The first day, we checked out the Fisherman's Boardwalk and crabbed/fished for over 7 hours. Caught a few Sea bass and limited out on Dungeness Crab! It was a pretty enjoyable day. Our second and third days were not as good because the weather was a bit colder, cloudy and very windy. Took a while to get our limit of crabs, but had no such luck getting the fish we wanted. Overall, we all had a whole lot of fun on our 3-day trip to Westport, WA! Got an ample amount of Dungeness Crab to take home and some Sea bass as well. Definitely needed a Vacay away from home and also from work. Even a short trip like this was beneficial to relax and rejuvenate ourselves.

We went to the Marina one year for a pirate festival in which people of course dressed as pirates but a good runner up was mermaid costumes. It was a good time! You can also go on the jetty and get a great view of the Olympic Mountains and see the town of Ocean Shores across the water. Good views from the jetty and it gets even better going to where the fishermen are on the boardwalk. There is also a tower to go up on the west side of the marina for good views as well. When Steve and I were walking along the docks and bridges of the marina we spotted a some aquatic wildlife like harbor seals and jellyfish.

It was nearly impossible to go outside of our RV without being constantly attacked and bitten. Our legs were covered with bites that made our 3 nights stay very uncomfortable. We therefore opted to stay on the beach for the majority of the day then retreat much later to eat and sleep in our RV. After speaking with other campers, it became obvious that 178 was the worst for insect bites. Most sites didn't have as a severe problems as we did. Should we ever visit again, we will avoid 178 at all cost... Otherwise, Ocean Shores is a very sleepy community. Our best memories were hunting down 3 Garage Sales and meeting some great residents. Restaurant prices are very high as we weren't' going to pay $37 for a pizza or $34 for meager Fish & Chips (takeout)! The driving beach adjacent to the town was very crowded but once you go north of the Casino, it became more spread out and enjoyable. My advice? Go north my son, go north, and try and avoid the town entirely (unless you have kids)!

We received 26 fish combined. Our fish were the only ones delivered whole; the other eight fishermen's fish were loined at sea while underway for Westport. The cannery weighed our 26 fish at 310 pounds in the round. I immediately questioned the Mutineer manager, who said she had watched our fish being evenly divided but admitted she had not seen the loins or their sizes. We were told the captain would be notified and contact me. Forty-eight hours later, neither the captain nor the manager has responded. Based on the size of the overall catch and what we observed, we believe our share was substantially under-delivered. The claimed average of 11 pounds per fish does not appear credible in my experience nor that of any local I talked with. We had tipped the crew appropriately and simply expected our full share of the catch. I am asking Mutineer Charters to explain how our fish were handled and account for the apparent 200 pound discrepancy.

The drive on the beach turns towards the left. Went quite a ways down with cars lines up. Lots of kites and picnics. Sand seemed pretty packed down, which made the drive great! The beach was clean, and the fresh air was nice. You can also hike to the left, and it was peaceful and not as busy. The entrance also has parking, porta-potty, and one garbage can outside of the porta-potty. The upkeep on the porta-potty needs to be updated. It's disgusting, and the beach is such a nice location. I'm giving a five-star since this beach brings all the amazing PNW to one location. Beautiful bluffs, green landscape, and the amazing beach....Just wait until the next town to go to the bathroom. We will be returning again soon.

It filled my hopes that there's still parts of the earth that are untouched and yet to be hit by consumerism or tourism. We could drive straight on to the sand which was surreal, and even got to go clamming. In the evening (low tide) people come from all over the state to try their hand at clamming. Tip: you need to get a clam license beforehand and that will limit the amount of clams you can snag from the beach (you also bring your own equipment). The sunset is gorgeous, as it reflects on the puddles of water on the beach. Highly recommend.

A friend…read moreof mine loves this place because he used to come down here with his wife when she was still alive and it is near and dear to his heart. He convinced a bunch of us friends to check it out and well, it's nice. We ordered our seafood lunches at Merino's and I was excited about eating at the tables on the curb. He really wanted us to wait and eat at the beach. Okay! That sounds awesome. Five minutes later we're at the park and the picnic benches had no view of the beach. You literally were sitting at a bench next to the parking lot. At least it was right next to the restrooms. Then he wanted to walk around the shore. The path did technically see the shore, but the distance was like half a mile and these senior citizens were not going down to the sand. My sister and I were not going to miss being actually on the beach, so we ran down the the beach head and it was nice, but it was cold so we didn't go in the water. We later headed up to hang out with our senior friends and it didn't look good. They got to the first bench and one of our friends has a bad knee, another has leg cramps, another didn't feel steady, and another was doing great because she brought her walker with her and was getting in her steps. Our fearless leader was planning on walking another mile and a half to the lighthouse but my sister put the kibosh on that. We would've been fine, but looking at these poor ladies, they needed to walk back to the car before they couldn't. I felt bad for our leader because he wanted to show us the magic of this place, but naw, maybe next time because these ladies need help. I will give the beach area props because they are very accessible, but even with that, you have to know what your people can handle.

The parking lot isn't far from the beach, but you walk down a sandy path which my 81 year old mom managed, but I'm worried about the walk back. It's sunny but cold. It was really hard to put a blanket down because the wind kept threatening to carry it away. This would be great on another day, but I don't know if it's ever not windy.
