Bring you Starlink there is a good view of the the northern horizon. It is a quiet and clean basic park. Definitely should not be called a Resort. WiFi requires no password. Most attempts to connect to the WiFi fail. You will have to use your phone to create a Personal Hot Spot. If you do connect to the WiFi the Internet connection is slow and erratic. Most web sites timeout before you get a connection. This is ancient gear. An inexpensive mesh network with outdoor antennas would solve the problem. The front desk did not know who their internet carrier was. If the carrier is supplying any reasonable speed of 50 to 100 Mbps on a mesh network all would be usable.

Now they do have a fairly strict list of rules to follow which was no problem for us but it does make for a clean and quiet park. My main sense about how good an RV park is, is how clean are the restrooms and showers. This park scores a perfect 100 in my book for restrooms and showers. They even have a sign which says something to the effect of, first showers in the morning, it'll take a bit for the hot water to get there. Turn on the sinks and let them run until you get hot water. Perfect! At six in the morning I probably would have been a bit upset had I not known about the time it takes to get hot water. The entire park was laid out well so it felt relaxing. So whenever I plan a fishing trip out of Westport, those plans will include American Sunset RV.

Had a great time fishing for bottom fish on this boat. We started with rock fish which did not…read moretake long to get the boats limit of 7 fish each. The skipper actually dropped the anchor to fish this spot which something that I have not seen on the ocean. We used live bait (anchovies) which kind of surprised me, but it was effective. We used light gear with 10 lb test line which was really a hoot. From there we moved a short distance and fished for flounder. These fish were small, but we were motivated because the flounders were to be the bait for our true target, which was ling cod. After the flounder we moved to another spot in deeper water to fish for ling cod. This spot was in deeper water so we couldn't anchor but the skipper did a great job of keeping us over the fish. We limited out with 2 nice size ling cods per person and a few extras for the crew. The deckhand did a great job keeping us rigged up and baited. He also filleted all the fish for a good price and did a great job. The only downer was my mistake. I like to follow the track of the boat using my phone and a marine map. Apparently, this is a huge no no. They are concerned with people stealing their spots. I totally understood the skippers concern, so I turned off my phone and put it away. As angry as he got, I'd think he would put up a sign or something telling folks that gps tracking is verboten. Or maybe something in the terms and conditions. I would definitely go bottom fishing on this boat again. The skipper has good knowledge and boat skills. If there are bottom fish to be had, he will put you on them.

I also worked on a charter boat and have taken many tuna fishing trips out of Ilwaco primarily. This was by far the worst experience with a captain I have ever had. The communication was poor at best. Apparently Captain Randy's primary boat went down and an email telling us to switch boats and docks never went out. The five of us showed up at the scheduled 3 AM and nobody was there. Randy's response to a text was "did you not get the email I sent last night" well no shit Randy! He then told us to arrive at 5 AM at the other dock of which he was late. We didn't leave the dock until 6 AM. We proceeded to go out to sea and we did catch 30 tuna. His deck hand could not believe it when Randy said pack it up we're heading in two hours early. Captain Randy is an arrogant jerk. Not one positive word came out of his mouth the entire day as he bashed his boat, the two women he took out the day before, And how to belittle people who have not fish before. When arriving back at the dock, the five of us gave a $330 tip to JP. More than he was worth for sure. Nothing was provided on this boat. Not water not snacks not anything besides bad advice. Randy went on a tirade stating we should tip 20% of the fee which would have been $100 each. Apparently he doesn't understand the process of tipping. Randy himself paid his deckhand 5% of what he took in that day. The going rate, according to another captain, is $20-$50 per person to the deckhand depending on how outstanding he is. Do not take this Charter. The captain is a single, 5 foot four, narcissist that apologizes for nothing. He continued to tell us how many years he's been fishing, like we give a shit. I would have given zero stars but that's not an option.
