chalkboard menu and set about deciding what to order. They had something called a "blended latte" which when described is more like a latte slushy then an iced latte. I just went with a regular latte since it was a cool morning. As I left, I noticed all their coffee pots with a variety of blends. The next morning I opted for a pumpkin spice coffee (which barely won out over the Lu Lu blend but I'm a sucker for pumpkin). The coffee was delish and I liked it more than my latte. The inside of Lu Lu's is really cute too. They have art from local artists and some sitting areas. I would have liked to spend a day there but I was in town on business so stopping for coffee was all I had time for! read more

This is truly a hole in a wall coffee shop in this tiny town. Everytime I visit from California this is my go to place for coffee and pastries. I haven't been here in a couple years so today I got my usual... iced caramel latte with whip. I can honestly say this is hands down the most satisfying latte I've had in a long time. Starbucks and Caribou coffee Lattes are too sweet and don't even taste like coffee. As a Latte lover, it is made to perfection for my personal likings.
