If I could give a lower rating I would.I was looking to get on a charter for the first time in WA and had heard a lot about this company, so I thought it would be a good place to start. However, my experience was anything but pleasant. I was greeted by a lady who, when I didn't know everything, berated me. To make matters worse, as she got off the call, she hurled offensive remarks at me. Salty fisherman are one thing, but being rude, condescending, and calling people four-letter words is absolutely ridiculous. They were complete ***. So I was in town and I called to see if I could get on their boat for halibut fishing since it's only twice a week this was actually I believe only the third time the boat had gone out due to weather or other circumstances so they got me on the boat we went out there were only three other boats going out that day not because of bad weather but because of wind. We went about 55 miles off the coast felt great took my Dramamine I was ready to go as soon as we got there we all started fishing we all got our limit on halibut within about an hour and a half I think and then we went after lingcod and we limited on that as well in between the cod and the halibut I spent a few minutes on the bathroom floor as most of the other passengers did as well and I want to thank The crew for having a very clean boat and a clean bathroom floor for me to throw up. read more

We went out with capt. Phil on the Monte Carlo boat. Being on an ocean boat was a first for me, and we hit some rough sea. While I was nervous for a bit, I had full confidence in his skills. Driving a boat truly take skills, he would slow or adjust the direction to navigate the rough waters. Once settled it was a great day fishing. My party of 5 all limited. I hadn't been out on a charter since I was a kid. I took my son out and we had a blast. We were able to call up a couple days in advance and were able to get on the Discovery. We arrived a day early and got an Inn. Checked in early and the office staff was very friendly and informative. We arrived at the boat early and met the crew. Nice guys and really helped make this a good experience for my son. My brother-in-law and father-in-law also came and had a good time. We fished for salmon, but only pulled in silvers. A couple kings were caught. The boat limited on silvers so everyone took their limit home. One lady on the boat got really sick and the crew was helpful. They were all over the boat helping people with lines, bait, and netting fish. We saw a lot of Sun fish, a Puffin, and some Humpback's. I am already looking to see when I can book a bottom fishing trip. I can't wait to get back. Off topic- Being a Navy man I wasn't worried about getting sick. My son took Bonine early on and it worked great. Don't forget to take something and keep drinking fluids if you do get sick. read more

Words can't describe how great the deep water Ling Cod trip I took on the Hula Girl was on 9-10-20. They came highly recommended as it was my first time fishing with them. I've done a great deal of saltwater fishing and have caught many fish. This was no doubt the best trip I've experienced. How not to have a bad experience with Westport Charters by Charles Ciraolo. I was scheduled to go Albacore fishing on the Tornado Charter boat on September 3rd. Made reservations for two fishermen three months in advance.I live in San Diego Ca. and my friend lives in Omaha Neb. We flew to Seattle on the third of September arriving at 12 noon. I left San Diego at 8 am and my friend left Omaha at 5:30 am . We both arrived within minutes of each other. I turned my cell phone off when I boarded the plane and turned it back on when I landed in Seattle only to find out I had a voice message that our trip was cancelled. I was shocked as we both had bought first class fares. I immediately call the Westport Charters office to see why our trip was cancelled. I was told that it was because of bad weather. That part is okay as I would not want to go out in bad weather. What was not okay was that we were not informed before we left, as I left at 8 am. I was told that the Tornado took 10 hour of rough water to get to port and did not notify the office as the crew went to sleep after arriving at the dock. My question was why they did not call in on the radio or sat phone that they were not going out on September 3rd and to notify the fishermen of the cancellation. They had plenty of time to do that. I was not rude with my questioning and was told by the office girl, NOT TO COME BACK HERE AGAIN, and she hung up on me. She did say that there was openings on September 20th. But that would have meant buying new airfare. So we used all of our airfares to fly back home. I think there should have been more consideration to notify the fishermen that were coming from out of town, especially long distances. The local fishermen in the area were not effected as they probably arrived by car. No effort was made for some kind of compensation such as a future discounted trip or just something, at least an apology, instead of saying DON't COME BACK HERE AGAIN!!!!!!!! So beware if your flying from out of town, have them guarantee that they notify you before you leave home. read more

We went on Swifty with captain Chris for salmon fishing. Great time! The deckhands were very helpful and entertaining. Captain kept moving the boat when there were no signs of fish. 16 people on the boat and about 9 people caught one King salmon and lots of bass fish. They only net the salmon and not the bass, so our group of three lost 4 bass that day once they wanted us to bring the pole in (if bass is a keeper to you, request for net). Overall, amazing time with the crew and people on board. Left a litter after 5:30am and returned around 3:30pm. If you get sea sick, I highly recommend medicine or ear patches otherwise it'll be a looooooong time before you get back (endorsed by the one who got extremely sea sick even with medicine). read more

These guys were rated best fishing charter in WA state for a reason! My buddy and I went on a halibut, ling cod, and rock fish trip with this charter. Our captain Brian was extremely professional, and enthusiastic about catching fish. I remember that he was practically as excited as I was when I hooked my halibut! His deck hands were awesome--they baited lines quickly and had all of our catch filleted by the time we were back in Westport. Most importantly, we all caught our limit of one halibut per person all within about an hour of getting to the halibut grounds. That left the rest of the trip to fish for ling cod and rock fish. We caught over 1.5 ling cod per person (limit is two), and we were probably close to our limit of 10 rock fish per person (I caught 6 and my buddy caught 10). I can't say enough good things about the captain. I will hopefully be fishing again with them soon for salmon season! read more

I have never been on one of their charters but I can hands down say that they have the best selection of "Westport" sweatshirts, sweatpants, t-shirts, hats, jackets and blankets in town for little kid to XXXL sized adult apparel. I have a couple friends who are plus sized and they appreciate the fact that someone in town carries sweatshirts that will fit them. They have even expanded their "shop" to include some home decor and frozen treats. It doesn't matter what time of the year you are here, they are open everyday even if the big sliding door is closed. read more

Had the worse experience this weekend at Westport Charters, 1st of all we booked 12 spots totaling $3000 it was supposed to be a great time for all the guys in the family, once everyone one was out in the ocean they were told that only 6 poles could be in the water at a time, that meant that sometimes people were sitting out 3-4 hours without being able to fish, not one person was able to limit out, went to Westport charters to try and talk to someone, who turned out to be the owner he told me it was a rule, I asked where it was posted and he could not tell me, he actually mocked me and said I was just mad because my husband didn't catch any fish, however on the boat next to them everyone had a pole in the water, we later found out that Westport charters also owns that one so why different rules ? the lady working told me they assumed people knew that was how it worked. My 75 year old Father fell on the boat and not one crew member checked on him, when my Mother said something about that the women responded that maybe at that age he shouldn't be on the boat. We have been on lots of charters however never have we been treated so poorly and with such a lack of disrespect, we will never use them again, and I would advise my friends to look somewhere else. read more

Went out with captain Buzz and deckhand Jake on the Discovery. 15 of us paid $200.00 a piece for a combo trip. Salmon and bottom fish. To be fair we limited in 45 minutes. Next comes salmon fishing. 15 sportsmen catching 4 salmon keepers. Buzz was dreadfully inept at getting us over fish and communication as to how to get bites, primarily how deep to fish. He was good at getting us hung up on each others hear. A lot of money and hopes were wasted on this day, compliments of Buzz. Jake was a hard worker but had no connection to his customers. Maybe he was upset because he had to work with Buzz and know failure and cluster was imminent. He acted as though we were a bother when asked a question. Icing on a miserable day. All in all it was a a day full of disappoints that I will never repeat. My counsel is stay away from Buzz and the Discovery, if you want an enjoyable and productive day of salmon fishing. read more

I have been catching my limit on the Hula Girl since I was in junior high school back in the early 90's. Every trip was a blast and Captain Steve and Jason have always went above and beyond to make the trip fun. The only time we ever had any type of problems was last May, we came across a boat with engine problems in very choppy water and Captain Steve circled the boat for about 45 min until the Coast Guard arrived. Even after the 45 min delay Captain Steve got us on the fish and limited out and was back at the dock before most of the other boats. read more

My husband and I took a trip to Seattle, and we decided to try charter boat fishing. We got our spots reserved on the Sea Angel. We could not have gotten luckier. We went bottom fishing, so we arrived at Westport Charters to get our fishing licenses at 5:30 am. We boarded the Sea Angel shortly after and waited for the rest of the group to get there. When we were all set, Captain Brian went over safety and answered any questions we had. His personality and love for fishing came through immediately. He has been charter boat fishing his whole life- his dad's boat was docked next to ours, and his brother's was next to that. We left for the first spot, which was to find rockfish. We arrived at one of Brian's favorite places, but there were a lot of other boats there, so we moved a little ways away to another spot. Brian knew exactly where to go, and we all caught our limit of rockfish pretty quickly (I had no concept of time out there). I have been fishing all of 2 times in my life, so I had no idea what I was doing. Brian and his deckhand, Lacey, made it dummy proof, and before long, I was dropping my line in the ocean and pulling up rockfish very soon after that. After we caught our limit, we moved on to find ling cod. We moved several times as it was more challenging to catch these than it was to catch rockfish. It involved more patience and sport. You have to let out your reel until you don't feel any more slack, wait a bit, pull up, reel in 3 times slowly, pull up, repeat, then drop your line back down. I ended up getting lucky and I caught a large ling cod at our second stop. This whole time, Brian and Lacey have been running around helping people with their lines and baiting the hooks and grabbing the net and bleeding the fish. They worked very hard. I never had to touch bait or a fish. On our way back to port, Lacey filleted all those fish we caught and divided them up into bags with our sign-in number. My husband and I ended up with a total of 32 lbs of fish to ship home- and lots of great memories thanks to Brian and Lacey! Tips: There is a men's bathroom and a women's bathroom. They are similar to airplane bathrooms. I got sea sick. I ended up sitting or standing outside instead of sitting in the cabin. Looking at the horizon helped. I'm pregnant so I didn't take Dramamine, but I did wear Psi bracelets and they did not help. I eventually felt better halfway through the day and I was able to drink a lot of water and eat something... Throw up in the ocean, not the bathroom or garbage can. We were on the boat from 5:30 am until about 4 pm. Bring light food and lots of water. It was cloudy out and I ended up with some sunburn. Bring a hat and sunglasses and sunscreen. I wore three layers and rain boots and I was comfortable. You can ship your fillets back to your house. I cannot remember the name of the place that did that, but just ask Brian. It's right up the street from his pier. Tip your deckhand! I asked the captain about this, and he said many people tip the deckhand $10-$20 per person. This person works very hard the entire day! Go fishing with Captain Brian and the Sea Angel! They are worth every penny. read more

Just got home from taking my 21 year old son out on the Tornado charter boat Captained by Dwight Sawin. It was an absolutely incredible day! Last minute idea, I called Westport Charters yesterday and asked about the charters. We decided that we wanted to do both Rockfish and Salmon for $200. Salmon alone would have been $135. We've fished Alaska several times and this price is a BARGAIN compared to Alaska charter rates! The receptionist at Westport Charters was extremely helpful and patient as I got the info and then had to call her back 3 times while my son decided what he wanted to do. She said they had room on a boat for us and to be there at 5:00am to check in since the combo trip leaves earlier than the Salmon alone trips. When we got there both ladies at the counter were friendly and helpful in getting us checked in and setting us up with our 1 day fishing license for $10 each. She told me we were assigned to the Tornado boat. I knew nothing about the boat or crew and wasn't sure what I was walking into. I was born and raised boating so I can be critical if things aren't done right. I've gotta say - from beginning to end, Dwight and his crew (his brothers) didn't miss a beat! Even my 21 year old son commented several times about how all you had to do was raise your pole, say "fish on", look at your bait or anything else that might require crew assistance and they were on it before you knew it. Quite a few times our bait would be taken by a fish or look pretty beat up after extended fishing and we would reel in and look at our lines and they were behind us with new bait ready to replace it. Every interaction was a smile and a "you're welcome". These guys HUSTLED all day. Every chance they had, they kept the boat washed down and clean. It's an immaculate boat in excellent shape. We fished for rock fish first and as soon as we put the poles in the water, the boat came alive with shouts of "fish on!". It seemed impossible to keep up with bringing the fish in and getting the poles re-baited quickly but these guys did it consistently without any of us ever having to touch the bait or our caught fish. After we hit the limit on rockfish by about 9am(?), we headed out for salmon. Dwight consistently worked to put us in hot areas for salmon. We'd have several people bring in fish and then it would go dry. Pretty soon, he'd move us to another spot and we'd fish it for awhile. I ended up catching 5 and my son caught 7. Some had to be thrown back (wild silvers) and our smaller ones were given to others who weren't as lucky as us. By about 2pm, they said it was time to head home. On the way back, Dwight found a spot that he thought would be good. He said we would have 15 more minutes for fishing. I caught 1 more and my son caught 2 more. Several others added to their catch pile. On the way back to the pier, Dwights brothers (the deckhands) processed the fish - the rockfish were all filleted and the salmon were gutted. As we left the boat, each person (16 of us) were given our 2 limit Salmons and 2 large plastic bags filled with filleted rockfish along with a handshake and a "Thank You!" from each crew member. In short....would I go through Westport Charters again? Absolutely!! Would I use the boat and crew of the Tornado? Without question they will be my first preference anytime I go to Westport!! Brian was awesome getting us on the fish and took the time to talk everyone and make sure they were having a good time. Stopped and pointed out some whales for everyone, really went out of his way. His deckhand Lacey was on it like batman coming out of nowhere to rebait and untangle lines. Went out on a trip on boat Swifty with captain Chris. Great boat and crew, they worked extra hard to make sure we got on the fish. Caught my limit plus bonus ling cod. Chris is a very good captain that knows how to fish the area. His crew was very friendly and hard working which made my trip very enjoyable. I only had one complaint that isn't the charter or captains fault, but we did have a red headed women on the boat who claimed to now the captain and decided share her opinions about everything, and tell everyone how to fish and such on the boat. This became a complete annoying distraction however I told myself not to let it ruin my trip. Some people should mind their own business and respect others who just might have more experience.
