Upon arriving on the boat we had to sign in and get our number for the salmon fishing. When we got to fish for salmon I had caught a 2 keepers and my wife caught a king, one of the fish I caught I had to fight it down the side of the boat with the deckhand helping me, we got it netted and it was a keeper, the fish hit the deck and I got back to my position on the boat, a few minutes later I told the deckhand my number but he gave that fish to someone else for some reason, I was quite confused and couldn't really comprehend this.. I caught another one and the captain was right there, again a keeper, I told the captain my number and he told me that he'll get me... about another .5 hours and we were all catching mackerel or sharks where coming in... at the last drop I caught a nice coho at 22.5" , this is when a deckhand asked me my number I told him... We pulled up lines and headed for rock fishing, at this time a deckhand came by asking for fishing licenses, I have mine electronically and my wife had a day pass... so when the deckhand put down on my wife's and I catch card that we both caught a chinook and a coho I was like oh ok they figured it all out and that was that.. finished the day got back to the dock and they had the fish all packaged and what not... one guy had the same issue as us.. he only got 1 fish even though the catch card showed 2 on his... We got ours and again only 1 fish for both of us even though our catch card explicitly stated 2 fish, when asked about it the deckhand just said "I don't know" and that was that... So the experience was nice, the fishing was bad ass, collecting our fish is where the problem was... 2 deckhands 18 anglers fish all over and people are loosing their catch, gotta figure out a better strategy to make sure that the people who caught fish keeps their fish... so now I have a catch card that shows I caught 2 but was only given 1 at the end.... Not happy with that

He gave us the option to reschedule or give it a shot knowing the bite could come back any time. We chose to reschedule for a few days out. On fishing day, there were only 4 of us anglers, Captin Jarrid, and our deck hand Ayden. Jarrid & Ayden set the trolling lins out and we hit the tuna real quick. A couple guys landed, but the bite died down. They set the trolling lines out again, switched jigs a couple times and we hit the tuna school again. It was non stop action till we finally ran out of bait. We got tons of fish. Awesome group of guys on board. Jarrid & Ayden worked real hard and this trip was more than worth it. I went in to Hookers and Blow and was greeted instantly by a helpful employee that took me directly to what I was looking for. We didn't get skunked, but only got maybe 5 keepers on a boat of ~19 people. The captain tried hard to find the fish, but it seemed like no boats were doing well that day given the radio conversations I overheard. That's fine it happens. The deckhand was mostly fine if a little brash and impatient for newbie mistakes. Besides the fishing itself there were definitely other things that could be improved. The boat cabin interior was filthy. Dirty and broken sink, left over food, overflowing trash and random crap strewn about. Looked like a frat house. The coffee included for guests was like stale Folgers. There wasn't a good system to store your stuff so it ended getting sat on or kicked around by other people. The captain could not smoke. I mean I'm already breathing diesel exhaust for hours on end, I don't need second hand smoke too. Probably also made sea sickness worse for people who had it.

A friend…read moreof mine loves this place because he used to come down here with his wife when she was still alive and it is near and dear to his heart. He convinced a bunch of us friends to check it out and well, it's nice. We ordered our seafood lunches at Merino's and I was excited about eating at the tables on the curb. He really wanted us to wait and eat at the beach. Okay! That sounds awesome. Five minutes later we're at the park and the picnic benches had no view of the beach. You literally were sitting at a bench next to the parking lot. At least it was right next to the restrooms. Then he wanted to walk around the shore. The path did technically see the shore, but the distance was like half a mile and these senior citizens were not going down to the sand. My sister and I were not going to miss being actually on the beach, so we ran down the the beach head and it was nice, but it was cold so we didn't go in the water. We later headed up to hang out with our senior friends and it didn't look good. They got to the first bench and one of our friends has a bad knee, another has leg cramps, another didn't feel steady, and another was doing great because she brought her walker with her and was getting in her steps. Our fearless leader was planning on walking another mile and a half to the lighthouse but my sister put the kibosh on that. We would've been fine, but looking at these poor ladies, they needed to walk back to the car before they couldn't. I felt bad for our leader because he wanted to show us the magic of this place, but naw, maybe next time because these ladies need help. I will give the beach area props because they are very accessible, but even with that, you have to know what your people can handle.

Conditions were less than ideal, it's March and that's what we signed up for. The boat limited! It wasn't easy, but if you want to catch fish to bring home and have a Capt actually bust his ass, disregard fuel consumption to get you on fish to fill that Freezer then Capt Dave is your guy. HIGHLY RECCOMENDED. Fished with Dave three times, every time with limits! Next trip in May. Can't wait.

On their way to West Port Sunday August 30, 2020 my husband Roger received a phone call from Mariann stating the trip was cancelled due to weather. Roger was confused since the forecast was good and they still had a day before they were to leave. Mariann said their forecast looked bad and they were cancelling. Roger called one of the men that were already at West Port and told him their boat was cancelled. Roger was told that the boat was loading right then to leave for a 2 day tuna trip that night. Roger called Marianne who passed him on to Dave asking why was the trip loading for that night? Dave told him that Fridays trip was cancelled due to bad weather so he was taking the men out that night and bumped our crew. We also found out later that the other five men who were to leave with us on the 31st got moved to the 30th? WHAT? We did receive our money back but what about the gas for two vechicles (five hours each way), the time off these men took, and the tuna they were hoping to catch. (The boat came back loaded. ) This trip was planned, paid for, agreed to in writing in January 2020.
